Beautiful, chill, comfortable resort

CosmosDingy (Ottawa, Canada) on Jan 08, 2026

Absolutely wonderful resort. Nice chill and calm vibe, lots of good food options (favorites so far are the buffet, Mexican)and good service throughout. Everyone seems very friendly and willing to help. There is a quieter pool and more party pool. You can see very small wear and tear but normal for resorts and this is well maintained in general. The room is magnificent - large and well appointed with bar fridge (beer, soft drinks and water), chips and cookies, walk in closet, large balcony, very comfy bed and amazing water fall shower. Very happy with our choice!

Premium Prices, Budget Experience

We just completed our stay at Catalonia Grand Costa Mujeres, and it was a complete disappointment. The resort does not have nearly enough beach chairs, despite having ample space to add them. Every morning turns into a chaotic and embarrassing free-for-all, with chairs “reserved” for hours by towels while no one is actually using them. Staff refuse to enforce any rules, leaving paying guests effectively shut out of beach access altogether. On the final day of our stay, the resort arbitrarily redefined the Preferred beach area by placing a random sign with no warning or communication. We had used the same section all week without a single issue, only to be told—suddenly and without explanation—that the rules had changed and that if we did not immediately move, we would be charged $250 USD by a manager named Emilio. Changing policies on a whim and enforcing them selectively through financial threats is unacceptable, especially at a resort charging luxury prices. The situation escalated due to the conduct of this same manager, Emilio, whose behavior was rude, aggressive, and intimidating. He stood over our beach chairs demanding that we leave, spoke in a hostile and confrontational manner, and even directed this behavior toward a minor. This conduct was completely inappropriate and has no place in any hospitality environment, let alone a resort that claims to offer a luxury experience. This was not a luxury experience by any definition. The resort is disorganized, poorly managed, and openly confrontational when guests raise legitimate concerns. The value does not come close to justifying the price, and we strongly caution others—especially families—to stay elsewhere.

9.9 out of 10

Let's start with the location. For our family this couldn't have been any better We been to Mexico and especially the Mayan area many times and this was one of our best experiences. Being only 45 minutes to the airport after a long day of travel its nice to get to your final destination. Located north of Cancun proper it's not as much of a party scene which suits us well but yet it's only a 30 minute Uber ride in if you want to go shopping or play in the city. Now the resort, this is definitely 9.9 out of 10. The food was probably the best we have ever had at an all-inclusive. My wife is a vegetarian and my son and we eat anything and we weren't disappointed not once. Booking the restaurants can be challenging but we recommend that you do it on the first day and we managed to try most of the spots. The staff, wow what an amazing group of people. So full disclosure we had a small private wedding ceremony on the beach so shout out to Michelle the wedding planner. Michelle was very helpful and responsive, she went above and beyond. We had the resort photographer Dio take pictures for us and not only did he do an amazing job he probably cried as much as we did. Thanks Dio for making it special. We split our time 50/50 between to the beach and the pool and we chose the quieter pool but both are wonderful. The only complaint is that there is a lack of, well actually no sun umbrellas or palapas on the beach so it's first one first serve for the shaddy spots under the Palm trees which are swopped up early. Oh before I forget if you have the great pleasure for having Linda serve you drinks on the beach you have won the lottery. I have never seen anyone work harder to make our stay the best it could be. Thank you all from my family and we will see you again.
