Good affordable hotel particularly for the business traveller

I have stayed in this hotel many times for business when it was the comfort suites but this was my first stay since the change of ownership. The refurbishment is very nice the pool area, bar restaurant and reception area are all much improved. It was good to see new equipment in the small gym too that used several times. My one bedroom suite was comfortable and well equipped, had kitchenette and iron/board and whilst I was initially worried that my ground floor room would be noisy , it wasn’t at all. Breakfast is very good and the breakfast time staff in particular were very friendly and helpful. The pool restaurants menu is a bit limited and the service when I was there was very slow and it wasn’t that busy although in terms of location there are plenty of other restaurants in walking distance. Overall I would say the hotel is good for the price (no option for this on rating) particularly when you consider the astronomical cost of other hotels on seven mile beach. The staff on the whole are very friendly, welcoming, polite and helpful, it was nice to see some of the old faces from my last visit too who remembered me which was nice. I however must comment on the attitude and behaviour of, who I gather is the front of house manager. I was told his name was Elia not sure of the spelling. . He certainly needs to take a leaf out of his staffs book in terms of customer service. He was abrupt, impolite and surely to the point of rudeness , not just with me but having been rather taken back by his attitude and response to a simple query on my part I noted that he was like this with other guests and it’s interesting to see that other reviews clearly mention him. He definitely needs some training , a smile ?? would be a start and he needs to remember that we guests are not a inconvenience but the reason he has a job, we pay his salary! In terms of some of the other comments I have seen I would agree and would add the following points that could improve the service and facilities. 1. I found out by accident from another guest that there is a complimentary shuttle to further down seven mile beach where there is a larger beach area. I was shocked how little beach there now is outside the hotel since my last visit. Reception should tell all guests about this service on arrival. 2. A simple sign by what beach chairs are down on the beach stating for the use of Hampton by Hilton Guests only would perhaps help with Hilton hotel guests using them. Although when I did have to ask some Hilton guests to move they did. 3. The music round the pool area during the day is far to loud!!! It should be background music not be so loud that you cannot hear yourself think, I couldn’t sit by the pool. I asked for it to be turned down on several occasions but the staff just turned it back up again. 4. Whilst I appreciate that the priority is to service rooms for new guests arriving it would be nice if the order of room cleaning was rotated. My room was never serviced before 4 pm and on one occasion it was nearly 5pm, in the afternoon which was inconvenient because this was the time I typically was returning to the hotel from work commitments and so if I wanted it serviced I had to wait elsewhere.

After checking out of the hotel I noticed that I left my guess pouch containing my colognes, medication electric shaver and some other items in the room. I reported the matter to the hotel but I was informed that the staff that cleaned the room stated that nothing was found in the room. I made several calls and my items were never returned
