The perfect family resort
Maria G on Dec 05, 2024
Overall summarized: the resort had everything we could have asked for, and everything we needed. Zero complaints. Room: we had a very comfortable king sized bed, plenty of room for luggage/shoes/clothes. The bathroom was clean, and the shower water was nice and hot (pressure a little low). Lots of space on the sink. We had a nice walk out patio to enjoy our drinks on. The staff cleaned our room every morning and we returned to a tidy room every afternoon. Grounds: the grounds were immaculate. Every detail of the landscaping was maintained beautifully. Lots of cool lizards and birds in the green space. The pathways took you all over the resort, and the signage helped you find where you were going. Food: I am still stuffed. The buffet was fully stocked for breakfast, lunch and dinner (closing for 1-2 hours between each). There were several “snack bars” opened from 10:30-6:30, that were basically smaller versions of the buffet. The food varied and was always refilled. We ate at 2 a la cartes. The japanese was amazing - we got a very neat hibachi show, and the chef was talented and entertaining! We also ate at Santa Fe steakhouse. I am vegan so I didn’t eat here, but my family did and they really enjoyed it. Drinks: pina coladas for days. The house wines were nice. And the alcohol selection was endless. Unlike some resorts, they will basically make you whatever drink you want. The coffee was great. The buffets had coffee machines that could make almost any drink you’d order at Starbucks (latte, americano, cappuccino, etc). They also have almond and soy milk as an alternative. Entertainment: the staff absolutely thrived at this. Daily at the pool they’d have water aerobics and Zumba. The staff would walk around inviting people to participate. They also organized water polo and beach volleyball throughout the day. The pool area also had volleyballs, basketballs, and ping pong to rent for free. There were also paddleball/pickleball courts you could rent for free. The “Maya Mall” is within the resort and has multiple stores and restaurants inside, including a really fun sports bar that is included in the all inclusive! We watched football and ate bar foods from the snack buffet, as well as had drinks. There were arcade games and bowling lanes (for extra money). Safety: the room had a safe where we kept our passports. I brought my beach bag to the pool to keep our cell phones and room keys in, which I kept under my beach chair hidden under a towel. Nothing ever went missing, and I did not hear of anyone’s belongings going missing. Everyone we ran into was very polite and friendly. We have a 15 and 13 year old, and they often went to the beach together and did not encounter any problems. We will absolutely be returning to this resort!!
Worth the trip!!

Barcelo Maya is a gorgeous resort that is impeccably maintained. This was our second visit and we decided to get a premium room. It was so worth it. We loved having the Premium office/lounge to check in and get info, snacks and drinks. Isamar was so, so helpful and sweet. She has an incredible memory and attention to detail. She really helped make our trip special and we are grateful.tknhave had her help and smile. The beach is beautiful and there is great snorkelling close to shore. We saw lots of rays and big turtles. It was pretty magical. The dive center there is also fantastic. We didn't love the à la carte restaurants. The best one was probably the Santa Fe steakhouse. The Japanese was inedible. We found the food to be fine at the buffets. We always found something yummy and we were usually too tired to care about dinner anyway after a fun day at the beach. We will definitely return and will probably stay at the Barcelo Palace. This time and last we stayed at the Tropical.
