Honest review, pretty good but with some caveats

As a couple we stayed at the TRS Turquesa end of april / beginning of May. We had stayed in a TRS before in Mexico (Yucatan) and had a great experience. Modern rooms, great restaurants, good service, generally a 5* feel. We obviously therefore had high hopes for Turquesa. We did have a good time which I will lead on to, but Mexico was another level. Far better room, better service in the restaurants, better environment in the restaurants for the most part. On to Turquesa. Room was good but more dated. In Mexico (we might have got lucky) but we had two balconies, one with a hammock. His and hers basins. A separate lounge. At Turquesa, one basin, one balcony, not everything working (ie lights etc). Restaurants - similar in the set up to Mexico as per other TRS. Helios the main breakfast and lunch place turned into Gaucho in the evening which is the steak restaurant. This was separate in Mexico and really felt like a proper steak restaurant. Service was also mixed, you can have buffet and or a la carte for breakfast and dinner but often we had to wait considerable time and call staff over to actually take our order for a la carte and on a handful of times either our food came really late or wasn't what we ordered. For the most part it was good though and the staff were generally friendly. Mexico they learned who we were and what we liked which was a nice personal touch which we didn't get in Punta Cana. You have an app that you can use to book restaurants etc (you can also use your butler) but this didn't work for us for a few days when we arrived and no one could help us with this. We used our butler to book our initial reservations and to be fair he was good throughout. On our final night we had a Spanish restaurant booked through the app and confirmed and when we turned up it was closed!! There is a good range of restaurants but be prepared to have to explore the full resort and travel reasonable distances to go to these. Also note that only a small proportion are TRS exclusive so expect children. In Mexico on the app we could schedule buggy rides but didn't seem possible here. You can generally pick one up though. Entertainment - all of the entertainment with the exception of music performers in the main TRS lobby are outside of the TRS section and open to all including children. So I wouldn't say it feels like a proper adults only holiday. Entertainment was mixed, we had fun but it didn't feel much different to lesser rated hotels. Pool area - nice pool in the TRS and I have to say that the staff were really good doing the drink runs etc. Two ladies who were there every day and came around regularly. We got a nice relationship with them and the drinks were good. I would advise bringing some dollars to tip, not that from what I saw this would make them dramatically different in their service. But it's nice to do. Beach was lovely. Quite a bit of seaweed especially after rain but although we didn't see it it looks like there was an effort to clean it. Sea water lovely and warm and clearest in the morning. You get the normal hassle on the beach for shops and people selling cigars etc but not as pushy as other places we have been. Weather was mixed when we went. We went for 10 days and had sunny days, overcast days, rainy days. Chic caberet is worth it. We went in Mexico too and had an idea what it would be like and it was on the same level. It's not my normal thing but I think anyone who goes wouldn't be disappointed. One thing worth mentioning is that when we checked in we were told to come back 10am this morning for a show around the hotel. We don't normally do this as we like to find our way around but as the hotel is quite large we thought why not this time. Headed to the reception area and it was only us. Took a buggy with the staff and the 'look around' lasted all of about 5 minutes. Dropped off at a building where we then spent the next 2 hours getting a sales pitch on joining the Palladium club where they were nice but pushing a hard sale which we were disappointed by as it was our first day, and my birthday, and we just wanted to enjoy our current holiday where we had just arrived. In the end I had to be quite forward to get it to stop and we left. I think this was wrong to lead us there under false pretence and on our first day. Make it obvious that this is what it is and preferably towards the end of your holiday! All this being said, we did have a good time.. Just didn't have the same feel as Mexico which was in our view more 'luxury' and adults only.
Awesome Experience!!
