Staying in the metro LA area can be a stressful thing. Finding a location near everything, looking for a quality hotel, and looking for a great staff. The Garland has it all.
It's in the heart of Studio City, it's located in a quiet area off the freeway. It has a very retro charm to it, which is incredible. The moment you step into the lobby, you feel like you're at home near the fireplace while getting checked in by the most personable staff. Both Angel and Kiley were warm and inviting answering any questions that we may have had.
The room was clean and the decor was amazing. We had a view overlooking the pool, which was helpful in deciding when we would want to lay out in the sun.
Speaking of the pool, it was awesome. There was plenty of room between furniture and the walk up bar was just a few steps away. The waitstaff was AWESOME. They made sure to check on us anytime our drinks were getting low, had great suggestions for our next drink, and we had great conversations the entire tire we were speaking with them. Amanda, Bayron, Andy and Tabitha made us want to come back for drinks each night.
While having a drink make sure to have some food from the taco cart. It was so good!
Overall, this hotel is well worth staying at. The location is awesome, the staff is amazing, and the rooms are fantastic.

We've stayed at the Garland (or visited the restaurant) many times over the years, but were especially grateful for their service and attention to detail during covid. The management team, including Kylie and Daniel, were beyond thoughtful, helpful, and kind. I think it's very rare to find such personalized service at an affordable rate in a city like Los Angeles. The Garland feels like a little oasis tucked into a residential area of LA. It's close to Universal, but with easy access to the freeway, so it's very convenient to anywhere. And we just love Studio City for all of the great amenities, restaurants, etc but without all of the mid-city congestion and west side prices.
As far as the rooms, my kids and I rate the beds as a 10! The food at the restaurant is also exceptional, and I love the trendy outdoor and spacious patio, that does not have the LA crowds or attitudes. I'm trying to think of some constructive criticism to add, so this review doesn't sound skewed, but honestly, any small problems we might have had with our room were immediately addressed, so they were non-issues, really.
Basically, we just kept extending our stay.... And we expect to be back in the near future!
A Nice Hotel with History

We stayed at The Garland for 5 nights while visiting our son in LA. The hotel itself has a very nice feel and flow to it. It was originally built for Beverly Garland by her husband. A great story about the Hotel is on the Television. The Hotel looks recently remodeled and they kept the nostalgic feel to it, which I loved. The staff was very friendly, we did not originally like our room because it was on the second floor with the view of cars right out your balcony, The staff was very helpful in finding us a room with a better view. Spend a little more for a higher floor with a pool view. It is worth it.
The room was very nice and comfortable. My only issue was the doors that go out to the balcony, they pull out, instead of sliding, and then you have to push it hard to get it to close. It could be a challenge for an older couples.
We ate at the restaurant for breakfast everyday of our stay. The first day it was very good. Over the weekend it got crowded, it feels like it is the go to place for locals in LA. So we did have to wait for a table on the weekend and the food seemed to take a lot longer.
My new LA go to!

This place has it all. Retro feel with modern amenities and charming upgrades. Great pool, great restaurant, cute gift shop. Bikes to ride around the neighborhood and a trolly to take you to Universal City Walk. Convenient location, close enough to the 101 highway to get most anywhere quickly and just a short drive to the Burbank Airport. Comfortable bed and an incredibly hospitable staff too. This is my new go-to place to stay when traveling to LA for work and pleasure.
Family & Dog Friendly, something for everyone to enjoy

I've stayed here every month for the past couple of years. Since the re-open, the hotel has done a great job at keeping everything clean and guest safe. This is officially my go to hotel. The restaurant has AMAZING food, everything is delicious. If you happen to get a room in the Portola suites, just self park no need to valet. Oh, extremely dog friendly place. Logan and Storm had a blast.
There's also a little dog park in back of Portola. They have fun daily activities for all guest to enjoy including taco Tuesday. The pool is heated until 10pm.
