65 year old female solo

I attended The Gift Market at the nearby convention center. I was traveling solo. First time staying at The Nugget and I would definitely recommend this hotel. I stayed at the Rush Tower and was given a complimentary upgrade to a corner suite. Being how maid service is by request only I didn’t feel a need for it. On day 4 of my 5 day stay security knocked on the door for a “wellness check” simply to see that I was ok after 4 days. Super nice personal touch. The Rush Tower is no smoking. The room was spotless with everything I needed. I ate at 3 restaurants on the property. All meals were delicious. We always eat at The Grotto regardless of where we are staying. I loved my stay at The Nugget and will absolutely stay there again.

GREAT Stay!!!!l

GREAT Surprise!!! I usually stay on the strip but the rooms this trip were stupid expensive. Since we were attending the Furniture Market near downtown Vegas we thought we would try the GN!!! The prices were reasonable and the reviews were positive. We stayed in the Carson Tower and we were very happy. The hotel is definitely older and can use some updates but it was very clean. Our room had a nice view of an old church and was pretty quiet except for the church bells. You could hear your neighbors flush the toilet but if you ran the constant fan on the AC It drowned out most of the noise. There were a lot of great places to eat in and around the hotel and most were reasonably priced. This stay has made me a fan of downtown Vegas and the Golden Nugget.

Post Pandemic Update

PDXFolks (Wilsonville, Oregon) on Jan 31, 2023

I've reviewed the Nugget more than once, as we've stayed about 30 times on business. I'd noticed some terrible reviews when Vegas opened back up and seems they've improved, so was anxious to check it out for myself! First off, the new process for housekeeping is awesome! Basically, if you'd like your room freshened up, you need to text the day prior. We stayed for 6 nights so I ordered cleaning only once. You're able to request towels, bottled water etc., which I did and both times, only waited about 15 minutes! I'm sure these changes are due to staffing shortage but it was nice not hearing constant door knocking, followed by "housekeeping" super loud, over and over at the crack of dawn! I did experience an incident (not my first at the Nugget) and in all fairness it could've occurred anywhere. I was awakened after my husband left for work by a knock at the door. I said "who is it" to which end the reply was "what do you mean who is it? Open the God da--ed door"! The peep hole revealed a very large man and he continued to pound on the door, screaming at me to open up. I called the Hotel Operator, who transferred me to Security and to their credit, they arrived 90 seconds later. Turns out it was a hotel guest who was intoxicated, angry about his gambling losses and confused. Seems some people can't handle Vegas without going off the rails! Not much has changed about the hotel itself, apart from the incredibly tacky restaurant which replaced the Grotto, which they moved to the back corner of the Carson Tower. And as I predicted, it impacted their business to the point of them only being open 3 nights a week. Such a shame. The Rush Tower restroom is still the main bathing spot for the homeless, who sleep in the slot machine chairs on the regular. While I'm by no means insensitive to those who are drug addicted with nowhere to call home, I'd rather see the city open a shelter downtown! Overall, the Nugget isn't bad but some improvement to the ventilation system would be nice! The new Circa smells much less of cigarette smoke. We had lovely dinner at Vic & Anthony's which we always enjoy. I also enjoyed the gym, apart from the fact that they closed the restroom.

Good and bad during this stay.

This was my first time staying downtown again since the pandemic, and while I had a good time, there were some concerns. We stayed in the Rush Tower. I specifically asked for a room away from Fremont. We stayed once in a corner suite near Fremont...never again. Rush Tower is nice. A bit dark...and starting to get a bit worn. But...room and bathroom is large. Hallways were quiet. I would definitely stay in a Rush Tower room again. Nugget has good food options... although we were disappointed in The Grotto being closed Mon-Wed. Having two Starbucks was very convenient...and the lines weren't awful like they can be in other casinos (looking at you Palazzo). Casino was surprisingly busy all day. Good slot options... although they seemed a bit tight during the stay. But....the great thing about being downtown is that if you aren't having luck, it's easy to move to another casino. Drink service was good at night...not so much during the day. The big issue we had on this trip were the homeless in the casino. Nugget seems to have more issues with this than other downtown casinos we visited. I counted 10 homeless slumped over slots during my walk to Starbucks one morning. Including one who was following me back to my elevator until I turned around and scared him off. At night there was a rowdy homeless bunch passing a bottle around. When I shared my concerns with security....let's just say there was disinterest in my concerns. I really hope Nugget figures this out because I like the rooms, food options and gambling. But I don't want to worry about my safety when I am on vacation.

Check in was at 4. When we got there at 5, we had to wait another 40 minutes for our room to be inspected. I'm not sure what they inspected because the tub, the shower, and the sink all had hair in the drains. That was a minor inconvenience. When returning from a day away, I tried to use the handicap button to open the doors, but it didn't work. So I struggled with the TWO front doors. When I finally got inside, 3 employees were standing at the podium chatting and laughing. I'm disgusted with this hotel and will definitely never stay here again.
