Poor to Average Overall

Venture439815 (Fall River, Canada) on Feb 24, 2024

I preface with having a lot of all inclusive experiences, in Mexico, Dominican Republic, Cuba, Jamaica, Turks and Caicos, Costa Rica, etc. So I am well versed and do NOT consider myself a picky traveller BUT I do know what I like. I would say positives are the resort is beautiful clean and well laid out, the rooms are also lovely very spacious, clean and well designed. We had a Preferred Club Terrace Suite and the deck was a great size, really nice. Food, there were some decent choices but overall the food really lacked for us. The quality is lacking , then choice got tired by day 5 and it was overall a poor food experience for us. What we did like were the burgers, the pizza , the nacho truck and the crepes and the tacos. We also enjoyed the ala cart breakfast at BLoved. We never had a decent meal for dinner, and tried most of the restaurants and the buffet one night. We found the overall quality of the meats to be poor and just the overall food in general poor. The buffet is terrible, lacking in choice and quality, no make your own pasta station, no grilling station offering varied protein, no theme nights, just really, really basic and bare minimum for a buffet , really disappointing. Not typically for our experience in Mexico. The beach, lovely but lacking in shade and towel service and bathrooms (only one we found shared male/female), no food service and limited, really limited drink service. They simply do not have enough staff working the beach, either at the bars or on the beach. We also found the chairs way too close together. We were extremely disappointed one day to come back to our chairs after being at the beach bar, to find all of our stuff moved, chairs/bags everything to make room for a wedding. They basically took up 1/4 of one of the best spots on the beach for a wedding, displacing approx. 60 other paying resort guest and taking a good portion of the best shaded spots. Not only should no one ever be touching your bags but moving that many guests at 2pm in the afternoon to me is inexcusable. I paid just as much for the beach access as anyone in the wedding. Pools are as everyone says cold, you can get in but unless it's really warm out, they are uncomfortably cold. We also found the atmosphere around the main party pool to border on raunchy , at least the week we were there, with lots of twerking and such for pool games. To each their own but we found this odd for a family resort. Towels also are only available at one spot and a lot of afternoons they were all gone. Service was so hit or miss , we had some amazing service and some TERRIBLE service. We had amazing service from our weight staff at the Mexican at dinner and also most lunch times at the burger place. The service at the coffee shop was the worst, one morning I was there 5 mins before it opened, the doors were open and I was told to come back, it was very slow there and often there was a line up out the door. No to go coffee cups. There was just a general feeling of not caring, and tipping didn't change the level of service you received, we are tippers. We spent most afternoons around the pool and were never once offered drink service, never one time in a week. The beach service is poor again definitely not enough staff , the bars are overwhelmed, long lines and wait times, just not typical. Water ,water, water, not enough access to drinking water. The beach has a water stand, it was often empty or warm, and didn't open till the bar did at like 10AM, which is way to late, also other then the bar (always lines) or restaurants (always a wait for just water...who wants that) there are just no other places to get water. They don't have bottled water which is ok , but they need way more drinking water stations, WAY MORE. Bring a re usable cup. Overall in my 6-7 times in Mexico I would rate this as the worst overall service and food experience. I think for what we paid we could have gotten better results elsewhere.

Terrible vacation

Maria B on Feb 22, 2024

This was definetly not a 5 star hotel! Where do I even begin with this hotel...the staff was incredibly rude and unhelpful. We could not get reservation at any of the a la carte restaurants. We continously tried with no avail. We resorted to eating at the buffet every day. The food at its best was mediocre. The pool was ice cold, making it impossible to relax and enjoy a swim. The nightly shows were incredibly boring and lackluster, providing little entertainment for guests. Plenty of seaweed and poop..yes poop in the ocean and on the shore! To make matters worse, our room was not cleaned until late in the afternoon, despite us leaving early in the morning. And to top it all off, the air conditioning was turned off every time we left the room, leaving us to return to a hot and stuffy environment. Overall, I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. The staff and service were terrible, and we had a miserable experience during our stay. Save yourself the hassle and look elsewhere for accommodations at a true 5 star hotel.

Overall, an excellent resort!

celc0n (Saskatoon, Canada) on Feb 20, 2024

All staff were wonderful, welcoming, helpful & always smiling!! The size & layout was perfect with easy access to everything. Rooms were clean & comfortable. We have no complaints about the upkeep in any part of the resort. Lots of great dining options during the day. However after 5 pm there is only the buffet & a la cartes which were difficult to find reservation spots. Buffet was very good & very typical of any resort we have been to. Alcohol was not served until 11pm, not a terrible thing, but a ‘doctored’ coffee prior to that would have been nice! Unexpected was shops do not accept direct payment, even for a bag of potato chips. Purchases must be charged to your room. There are ATM’s but no currency exchange or ability to break down larger bills. However bartenders and servers did their best to help out with this when they could. Nightly entertainment was excellent! Lots of young families and appeared to be very accommodating for them, activities, play area, pool etc. we didn’t have children with us but from conversations & observing we thought it would be a great family vacation choice.

Our visit to the Grand Costa Mujeres

halley2024 (Calgary, Canada) on Feb 19, 2024

We were very impressed with the staff, surroundings, ENTERTAINMENT and the food! No complaints anywhere. We took a survey of what everyone liked 5hevbest. One of our grandsons said “Everything!”. I think that says it all for each of us. Sincere appreciation for a wonderful week!
