Lock- off Room Woes
Don B on Dec 13, 2025
Through a promotion I reserved a studio unit in the south complex and was not aware that it had a “lock-off” configuration and no balcony. This works fine for a group that needs a two bedroom suite but does not work when there are separate parties. The family next door to me had several kids that consistently slammed doors and rang the door bells in the hall that sounded in my room. They left towels and trash bags in the entry way. When I brought this to the attention to the front desk, they asked if I talked to my neighbors about it (!) and declined to do anything. Also, the walls are thin and I could easily hear the TV in their room. In addition to these issues, the Wi-Fi was under maintenance and intermittently down. There were housekeeping quality issues with the sofa bed partially unfolded when I arrived at the room, trash not emptied, towels not replaced, etc. The king bed was soft and lumpy. Although the overall property is beautiful outside, for a Westin resort there were too many problems and I would not stay here again.
This property offered what I was looking for

Just completed a 7 night stay as a hotel guest...not a Vacation Club owner. We booked an ocean view, one bedroom villa. These are the units with a full kitchen, large living room/dining room, one king bed with a pull out couch in the living room (which we did not use) and an oversized bathroom. We were on the second floor in Building 2 and had the ocean view without obstruction. This is a property that is well kept with grounds that are beautiful, a staff that is friendly, knowledgeable, helpful and willing to please. We only used one of the pools, but it was in excellent condition. Like many resorts, people show up early in the day and drape towels on the chairs to hold them. Pool security wasn't all that strict about enforcing the one hour rule, but the property had enough chairs, so it wasn't a problem. We use the full kitchen to the max. There's a SAFEWAY and Foodland Farms minutes away to the south. There's a TIMES market a few miles to the north and at least a couple of days during the week, there's an impressive Farmer's Market in Napilli, just north of where TIMES is located. We did not eat at any of the on site dining offerings. We used the shuttle to make our way to Whalers Village and found that to be very convenient. We were told that parking at the Village is crowded, so the shuttle saves that hassle. A rental car took care of our transportation needs. Every morning I was out on the beach path with stunning views. Our stay took place just after Thanksgiving, so the property didn't seem all that crowded. Yes, kids made noise and horsed around the pool and grounds, but that's what happens at a family resort. No big deal. A majority of the guests we encountered were timeshare owners, many of whom seem to return with great frequency. We were very comfortable as hotel guests and made to feel welcom and appreciated. In a heartbeat we would stay at this property again. That's just about the highest compliment we can pay.
Beautiful Property

30-45 minutes drive from OGG airport. You will definitely need a car rental if you want to explore the island. Areas to explore: Napili, Kapalua, Kehei, Wailea The rooms at the villas have a small kitchenette and a washer a dryer! Loved those amenities! We came here on a package from Marriott and we received a $300 credit to use at the site or sites listed on a list they give you. We took advantage of exploring outside of the hotel: Merriman's for happy hour, Kapalua Plantation House for breakfast, and Duke's for dinner! What a great list that was! All fantastic service and great food! The property is so beautiful! In the mornings, we walked on the beach exploring each side rotating days. There are so many other beautiful properties alongside the beach. There is a beautiful coy pond where you can feed the large fish! Food was good for breakfast. Parking is a tight squeeze on self park, so you have to get there at the right time to score a good parking. To get to the Whaler's Village, there is a shuttle from the hotel so you can save on drive time and parking. If you plan to stay awhile, you can shop at Safeway or Tim's - they have a grill outside . Absolutely a beautiful property.
Misleading Ocean FRONT rooms + unresponsive management on our Honeymoon.
dr3ddc (Bothell, Washington) on Dec 05, 2025
We chose The Westin Ka’anapali Ocean Resort Villas for our honeymoon specifically for an oceanfront room — not “ocean view.” What we got: a room where two-thirds of the view is a building directly across from us, overlooking the busiest pool and grill area. Nowhere near what’s pictured on the booking websites. We lost hours on our first night dealing with a room change and still ended up in a misrepresented room category. Management stopped responding, and daytime staff were rude, complete with sighing, eye-rolling, and interrupting. We were promised a call from a senior manager that never came. The lack of accountability and hospitality has been shocking for a high-priced Marriott/Westin resort. I prefer to try to resolve issues prior to leaving a bad review, but after my final attempt of sending a detailed email to management and corporate two days ago with now response, I have no other choice but to warn others. If you’re booking an oceanfront stay in Maui, be extremely careful, this resort does not seem to deliver on what they advertise and offers no follow-through when you ask for help. A major disappointment during what should have been a once-in-a-lifetime trip.
Nice and relaxing resort
USAARY (Cupertino, California) on Nov 02, 2025
It was our first time staying in this resort and based on some mixed reviews we were not sure what to expect. In our previous trips, we stayed in Hyatt which is couple of miles away on the busy side of the Kaanapali beach. We found this hotel to be very nice and pleasant. The resort area was very well kept with beautiful land scape. The walk on the beach was very relaxing with a few restaurants walking distance. The staff was helpful. We also liked the fact that the north side of the Kaanapali beach is less crowded and more relaxing. There was a few negatives worth mentioning; people hogged the pool chairs in the shaded area by leaving their towels overnight which is against the rule. Our room was facing the parking lot and had noise issue. You can hear the noise of HWY 30 all the time. The gardener blowers start around 6:00AM. You need to keep the window closed if you do not want the noise. I asked to change our room but I was told the hotel can not make any changes.
