Barcelo Maya EXCELLENTE!!!

Excellent choice for a short week vacation, we visited many caribbean islands through the years, and have already been to Mexico Riviera Maya of course, but it would seem that Barcelo have kept up with maintenance, service, food and everything else one needs for a memorable getaway.
Great spot

This hotel has everything you could want and more. Spending a week with your family at this resort is both relaxing and entertaining.
Will definitely return

I stayed here with my wife and 1 year old and it was an INCREDIBLE trip. The staff were amazing and very baby friendly. They were constantly waving hi and smiling at our child, which made her day, every day! The resort itself was in great condition, the pools were gorgeous, rooms had AC, and it had everything you could want for a vacation. We didn't do any a la carte restaurants, but the buffet was incredible for breakfast lunch and dinner (the coffee was amazing). The bars did get a little busy at points (there was a large group of college students on spring break), but nothing crazy, and the bar staff were fast and friendly. We will absolutely be returning.
Was okay for my first time at a family-resort

This was my very first time going to a family resort as opposed to an adults-only resort (we booked with a larger group that had families). The cons and then the pros. The cons: The resort was VERY crowded (March Break) and lots of college kids were present as well as tons of small children. Upon checking in for a week, we learned that the majority of the specialty restaurants were already booked and so some of us only got bookings at 4 restaurants during the entire stay. This is unacceptable in a resort that you're paying the same price for that others who get all their bookings. Very disappointed in that. Like every resort I have ever been to, if you don't get up early to nab a chair by the pool or beach, you won't have a spot. (This is obviously not unique to Barcelo and is a fact of life now at most resorts). The room's air conditioner was not working properly since it was always humid in the room. So much so that my paperback novel began to curl. In addition, the bathroom needed some work as some of the areas on the tub were rusting and the dispenser that had shampoo, body wash & conditioner was missing its shampoo case (glad I brought some from home). The shopping mall area is an obvious cash-grab and is a haven for all the college kids getting drunk. A couple from our group tried out the bowling and enjoyed it. The pros: This property is incredibly clean and tidy. The buffet restaurants are well done with a nice offering of local Mexican food (that is more authentic than some of the offerings in other resorts which try to cater to a more American-style audience). The reservation restaurants (the ones we got to try) were also very well done. The lobby areas are a nice spot to hang out in. The evening shows were well done for what they had to work with and despite the rowdy drunks in the crowd, we managed to enjoy them. The staff is nice (not as nice as I have experienced at adults-only... but probably because families can often be pretty demanding). Overall nice place- not sure I'd stay here again
Truly a gem!

We have returned to the Barcelo Tropical so many times with family, friends and as a couple and we truly have no desire to explore another resort. Everything about this property is well thought out and well maintained, but the warmth, efficiency and genuine care of the staff, are truly second to none! We can’t wait to return next year with our children, grandchildren and extended family.!
