Summer Vacation

cassiesboss (salinas, california) on Jul 03, 2022

Pros: great service, great location, quick beach access, good free parking, kitchen comes with everything (plates, utensils, glasses, cups). Cons: hard bed, thin pillows, screen covering large patio window not dark enough let’s light in at 530am, not a lot of amenities, maid service every 4 days. Enjoyed our time here but the uncomfortable bed and pillows coupled with the bright light coming in the room very early put a damper on our stay. Would give our stay at this hotel a 7 out of 10. Bed and lightly shaded window was a tough one.

June in Maui

We found this property to be a great value, central location, clean facilities, and friendly, helpful staff. Parking on site is free and close. Hot tub and pool were clean. Grills worked great and were very clean. I would gladly return again and recommend it.

Family vacation

cpgee4 (Hemet, California) on Jun 21, 2022

Disappointed we did not get the room we reserved. Instead our family was split up into two different rooms. Very difficult to manage with a child with special needs when we were split up. We didn’t understand because we had made reservations months in advance.

Sadly won't be back

wanda h (Bellevue, Washington) on Jun 16, 2022

This was our fourth trip to the Mahana and sadly will be our final time. We first stayed here in 2005 and loved that all the condos are directly on the ocean. Unfortunately, the units have not been updated and the property has declined. Furnishings have seen a lot of wear and tear without being replaced, towels and linens are threadbare. When we arrived we were on the 2nd floor and other guests could look right into our unit while sunbathing on the grounds below. We were told that we were in a premium unit. Honestly I could not find anything premium about the condo. They did honor our request and we moved to the 7th floor after the 2nd day. This room was even more outdated but at least we had privacy while on the lanai etc. On the plus side, the staff are very nice and the view is beautiful.

Family friendly with amazing oceanfront view

sharka_boy (California) on Jun 11, 2022

I last stayed at this property about 10 years back and the reason I booked again was because of the memory of having the most amazing oceanfront view of Lanai and Molokai, along with the daily sunsets from the privacy of your own lanai. I was also looking for a 2-bedroom, 2-bath condo which Aston Mahana offers. My family had a really great stay this time around. The 2-bedroom condo was very spacious, with a sofa bed in the living room. As I understand it, most, if not all the 2-bedroom condos are corner units in both the Lanai and Molokai towers and the view doesn't disappoint. The lanai runs the length from the master bedroom wall to the living room wall, with 2 lounge chairs and a round table with 4 chairs to eat. The master bedroom is large with a sink outside of the bathroom, a sink in the bathroom, along with a fairly good size walk in shower (no tubs in the condo). There's a small standing washer/dryer set in a closet that came in handy as we did laundry about 4 times during our stay. The kitchen was fairly small, but had a full fridge/freezer, dishwasher, stove, and microwave. Silverware was provided, but the spatulas, ladles and cooking tools were really worn out and are in dire need of replacing. Dishwasher detergent, Tide detergent, paper towels, kleenex, toilet paper, dishwasher liquid, soap, shampoo, lotion, conditioner, and garbage liners are all provided. (Believe this is part of the resort fees.) Note there is currently no daily housekeeping services, but you can request more items if needed. There is a safe in the master bedroom, but you need to request the key when you check-in, it's not a digital safe. As part of the resort fees, you get a DVD rental card that you can use at a small kiosk in the lobby area. They do have some recent and older movies, and a PlayStation 4 in each unit I believe. You need to use the PS4 to watch the movies, not the DVD players that may be under your living room tv. A few small nits about our unit: the living room blinds controller didn't work so we weren't able to lower the blinds, but we decided to leave them as was since all units face the ocean. The cushions on all the chairs and the sofa were so worn out and kept slipping out whenever we sat on them. They seriously need to be replaced. The smaller bedroom had a musty smell unfortunately even with the AC cranked up and the ceiling fan on, but it was a minor inconvenience. Mahana doesn't offer a lot of frills, it has a small swimming pool, but I think you can go over to the hotel next door and use their facilities (gym, bigger swimming pool). We didn't utilize this as we were on an island and hit the beach everyday. This condo is pretty well hidden and is great if you want some privacy and quiet (minus the construction going on). There's also a nice food truck park on the main street (5-min walk), along with a few more restaurants and a supermarket across the street. Price-wise, obviously summer travel is going to cost a pretty penny esp for the 2-bedroom and might be too expensive for some. If you can splurge one time, I think it's worth it for a condo with an oceanfront view. There is no real beach area for this condo as the waves when strong can hit up against the sea wall. You can walk down the stairs to the "beach" and hang a left and start walking towards Black Rock. You don't have to walk too far to get to some calmer waves and more open beach areas and try some swimming, probably not snorkeling. There are a ton of hotels/condos down this stretch of beach and you'll always see dozens of people lined up to watch the sunset every night. One word of caution when booking this property. Yes, it is advertised as oceanfront views, and for the most part this is true. However, be warned that depending on the type of room you book, you could end up with a room on the 1st floor, which means, you really don't have an oceanfront view, there are hedges lining the property on the grassy area and a string of lounge chairs that people can lay out on (in front of your lanai). Also, I've heard from others when we were there, that they got rooms mid-floor, but their view was of some palm trees that blocked their ocean view and sunset. I don't know how many units are affected by these palm trees, but they are pretty tall and would have put a damper on our vacation had I had one of these views. Like with all hotels, you get whatever is available, unless you are able to request a specific unit or floor (which I don't believe you can). Despite these few items, we really did enjoy our stay and to be honest, the view from our unit was the most amazing experience of the trip, being able to sit and eat breakfast, lunch and dinner on the lanai and watch the sunset and the ocean in front of you was worth it. Obviously a higher floor helps. I would look at booking this property again in the future.
