A Lucky Find!
Lori M on Jan 27, 2025
We were brought to The Garland in search of respite from the LA fires. What we found was so much more. I don't generally write open reviews, but The Garland deserves a unique shout out. From my initial booking with Rachel to our checkout 9 nights later, each and every encountered Garland employee was friendly and always offered detailed, helpful advice and service. I don't believe I've experienced hotel staff so uniformly gracious and warm. The hotel color scheme and decor of marimekko esque patterns appear to be designed to charm and brighten spirits. Our room was comfortable and well attended to. (The pillows alone were to die for and ones I'd love to find for my own home.) There was always a steady flow of both guests and locals that frequented the restaurant and bar. Suffice it to say, The Garland was an inviting destination that helped calm our frayed nerves....one we are most grateful to have found.
Absolutely Wonderful Hotel & Dog Friendly

On Friday evening (1/10/25), I was told to evacuate the San Fernando Valley (with my dog) due to the CA fires. My sister, her husband and their dogs had evacuated to The Garland the day before. Thankfully, I was also able to get a room there. …and we were even put right across the hall from each other. Extra comforting! My room was spacious and clean. Just perfect! Coming from a customer service background and long-time business career, it is extremely sad to see the disintegration of customer service over the years. …but it is ALIVE and WELL at The Garland! From the front desk, housekeepers, various workers, the staff at The Front Yard - takeout department and at the restaurant - everyone so attentive, courteous and friendly! Food delicious, too. …and an extra bravo to The Garland for being so dog friendly! The water bowls throughout and the fenced- in area is a wonderful touch. I have a shy dog and this was a huge help during our stay. …and my dog sure loved the mat, toy and bowl. Again, such a sweet touch! The evacuation was one of most terrifying and scary times that I had ever faced. The Garland made a calm and lovely environment during the unsettling week.
Home away from Home

We have stayed here many times. As a former California resident, this is like home away from home. With clean rooms and responsive knowledgeable staff, the hotel is very conveniently located. Also highly recommend The Front Yard restaurant. It is a don't miss experience!
Amazing hotel!

3rd stop of our USA trip and this hotel is by far the best one I’ve probably ever stayed in, staff so friendly and always ready to help, on our first night little issue with room noise they couldn’t do enough to rectify that gave us a family suite which is just wow and a $100 restaurant credit, rooms were spotless the beds are by far the comfiest I’ve slept in while on holiday, the laundry room was a big hit too after 10 days in the USA,this place has an outside tv to watch around the pool and a cinema room! 2 hot tubs we spent most our evenings in, food is great also would definitely return! Thanks for an incredible stay.
A 4 night stay

We stayed at the Garland in August 24' as part of our honeymoon trip around the USA. The hotel had been suggested to us by Virgin Holidays, and from looking online we felt this was a good choice. STAFF Upon arrival, reception staff were welcoming and asked us about our stay - we were asked if we wanted to upgrade (for a cost) as we were on our honeymoon but we declined. I would say that if someone is celebrating something such as a honeymoon, birthday or anniversary that it would be nice to be offered something complimentary rather than be asked for extra money. LOCATION We also realised the hotel is quite far from the centre (although not too far from the metro but LA public transport isn't the best) - we should have checked on the location rather than just trusting our holiday planner; this meant for the duration of our stay we mostly relied on Lyft and Uber which do add up - so keep this in mind. One good element of the location of the hotel is that it is very close to Universal, and there is a free shuttle bus between the two - on one of the days, the driver dropped us off at the Metro - which we really appreciated (which is next to Universal) and let us know that we could be picked-up from here too if we called the reception. FOOD When we asked about food options as it was late in the day when we arrived and we had just flown in from SF; we were told we could eat at the pool bar or restaurant onsite (which is a public restaurant). After quickly dropping our things off in the room we decided to eat at the pool bar as it was a nice night. As we went to order we were told that the kitchen was closed and we would not be able to order - this was a little frustrating as we were tired from travelling - however, luckily, the restaurant has space for us where we ordered a flat bread each; food was nice but quite over priced (to be somewhat expected in LA I suppose) - staff were friendly and service was quick. ROOM Room was comfortable, clean and well sized. The inclusion of modern amenities like the steamer was useful - the bed was comfy and also a good size. POOL We managed to use the pool once as we had quite a packed itinerary; the pool is rather small and was mostly occupied by children playing, and so not terribly relaxing. There are two hot tubs - one for everyone and one adults only one, which is useful except when the other one is also being used by young children jumping in and out. Whilst this didn't really bother us, if you are looking for a relaxing hotel, I would suggest an adults only one. Overall, whilst we liked our room, and appreciated the closeness to Universal and free shuttle, we would not return as the hotel is just too far out from the main areas of LA.
