The gist of our experience was great.... a few hiccups along the way but the Hotel is lovely and clean.

Pro's: Pictures on the website are accurate. The hotel is quite large. We were situated in bldg 4 and it was lovely overlooking the pools and a portion of the ocean and it was quiet. The staff were all friendly and a special shout out to Daniel (Danny Boy) for greeting us on arrival and helping us with our bags and a minor miscommunication with our room. He sang to us ....... lots of laughs.... which put that extra smile on our faces. Also ,special mention to Andrea our housekeeper for keeping our room spotless and adding little extra touches to make the vacation great. whenever we needed anything she would make sure to deliver. The majority of the restaurant meals were fantastic especially the steakhouse and the Italian and Japanese they were worth the visit. The buffet always had an array of food but the morning homemade omelettes were the best.( A $1-2 tip to the chef who prepared them and your face will be remembered with a smile !! ) There is a coffee shop that makes pastries, cakes, cookies sandwiches etc in case you are looking for a quick bite. Servers in the pool areas are very attentive, and friendly. Cons BEWARE OF THE BEACH!! Unfortunately we had no knowledge from Air Canada that the beach was full of seaweed so if you are planning a beach vacation and spend $$$$ you may want to try another destination. We were able to walk some parts of the beach but the stench of the seaweed was overpowering. The crew hired to clean up were doing their best but it affected the entire strip way past the Secrets hotel even. We were told by one of the managers that it would take months to complete what washed up. Again they are trying their best to remove it. If its a pool holiday then this is your place. The only restaurant that was really bad was the sports Bar. The selection of food is very minimal .....you wont find wings, pizza, or taco's here and the nacho's are really bad. We are Canadian and love our hockey so 3 times on our holiday we and a few others would meet up for the game there but unfortunately spent more time sharing cell phones to watch the game on it because some of the staff did not understand how to work the system. Hopefully that will improve in time . Always check outside the Buffet for which restaurants are open on given days..even marked for all to see you may be surprised when you get there that they decided to close for the evening without updating their list. If your heart was set on steak that night you may be let down last minute....
Relaxing couples getaway

We had an amazing time. Alma made us feel cared for, especially on our anniversary. She took care of many small things for us to ensure our vacation was relaxing. The plentiful seaweed and trucks removing seaweed on the beach made it difficult to enjoy the beach, but we loved the pool areas.
Worst resort

WorI recently had a disappointing experience at this resort, which I would not recommend for families. Firstly, the language barrier was a significant issue; the staff's limited understanding of English made communication frustrating and complicated. This lack of effective communication extended to the overall service quality, which was lacking in professionalism and attention. The room service was particularly poor. I encountered bugs in both my room and the restaurants, which made for an uncomfortable stay. It was unsettling to feel that cleanliness was not a priority, and I was genuinely concerned about hygiene. When it came to the dining options, the food quality was subpar. The meals were often cold and tasted as though they were of very low quality. I was shocked to see that no staff members wore gloves while handling food, which only added to my concerns about safety and hygiene. Additionally, the lack of variety in the menu was disappointing. There were very few options, especially for children, making it difficult for families to find meals that their kids would enjoy. Overall, I felt like I was taken advantage of, as I did not receive the value for my money that I expected. It was a letdown and not worth the investment.
Pros & Cons

Overall, a decent, average experience compared to other all-inclusive resorts in Mexico, Costa Rica, and the Dominican Republic. This is heavily a pool vacation rather than a beach vacation as many have stated. The Pros -Excellent Pools: Multiple expansive pools and swim-up bars. Swim up bar staff are all wonderful! Claudia at Kaiman bar went above and beyond. Ask for a “Claudia special drink”! -Preferred Club Perks (Worth the Upgrade): Access to à la carte breakfast and lunch (a great alternative if you dislike buffets). The Kaiman pool and swim-up bar is now strictly enforced as Preferred-only. Staff checks room numbers and asks non-members to leave. The Preferred lobby bar offers great drinks and evening entertainment. Preferred guests also have access to some better alcohol options such as Tito’s vodka. -Dining: The food at the à la carte restaurants weren’t bad. We found something decent to eat at each restaurants. Remember—if you don’t like something, it doesn’t cost you more to ask for something else to eat. The cafe had great coffees & smoothies as well! Barefoot grill had good burgers & chicken sandwiches to eat beachside or take back to eat at the pool. -Staff: all friendly and make the experience great! Shout out to Elian (Fabulous) from the entertainment staff! Always getting us involved in the poolside games. Lady as well was also enjoyable to talk with! Our concierge Luis was a busy guy but always helped us with our requests & even helped us with storing frozen breast milk and bringing us some each day when we needed it! The Cons & Disappointments -The Beach / Seaweed: The sargassum (seaweed) was pretty expansive, preventing any swimming in the ocean. Even walking along the beach, all of the neighboring hotels had the same issue. Note: This is a seasonal Mother Nature issue, and actually better than what we've experienced in Cancun at times in past years. -Olio Restaurant (Dinner NOT breakfast or lunch): it was a major disappointment. The resort app advertised an à la carte dinner menu, but it was actually a buffet. The food quality was poor, options were very limited, and the dishes were extremely dry. We ended up leaving to eat elsewhere.
Best time ever

The best experiance we have ever had. Our concierge Johan was absolutely the best. He was there for us 24 7. Johan delivered all of our needs. Johan made sure we had enough drinks for our room, set up a romantic dinner for our 30th Anniversary, made sure we were 100% comfortable in every aspect. We had a swim up, Johan made sure we were served drinks and food right to our pool all week long. He also noticed our pool was loosing water and immediately got on the phone to fix the issue. Johan set our room for our Anniversary with rose petals and a bottle of champagne. Rose petals from the front door to the bed with an arrangement saying happy 30th anniversary. Then there is Richy. Richy was our waiter on our romantic dinner night. Richy set up a special area on the beach and made sure it was lit up romanticly. Brought us champagne, red & white wine, took pictures and videos of us on our special day. The food on pur Anniversary was made by a 5 starr chef, which was 10 star. Sorry, I do not know the name. "This is where you come in Richy." Overall, great experiance because of these 2 guys.
