Great location and fun for teens

This was my fourth stay here with my how 19 year old daughter so I have a soft spot for this hotel. It’s overpriced and honestly not great value for money. Most of the service is officious or just ok. Rooms pretty basic and balconies are tiny. Generally it’s bursting at the seams with corporate convention types. But the pools and grounds are still fun and picturesque and location a short walk to mall and tons of restaurants is so teen friendly. We get free daily breakfast as lifetime titanium and the value there is good as well as the coffee. Yes I’d come back but not once the kids are totally grown and moved on as I’d want a lot more for a romantic stay for two.
Not worth the money (or points)!

I’ve stayed in many beautiful Marriott properties, and for what it charges, the Westin Kierland falls short. Very nice and helpful staff, but the facilities were very unimpressive. Rooms are outdated. Bathroom lock was broken, shower was super slippery and design was just lacking. Jacuzzi next to the pool was broken, and I learned that it had been that way for a long time. Sauna was nice, but no one even told us that we could access it for free. Wine list at outdoor restaurant was not up to standards of a 5-star hotel. Sorry. I’m willing to pay a premium for a nice glass of wine, but there was nothing impressive on the menu. Gym had decent equipment, but it was tiny. Barely room to put a mat on the floor. If I was being charged $300/night, fine, but when the least expensive rate is $800, no thank you.
Kids said "best hotel ever." Very crowded but great staff and fun activities.

We stayed for 5 nights and kids had a blast. I wouldn't come again during a busy time like spring break / Easter though. The pool was so crowded we had to sit on the ground one day and when we tried to put towels down early the next day all chairs were taken by 9am. The Fun Team works hard and did a great job with well organized kids activities like water balloon toss and the paid for activities like build-a-buddy and airbrush tattoos. The hotel does a really nice job with the extras like s'mores at night, live music in lobby, DJ by pool, reptiles, and even a campfire one night with popcorn, snow cones, ice cream etc. The food is pricey, as expected at a hotel, but it's tasty and portions are good (we only ate at the pool though - chips, fruit and pizza). The bartenders and servers take their jobs seriously and do it very well. It's definitely an "anything goes" hotel which is good and bad. There are no lifeguards at the pool except for one at the bottom of the water slide (some were good, others seemed half asleep and ignored basic things like kids holding onto the bottom of the slide while others were coming down). Definite free-for-all on the lazy river and hot tub in terms of kid craziness which is fine for a family pool but some safety stuff like kids floating down the river on stacks of 3 tubes could have used some reeling-in. My other complaint is that the water was really cold, even on a 90 degree day, making it hard to enjoy for parents. We also did the Flowrider which my kids and husband loved but is also highly dependent on how engaged your instructors are in terms of offering tips and how many others are in your group. Location is fine in that you can walk across the street to the mall and restaurants. Overall a nice hotel with great service! Despite my nitpicks the kids said it was the "best hotel ever." :)
Nice Resort But Some Drawbacks

Nice resort, but the constant nickel-and-diming was very off-putting. Especially for the kids activities. $25 fee for candle making - seriously? We paid a lot to stay here, and it felt like there was an additional fee for everything. Additionally, the pool area needed attention: the hot tub in the adults-only area wasn't hot, and the pools had debris and leaves in them on all three days we used them. Not something we'd expect to see at a resort of this caliber.
Low maintenance

If you are used to Marriot, Westin rooms are not that clean, the outside Jacuzzi for adults is never working, and in general is very expensive for the service. The rooms in general are not as Marriot standards. We stayed here for a week, looking forward to enjoying the jacuzzi to relax, and it is very cold. The first day I contacted the manager, who did nothing, 3 days latter it was just the same. Disappointing.
