Great experience

We just got back from the Gran Ventana and had a wonderful relaxing vacation. We visited with another couple. The resort is exactly what we expected for the price we paid. The staff is super friendly and they work extremely hard. We spoke to many people who have been going there for many years….so they must be doing something right. The only complaint we had, is those paper cups they serve your drinks in. Nothing stays cold in them. Sometimes if you were lucky, you would get a plastic or glass glass. I understand why…..but I think there’s better options.

Another Amazing Vacation

We were at the resort from February 13th to 23rd. This was our 6th time but it won't be our last. We flew with Air Transat out of Toronto, it was fine, as expected. I would say the resort at was maximum capacity. Arrival & check-in: We always choose the premium upgrade, so we headed to the vintage lounge for check-in. Room wasn't ready as it was around 2pm, that was fine, we just relaxed & had a couple drinks. We had room 2342, a beautiful, large, bright room. This was the first time I chose to roll the dice & not request a certain room, & we were very pleased. Now keep in mind it was on the 3rd floor but that was fine; I chalked it up to getting my steps in. Food: We ate twice at the Italian & Octopus restaurants & the Ocean Grill once, the rest was the buffet. The food is always tasty, I've never had any issues. Again, everyone we encountered was friendly & smiling. Beach: What can I say? It is still as beautiful as before. The chair game is happening a bit but it is what it is, all of the umbrellas in the premium section are spoken for by 7am. The guys on the beach can't do enough for you, they bring you drinks & are always on it & smiling. Could they use new cushions for the loungers, yes they could. The beach vendors—it drives me insane when people complain about them working...this is their job, they are trying to make a living. Have a conversation with them, ask how they are, that doesn't mean you have to purchase anything. We absolutely love have chats with Pedro everyday, he is such a nice man, I was sad to say goodbye to him. Vintage Lounge: What can I say? This is probably our favourite spot in the whole resort. Ricardo is a very special person, his smile is infectious. Santa always checked on us to ensure our room was good & to let us know when our favourite chairs were free (inside joke). Olvie makes the best dirty martini I have ever had, it's amazing. Is this an older resort, yes but it well maintained & very clean. We are already planning our next visit.
2-3 star review.

All-inclusive "Superior" room booked. Had a room in seperate complex from main area (in 3100 block of rooms). Had a nice pool, and bar service. Room was perhaps a 2 star!!! Lots of fruit-flies everyday, particular in bathroom. Sink faucet leaking around much needed caulking sink/counter. Bath-tub needed caulking. Curtains dirty, much need of repair. A/C VERY NOISY. Requested towels 4 times after minimum maid service (at 5pm). Windows dirty. Had balcony (main floor) overlooking a screened privacy fence to a road and a not so great building (noise of trucks, cars, scooters). Buffet style was mediocre (most foods sit for longest of times, therefore stale/cold). Unless you get chef made on the spot meals (i.e. pasta counter). All open areas - birds flying in and bout the buffet restaurant (some sitting on your table)!!!!!! Italian restaurant 1st reservation was good and hot food. Second time it was very cold and staff seemed to want to rush. Ocean grill....was just OK. Beach area was great, although peddlers constantly back and forth (constantly) which was annoying. Even if you said no thank you, they would come back again and again. Private pool area (where our room was) was good and peaceful. All said and done, relaxing time, but would never go to that hotel again. It needs major renovations (at least where we were far removed from the main area). Furniture was outdated too, could not see in closet as no lights. Very disappointed accommodations. Our friends also have same comments. If you have a CPAP, try to bring your own water as not able to get at hotel and pharmacies (I am sure the hotel guests do have some CPAP users too - shame that they don't carry distilled water!)
Would definitely return!

We enjoyed this hotel very much. The food was great, cleanliness was exceptional. The beach was clean. Rooms were a little dated but had a great nights sleep. Very quiet. Would definitely return. Just wish they spoke better English.
