Misleading Ocean FRONT rooms + unresponsive management on our Honeymoon.
dr3ddc (Bothell, Washington) on Dec 05, 2025
We chose The Westin Ka’anapali Ocean Resort Villas for our honeymoon specifically for an oceanfront room — not “ocean view.” What we got: a room where two-thirds of the view is a building directly across from us, overlooking the busiest pool and grill area. Nowhere near what’s pictured on the booking websites. We lost hours on our first night dealing with a room change and still ended up in a misrepresented room category. Management stopped responding, and daytime staff were rude, complete with sighing, eye-rolling, and interrupting. We were promised a call from a senior manager that never came. The lack of accountability and hospitality has been shocking for a high-priced Marriott/Westin resort. I prefer to try to resolve issues prior to leaving a bad review, but after my final attempt of sending a detailed email to management and corporate two days ago with now response, I have no other choice but to warn others. If you’re booking an oceanfront stay in Maui, be extremely careful, this resort does not seem to deliver on what they advertise and offers no follow-through when you ask for help. A major disappointment during what should have been a once-in-a-lifetime trip.
Nice and relaxing resort

It was our first time staying in this resort and based on some mixed reviews we were not sure what to expect. In our previous trips, we stayed in Hyatt which is couple of miles away on the busy side of the Kaanapali beach. We found this hotel to be very nice and pleasant. The resort area was very well kept with beautiful land scape. The walk on the beach was very relaxing with a few restaurants walking distance. The staff was helpful. We also liked the fact that the north side of the Kaanapali beach is less crowded and more relaxing. There was a few negatives worth mentioning; people hogged the pool chairs in the shaded area by leaving their towels overnight which is against the rule. Our room was facing the parking lot and had noise issue. You can hear the noise of HWY 30 all the time. The gardener blowers start around 6:00AM. You need to keep the window closed if you do not want the noise. I asked to change our room but I was told the hotel can not make any changes.
Early risers and pool chair savers rejoice!

If you enjoy getting out to the pool at 6 am for chairs to sit in for the day then this is the resort for you! Despite a clear policy on not doing so there is zero enforcement of the policy. My advice would be to have an early riser cos it’s and save 6 spots or so with towels if you want to have any hope of a spot. Restaurants…. Mediocre at best. Our nachos from Auntie’s for the kids were mostly just a bag of chips with a few condiments. What there was was actually good but for the price not worth it. Our entrees were of the same quality. Ok but but lacking and overprice. A short walk or uber to whalers village is recommended over the on site options for dining. Room was nice and spacious. Shower equipped with black mold that was visible. Bed very comfortable. Gym adequate although it seems they took all the equipment for one gym and spit it up between the 2 gyms. Good news. Maui herself never disappoints. Ocean and sunshine are always amazing.
Beautiful Location & Great Service

The setting is beautiful with the Koi ponds around the gardens and the pools are beautiful. The direct access to the beach is ideal. One morning I awoke early and didn’t want to wake up my husband by making coffee in my room. I headed down to the lobby to read hoping to get a coffee there. The coffee shop didn’t open until 6am but Mark a helpful associate from the Bell stand made me an early morning coffee. He went out of his way to account 4:45am request. True hospitality - the Aloha spirit that Maui is known for. The fire pit and hot tubs at night and in the morning run on the beach- it was ideal. The units had lots of space. It was so convenient to have a washer and dryer.

rude staff, not impressed by this hotel. Never once hear any staff say hello to us. At checkin they failed big time to give us directions such as pool hours, restaurants location and hours. Towel check-in check-out process, etc. They failed making us feel welcome to our stay. As a Marriott Elite member, which Marriott owns Westin, I was never recognized as a member. Even with the Marriott Bovoy sign at the front desk, they basically refuse to recognize the owner of westin. There other better Maui options, which I will use next time.
