This place was perfect the staff was incredible the rooms were perfect! The food the pool everything!!!

I booked a stay at Alaia Belize, Autograph Collection expecting a luxury 5-star experience, but the quality fell far short of basic standards. I ended up cutting my trip short and checking out early. Foul Ocean & Unusable Beach: The beachfront was completely ruined by a thick, foul-smelling layer of sargassum seaweed that went unmanaged along the shore. The heavy stench hung over the property, making outdoor lounging miserable and entering the water completely unappealing. Overpriced, Disappointing Food: Dining on-site was a massive disappointment. The food was bland, poorly prepared, and drastically overpriced for the quality served. Paying high-end resort prices for sub-par meal after sub-par meal was unacceptable. Awkward Room Layout & Zero Privacy: I booked an Oceanview Studio expecting a serene space. Instead, the "balcony" turned out to be an open walkway where anyone walking by could look right in. Between the lack of privacy, uncomfortable modular setup, and cramped living area, the room felt far below expectations. Communication Lapses & Poor Value: Loyalty status felt ignored, and communication from resort management was nonexistent. I even received an invitation to a resort member event hours after the event had already finished. Between the terrible beach conditions, dismal food quality, and overall lack of attention to detail, this property was nowhere near the standard of a resort at this price point. I could not justify staying any longer and left early. I will not be returning.

Long overdue review… My husband and I chose this resort as we are Marriott loyalists who love to scuba dive. The Alaia has an on-site scuba shop which makes it very easy to spend the morning diving and the afternoon relaxing by the pool. We are lifetime Titanium and booked an Oceanview Vista Studio with King bed. We were warmly greeted at reception and thanked for our loyalty though no upgrade was offered. The room was much smaller than expected and the “balcony” is the outdoor area where one enters the room which was really odd. We typically sit on our balcony to drink our morning coffee but the not private “balcony” configuration and weird squishy modular furniture did not lend itself to two adults sitting with hot coffee. The employees at the Alaia are wonderful. They are all very friendly and eager to help in any way especially around the pool area where they stop by frequently just to check in. We spent the mornings diving, then after quick showers to rinse off the salt, the afternoons by the pool, and then watched the sunset from the rooftop bar. On one particular evening, we watched the staff setting up for what looked like a fun event. We asked a staff member what was the event and we were told “it’s a private event.” We enjoyed watching all the couples come up in their lovely outfits to enjoy the private event - it looked like they were all having a great time! When we got back to our room, there was an invitation on our desk to the special Marriott Bonvoy member event on the rooftop for that same evening. So disappointing. Had they given us the invitation earlier in the week or even earlier that same day (it wasn’t there when we’d showered and changed after diving) we would have enjoyed attending. The major downside to the Alaia is the pervasive stench from the sargassum which permeates the entire resort. When we were there, the sargassum extended about 50 yards from the edge of the water outward. It was really gross. I asked an employee if there is a “season” for sargassum and maybe we just picked the wrong time of year and he told me “this isn’t bad at all” which is quite concerning because the smell was HORRID. We had a very nice week of diving and appreciated the genuinely kind staff at the Alaia but given the small rooms with weird “balconies” and the sargassum issue, I’m not sure we would return.
