Sunday Brunch

Victor L (Montreal, Canada) on May 09, 2026

I attended the Sunday brunch on May 3rd, 2026, and unfortunately, it was a deeply disappointing experience—one that management should be aware of but doesn’t appear to be. The buffet area is far too small to accommodate the number of guests. There was a long, winding line just to access basic items like scrambled eggs and beans, and the serving dishes themselves were undersized for the volume of guests. The bacon and breakfast sausages were of very poor quality (as was pretty much everything) comparable to what you might find at a low-end diner. The prime rib station was almost comical; the staff member was carving from a piece of meat no larger than a fist. The smoked salmon was difficult to find and presented on a plate far too small for a buffet of this scale. When I got to my table my food was cold. On my second visit to the buffet, I realized why—the warming trays were not functioning. They were either turned off or simply not working, as they were cool to the touch. This points to a serious lapse in oversight, whether due to absent management or a lack of attention to basic service standards. More broadly, the poor food service reflects the overall state of the property. The building appears neglected, with peeling paint, deteriorating walkways, etc. The ownership and the Fairmount group have allowed the property to decline significantly. At $85 per person, plus tax, this experience falls far below any reasonable expectation. I would strongly advise against brunch at this establishment.

Beautiful hotel, warm and impeccable service

Marianne R (Montreal, Canada) on Feb 15, 2026

We spent two nights at the Chateau Montebello with some close friends. From the time of our arrival to the end of our stay, all the staff that we encountered were so warm and professional. The rooms and the amenities have been renovated but the hotel has kept its rustic charm. It's a great hotel for families and friends. There are tons of activities offered with new, state of the art equipment in the gym, pickleball, curling and all outdoor sports. Everything is provided and we made sure to try it all! Highly recommend the breakfast buffet. There's a huge variety and everything is top quality. We just loved our stay.

Perfect Family Weekend at a Cozy, Rustic Fairmont

TravellingMamaYYZ (Toronto, Canada) on Nov 28, 2025

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at the Fairmont Le Château Montebello. The property has a bit of an older, rustic charm, but that’s exactly what makes it so special. The service was top-notch from start to finish. We visited for a weekend family getaway, and there were plenty of activities to keep everyone entertained—even on a gloomy November weekend. The curling lesson was a fantastic touch that both the kids and adults enjoyed, and our curling instructor was friendly and helpful. We also took advantage of the indoor tennis courts and swimming pool, and we never ran out of things to do. A big bonus is that the hotel is pet-friendly, and our dog loved exploring the beautiful trails and waterfront. The Christmas decorations and fireplaces in the lobby were also absolutely lovely, creating a warm, cozy, festive atmosphere that made the whole stay feel magical. A special shout-out to Jeanne at reception. She was incredibly thoughtful, remembered my name and details, and made me feel genuinely welcome. As a Diamond member, I truly appreciated the added touches. Breakfast was excellent with lots of variety, and we had dinner every night at the hotel’s main restaurant, Aux Chantignoles. The food quality was consistently great, and the cozy dining atmosphere fit perfectly with the rustic charm of the property. While the rooms do have an older design, we actually enjoyed the rustic feel. The bathrooms have been renovated, everything was clean, and the housekeeping staff were very friendly—especially toward our dog, which we appreciated. Also, don’t miss Parc Omega nearby. It’s absolutely a must-do! We had a great experience and saw so many animals making it a highlight of the trip. Overall, it was a memorable and lovely stay, and we will definitely be back!

A Beloved Tradition That’s Starting to Decline

homesweethome001 on Nov 16, 2025

We've (big family group of 10) been visiting Château Montebello every year for over 15 years and have always loved our stays. Unfortunately, our most recent visits have felt increasingly underwhelming. The lodge is still beautiful, but it’s beginning to feel seriously outdated. The rooms look like they haven’t changed since the early 2000s—we’ve literally had the same furniture since our first stay. The bathrooms also feel very old and in need of renovation. On top of that, a lot of the building is showing wear: the “temporary” gym feels like an old storage room with a few machines, the paint is peeling, and the carpets are noticeably stained. There also isn’t nearly enough seating in the lobby, which makes it hard to relax during peak times. And while we love children, we travel as a large family ourselves ( 3 generations and 4 young-ish children) —there seem to be little to no rules around noise. Kids were screaming in the hallways at all hours of the night, and nothing was done about it. The pool has always been our highlight, but this year the edges were covered in slime, which was really disappointing. Food-wise, prices are extremely high, and both restaurants offer strange combinations that seem designed to justify the cost (ex., rose petal tartar sauce for 40$ fish and chips...). The breakfast buffet, however, is fantastic—very fresh and varied. Just keep in mind that if you want anything other than the basic, tasteless poured coffee, you’ll be paying extra. Most of the staff are wonderful and genuinely go above and beyond, especially if you’re friendly. Overall, though, the experience no longer matches the hefty price tag, and we really hope to see some updates and improvements soon.
