Used to be better

Racondome (South Houston, Texas) on Sep 01, 2024

I used to love this place so much! But after Covid I think the quality has gone down, the food is not that good anymore. There is no beach because the hurricane are up the whole beach so I was very disappointed in my last trip. I have to say though the rooms are beautiful and the staff I really amazing, quiet nice resort

Boutique style with very good service and location!

SoniHolidays (London, United Kingdom) on Aug 27, 2024

The Oleo Playa all-inclusive hotel is a boutique is located along the hotel zone and the reason we chose this is that we didn't want to be in a massive hotel with hoardes of tourists. It is a short bus ride to the La Isla shopping centre as well. Our ocean view family room was very specaios, the bathroom however was a little tight on space. Bedding is very good and there was plenty of storage space. The Spa is lovely and my massage therapist was very timely and professional, due to Inspira, I received a 20% discount on my therapy and 2hr use of the steam/sauna/jacuzzi. Inspira also upgrades guests to enjoy free in-room service, a bottle of bubbly, turn-down service and food on the go (packed for tours). The service is excellent and food options include a Buffet restuarant and a Japanese and Mediterranean sit down a la carte, plus a pool bar and resturant for faster foods and a coffee shop. The food overall was very good with a good choice for breakfast and some authentice Mexican choices such as Nachos, Tacos and Chilly. The Concierge/Tours Desk were helpful but always choose your tours carefully not to be pushed into something you don't want to do. We had to skip Xcaret as it was just too long a day but instead booked the Circque du Soleil performace of JOYA and the transport was arranged by Vidanta where the performance takes place. I have had to take one star off overall, as mentioned in a previous review, the facilites need upgrade - rooms, bathrooms, lifts, common areas, they are all a little tired. Overall, we would highly recommend Oleo all inclusive simply because the staff are very responsive and provide excellent service, the location is great and food is good!

Fantastic Hotel & Better Staff

Andrew S on Aug 26, 2024

We had an incredible time at this hotel. Let me start with the room—we booked a Sunset Junior Suite. Upon arrival, we were escorted to our room and given a detailed overview of the hotel's amenities, including its bars, restaurants, and the suggestion to download the hotel app. Waiting for us in the room was a lovely welcome: an ice bucket with a bottle of champagne, two glasses, and a thoughtful note. The room itself was spacious, spotlessly clean, and well-appointed, with a fridge stocked daily with beer, water, and soft drinks. The hotel offers three main restaurants, a coffee shop, and a poolside snack bar, all of which are included in the all-inclusive package. The buffet restaurant has a good variety of dishes that change nightly, though I would recommend avoiding Mexican night due to the loud band playing in the restaurant, which also obstructs access to the buffet. Our favorite was the Asian restaurant, where the sushi was exceptional. The Mediterranean restaurant also impressed us with its selection of fish and pasta dishes, with the pizzas being a standout. The pool snack bar serves delicious food as well, often featuring a BBQ with exceptional burgers. The coffee shop is perfect for grabbing fresh coffee, cakes, and sandwiches—all included in the all-inclusive package. You can’t beat a coffee and cake break! There are two bars, one by the pool and the other near the reception. What truly sets the experience apart is the quality of service. We were fortunate to be served by an excellent rotation of bartenders, including Alejandro, Jerry, Ruben, and Alberto, who took great care of us. One evening, we even had the chance to try some of Alejandro’s new cocktails, which he was designing for an upcoming menu. They were as delicious as they were beautiful—I’ve included a picture of two of them in my review. A tip for future visitors: bring cash, as the onsite ATM only dispenses dollars and charges $8 per withdrawal. Next to the main bar, there's a spot where you can book excursions. The more you book, the bigger the discount. We booked two trips through the hotel, and both were fantastic, with seamless ticketing and pick-ups. Throughout our stay, we noticed the maintenance team diligently working on minor repairs and painting. Before our trip, I had read some negative reviews mentioning that the hotel seemed a bit tired and in need of renovation. However, I found the property to be well-maintained, with only a few areas needing a touch of paint. It’s clear the hotel is actively working on these improvements. If a few scuffs of paint in outdoor areas would ruin your holiday, you might want to reconsider your priorities. For us, it’s all about the great food and service, and this hotel delivered both to an exceptionally high standard. The evening entertainment at the hotel could use some improvement. Attendance was often sparse, and on some nights, we found ourselves being the only two people in the bar watching the performances. The highlight of the entertainment was the rock night, where the female singer was truly exceptional. However, the piano night was disappointing, as the entire performance was in Spanish with no effort to engage an English-speaking audience. The lack of interaction and overall quality led to several of us leaving before the act was even finished. With a few simple adjustments to the nighttime entertainment, the hotel could significantly enhance the overall experience, as the potential is definitely there

Lovely holiday

NicJ72 (Stockport, United Kingdom) on Aug 22, 2024

We spent 10 nights here at Oleo as a family of 4 (2 teens 16 &19). We had 2 rooms both at the front of the hotel. The rooms were light, bright and very clean. However they were very noisy due to the traffic outside at nighttime. There seem to be lots of people racing cars and motorbikes at all hours which did impact sleep! The pools are quite small but adequate. Shade is hard to find even with parasols. Out of 10 nights there were only 3 days we could enter the sea by the hotel due to the hurricane taking away the sand and leaving exposed rocks. The pool area is cleaned every night and is spotless. The staff around the pool taking drink and food orders are lovely. We had most meals in the buffet restaurant and there is plenty to choose from. We visited the Mediterranean restaurant twice and the food was very tasty however on our second visit I had the lasagne and it was cold in the middle, staff took it away but the next lot was also cold in the middle which was a shame because the food was really delicious. We went to the Asian restaurant twice and the food there is exquisite. Attention to detail in the presentation was something else. My fussy son was able to take a pizza from the brown bag cafe in there to eat. The staff were lovely and very polite. My teens and husband made use of the Brown Bag cafe ordering coffees and frappes on a daily basis more than once a day. The girl in there knew the orders before they even spoke! We really enjoyed our stay but felt that it was more of a party hotel around the pool. We couldn’t fault the food or the staff who were all polite, kind and chatty. The entertainment was a bit of a let down as it was just different singers each night.
