Good affordable hotel particularly for the business traveller
Dec 02, 2022
I have stayed in this hotel many times for business when it was the comfort suites but this was my first stay since the change of ownership. The refurbishment is very nice the pool area, bar restaurant and reception area are all much improved. It was good to see new equipment in the small gym too that used several times. My one bedroom suite was comfortable and well equipped, had kitchenette and iron/board and whilst I was initially worried that my ground floor room would be noisy , it wasn’t at all. Breakfast is very good and the breakfast time staff in particular were very friendly and helpful. The pool restaurants menu is a bit limited and the service when I was there was very slow and it wasn’t that busy although in terms of location there are plenty of other restaurants in walking distance. Overall I would say the hotel is good for the price (no option for this on rating) particularly when you consider the astronomical cost of other hotels on seven mile beach.
The staff on the whole are very friendly, welcoming, polite and helpful, it was nice to see some of the old faces from my last visit too who remembered me which was nice. I however must comment on the attitude and behaviour of, who I gather is the front of house manager. I was told his name was Elia not sure of the spelling. . He certainly needs to take a leaf out of his staffs book in terms of customer service. He was abrupt, impolite and surely to the point of rudeness , not just with me but having been rather taken back by his attitude and response to a simple query on my part I noted that he was like this with other guests and it’s interesting to see that other reviews clearly mention him. He definitely needs some training , a smile ?? would be a start and he needs to remember that we guests are not a inconvenience but the reason he has a job, we pay his salary!
In terms of some of the other comments I have seen I would agree and would add the following points that could improve the service and facilities.
1. I found out by accident from another guest that there is a complimentary shuttle to further down seven mile beach where there is a larger beach area. I was shocked how little beach there now is outside the hotel since my last visit. Reception should tell all guests about this service on arrival.
2. A simple sign by what beach chairs are down on the beach stating for the use of Hampton by Hilton Guests only would perhaps help with Hilton hotel guests using them. Although when I did have to ask some Hilton guests to move they did.
3. The music round the pool area during the day is far to loud!!! It should be background music not be so loud that you cannot hear yourself think, I couldn’t sit by the pool. I asked for it to be turned down on several occasions but the staff just turned it back up again.
4. Whilst I appreciate that the priority is to service rooms for new guests arriving it would be nice if the order of room cleaning was rotated. My room was never serviced before 4 pm and on one occasion it was nearly 5pm, in the afternoon which was inconvenient because this was the time I typically was returning to the hotel from work commitments and so if I wanted it serviced I had to wait elsewhere.

After checking out of the hotel I noticed that I left my guess pouch containing my colognes, medication electric shaver and some other items in the room. I reported the matter to the hotel but I was informed that the staff that cleaned the room stated that nothing was found in the room. I made several calls and my items were never returned

We stayed here 11/17-11/24. The hotel and grounds are well maintained, clean, and nicely decorated. We had a double queen room which was quite large & had a dining table for four and mini kitchen. One downside of the room is the very small bathroom, if you had kids here the bathroom situation would be hard. The shower only has a glass panel covering half of the opening where a door or curtain should be and it’s nearly impossible to not get water all over the floor. The pool area was nice and not very crowded while we were there, they play music pretty loud all day though. The “beach” consists of 6 chairs for this hotel. Most of the beaches on this end of seven mile have gotten very small over the past few years. If you were there by 9 am a couple chairs would be open. Sometimes people from the Marriot next door were in them since that hotel has zero beach, no one monitors it so that was annoying. Overall we had a nice vacation but I wouldn’t return to this hotel. If you’re looking for more beach area to lay on & swim look for a place to stay past Governors beach, it’s a bit nicer down there.

-Upon check-in, we were disappointed to read the face of one of the front desk clerks when she realized that we were a same sex couple in a shared room with only one bed. We had been warned that some in the Cayman Islands are not accepting of same-sex “lifestyle” (ugh, what a stupid term), but hadn’t expected that we’d experience the “uncomfortable vibe” from the outset.
-The effectiveness and engagement of the staff varied notably from person to person. The tall fellow at the front desk in the evenings? Disinterested and unhelpful. The young woman from Kenya working breakfast? Charming and welcoming. The older woman folding towels by the pool? Helpful and genuinely warm. The young lady at the front desk using her phone while a guest was waiting to be helped (or at least acknowledged)? In need of retraining.
-Concerning a different topic: the uncleanliness of the shower. We asked at least three times to have someone give the shower floor a good cleaning. Either (1) some did make an attempt but didn’t do a good job or (2) our requests went unfulfilled. Either way, we eventually purchased some household cleaning solution at the nearby gas station mini-mart and cleaned the shower ourselves… on vacation.
-I would add that whoever laid out the room needs to explain a few weirdnesses, such as the four prints hanging as a group on the living area wall above the couch, but all bunched up on one side. And as a hotel ostensibly on a beach (it was tiny) and with a pool area (which we enjoyed, despite the uncleaned-up chicken feces), the room has no place to reasonably accommodate wet clothing. In all, the room designs merit a re-think. We’re I grading them, I’d give my students s “C”, with an opportunity to revise and resubmit.

This hotel was so light and bright, cute and beachy. I stayed at this property when it was a different hotel brand years back and wow, what an improvement. It’s a beautiful hotel with a lot of character with the decor! The staff was friendly. A nice free breakfast with lots of fresh options. The workout room is nice with most things that you would need. A nice pool area and a short walk to the beach… unfortunately through out recent years of hurricanes and storms , there is a lot of erosion where the beach area is much smaller than it used to be and only a few chairs to use. But still usable. The hotel does offer a free shuttle to two different public beach areas just 5min down the road which was great. The location is great because it’s in a walkable distance to a bunch of different restaurants as well as being only a 15min walk or take the free shuttle to Camana Bay which is one of my favorite areas on the island with lots of shops and great restaurants. Overall I really enjoyed my stay at the Hampton Inn. I will stay there again.
