WHAT A DUMP!!!!
ArtnCindy (Nipomo, California) on Sep 02, 2024
I cannot believe the high reviews on this hotel and cannot believe that Marriott would be involved in any way with lending their name to same. I booked 2 rooms for 4 days months in advance.. I knew things were going downhill when I saw the scaffolding in front of the hotel. Things got worse when we approached the tiny "front desk". I saw a stool behind the reservation clerk that had a top material that was so worn I asked the clerk if he actually ever sat in it. He said no....he sat in the one behind it that was only half as bad. To include the word Suites in the title of this hotel would be quite a overstatement. I checked the dictionary meaning of a suite which said "A group of rooms occupied as a unit". For me that has always meant a bedroom and separate room in form of a living room. The 1 room was miniscule! You had just enough room behind the bed to go into the bath room. I looked for a closet to hang our clothes and there was none. I did see an ugly dark brown small piece of furniture that looked as follows. On the right half I recall something like an ironing board. On the other 50%(left side) there was a very small drawer or 2 with a safe on top which left 25% available for hanging clothes...just enough for me to hang probably my shirts and jeans/pants. NO space for ANY of my wife's clothing which included a half dozen or more long dresses. We have traveled extensively and this was the smallest room we had ever seen and overall quite depressing and claustrophobic. Don't recall there even being a window in the entire room!...certainly not the one shown in the photo to the left of this screen. We then decided that it would not be good for our sanity to stay even 1 hour in the room and at that point I would have paid ANY amount of money to get something we could be proud of l. Luckily we were able to book 2 rooms in the 2 year old Ritz Carlton. .9 blocks south off 5th Ave which was fabulous in all respects . The only thing good about this place was the front desk clerk/mgr. who indicated he would not charge us...a true gentleman. It's unfortunate that he has to work at such a dismal hotel. Marriot would be wise to no longer be associated with this dump and owners should rent out to welfare recipients or provide free rooms for the homeless.
Cable Cut Out During RNC?
Dan C on Aug 13, 2024
Half the elevators were out the first morning. That made breakfast difficult. No biggie, because breakfast was garbage. DO NOT pick this hotel because of free breakfast like we did. Location was good. Why didn’t you mention the hotel was under construction? Again, we would have chosen a different property. Just so happened that the Republican National Convention was happening during our stay (different city). Why when Trump was about to go on did the cable go out? It was magical that it came back on when he was done speaking. Censor much? When I called the front desk and asked, he laughed at my suggestion that it was because of the RNC. Overall, we enjoyed cramming our family into this closet.
Dirty and outdated

This hotel is in a good location, although it is dirty and outdated. In our room, there were stains on the curtains. The walls were dirty, and the bathroom was dirty. The room was very quiet, but due to how outdated and dirty the room was we left after the first day. The hallways are also dirty. There’s no way that there should be rated 4.5 out of five stars, this is a one star hotel. We got two very thin towels for the dirty bathroom. Skip this place as there are many better for the same amount of money.
great launching point

Great value in a fantastic location. I'm baffled by the negative stuff about the staff in other reviews, as the front desk staff and housekeepers I interacted with were super friendly and helpful. The room was small but pretty efficiently arranged and there was a fridge and microwave. The breakfast was meh, but there are many good bakeries within blocks. I had some eggs and a banana then went out for a Danish. I don't drink coffee but I'm told it was quite good. Would definitely stay there again.
Great staff, quiet, and comfortable

We have stayed here multiple times because it's a comfortable and quiet hotel with a pleasant staff. The staff from the front desk, the breakfast gentleman, to the housekeepers are always friendly and helpful. Definitely the nicest NY hotel staff! As a light sleeper, I appreciate the wonderful noise insulation. We never heard neighbors. You'll hear the occasional NYC construction and street noise but nothing disruptive especially at night. The location is off a quieter street, but safe and convenient to all the central things along 5th and 6th avenues. Makes it easy for Uber drivers to pick us up too because there aren't a million cars passing in front of the hotel at all times. The breakfast is your typical Marriott. Rooms are definitely small and cramped and the heater / AC definitely has its issues, but maintenance was very prompt the one time we needed their help. The bed is also very comfortable (love Marriott beds, may be biased as Titanium member). This isn't a 5-star hotel so don't expect anything luxurious. In fact the hotel is due for a facelift. But we find this hotel to be a comfortable stay each time, and appreciate the hospitable staff.
