Fantastic Holiday with the Family

Lindsay K (Toronto, Canada) on May 30, 2026

We are a family of 5 that has just returned from a wonderful 9 night stay at the Catalonia Grand Costa Mujeres. This is our second time at this resort and it did not disappoint. We travelled with our 3 children ages 16, 14 and 12. The hotel was beautiful, well-maintained and clean. Our hotel room was spacious with room with ample room to unpack and the cleaning staff did a great job and would clean in the late morning and then come back in the evening to trade towels and restock the minibar. No complaints with the restaurants and food. There was always plenty to chose from and we had no problems making reservations online. We loved the creperie and hamburger stand and it was nice not to have to get dressed for lunch if you didn't want to. We enjoyed Aromes cafe and the cappuccinos. The entertainment staff were amazing and did a great job getting everyone involved. Special thanks to Belem, Lucero, David, Alan and Fabrizio for always including the kids. They especially loved the beach volleyball. Staff were always friendly and Linda at the beach bar and Mauro at the pool bar went out of their way. Thanks for another great holiday.

Great beach! Lovely resort!

LitleDi (Ontario, Canada) on May 29, 2026

This was my first time at this resort. I was there alone. It was a "get a break from Winter" trip. I booked my airport transfer through Expedia for a decent price and it went well. The location is quite far for many tourist attractions but was not an issue for me as I've been to the area many times and have done what I wanted to do. Check in was quick and easy. I loved my room! I had a superior ocean view room (privilege). Enjoyed how spacious it was with the separate bedroom and sitting area. Everything was very clean and modern. Fridge and snacks were replenished every day. Beach towels are provided and towel exchange available. Bring your beach bag! I used room service once, the buffet and restaurants. All were lovely. You can reserve for your whole stay through their app. The food was decent. My fav was the Italian. Many outdoor choices as well. I really liked the availability of food and snacks during the day that you could access without having to go to a restaurant. There's a food truck, and a cafeteria style area that offers many choices. Pool and beach drink service was efficient and steady. Many washrooms available in different areas. The assorted shops were nice and offered day to day items as well as souvenirs at a fair price. The beach is actually much nicer than other areas I've been to along that coast. The water was clean and had just the right amount of waves. The coastline offered options for nice long walks. The hotel grounds are really nice and well kept. The two pool areas are really big with lots of loungers. The pools have different depths and areas to accommodate all ages. One pool offers music etc while the other is a bit quieter. There seemed to be many activities and options for kids. Even a teens club. I didn't go to many shows as I crash early, but what I did see what decent. The theatre is quite nice. The staff were all super friendly and pleasant. I did go to the spa. It was ok. Not exceptional but relaxing. The privilege beach is not really monitored and I found that many non privilege ppl were using it. Overall I found this resort to be a very good value for the money. I would recommend it without hesitation. The cost was way less than my usual chain. The only thing I missed was an adult only section, but for the difference in cost I could live with it. Special mention and thank yous to Carolina, Jony, and Cinthia. Super great service! I hope to see you all again soon!

Beware of the Bait-and-Switch Room Downgrade

massemibrahim on May 28, 2026

Overall, a very bad experience and what feels like a big scam by the hotel staff. I would not recommend this hotel (or any Catalonia hotel) to anyone visiting Mexico. Staff & Service With the exception of the Mamma Mia/buffet restaurant and Kids Club staff, the staff were neither helpful nor knowledgeable. The reception staff—Ali in particular—were dismissive, unhelpful, and completely failed to follow up on anything we discussed with them. The Bait-and-Switch Room Downgrade We originally booked a "Privileged Grand Family Suite & Swim Up" directly through the hotel website to take advantage of a lower rate and a 15% discount. Upon arrival, Ali told us our room was unavailable because the AC was broken. He downgraded us to a standard "Privileged Suite & Swim Up" which the hotel's own website shows the family suite costs nearly twice as much. This downgrade effectively wiped out all the perks and discounts we secured by booking directly through the hotel's website. Lack of Accountability We asked Ali to contact us as soon as the Family Suite became available, but he never did. Worse, we later discovered that there were already other guests staying in the original room he claimed had a faulty AC. When we confronted him, Ali refused to give us an updated receipt showing the new room type and a per-night cost breakdown. He just kept repeating that there was nothing he could do and told us to contact reservations, which he claimed was closed at the time.
