Worst food poisoning of my life! Resort itself is “so so” but definitely not 4*

I will start by saying I have been to eight different all-inclusive resorts in Mexico so I have a very good perspective of what a four star resort should look like.. We flew in from Canada with our family. There were seven of us taking a vacation together. On the third day, I started to feel unwell after having had a seafood pasta dish at lunch. By dinner, I was so nauseous and vomiting so hard that I had to seek medical help. Went to the medical clinic a five minute walk away and was put on an IV immediately with three different drugs. When I informed the hotel the next day they acted as if it was the first time they had ever encountered food poisoning at their hotel. This was the same week that an article came out identifying another resort in Mexico where dozens of people got food poisoning (https://www.ctvnews.ca/toronto/article/it-was-a-nightmare-dozens-of-canadians-hit-hard-by-vomiting-diarrhea-after-trip-to-mexican-hotel/). With the number of 24 hour medical clinics with doctors on the Cancun strip one wonders what is really going on. The resort itself was only so so. The buffet served virtually the same food at lunch every day. If you didn’t get there right when it opened, there were lineups that formed out front. It was very apparent that the size of the restaurant is not sufficient for the number of guests at the hotel. The other restaurants that were there were nothing to write home about. Just so so. One night we went to the seafood restaurant and my son ordered chicken. This was after I had already had food poisoning. He had opened the chicken only to see that it was partially raw inside and we had to send it back. I can only imagine if he or somebody else consumed this!! you have to really be careful as to what you are putting in yours and your children’s mouths. They do not have the same standards as we have in Canada for food safety. The beach was hard sand with several feet of rocks in the water as you walk in. There is much nicer sand at the condo resort next-door. The only positive thing I will say about the beach was there was sufficient shade given all of the palm trees. Also, this resort is situated directly beside the ferry that goes to the island. So every hour you hear the horn telling everybody to make sure they are aboard. There is also a large number of boats coming in and out constantly, so there is quite a lot of noise, mostly from the Captain Hook and other pirate ships and lots of music. The last thing I will talk about is the extreme noise at night. There is not a room at the resort where you do not hear the music late into the evening. If you are looking to go with young kids and they cannot sleep through very loud music this is not the place to go. We did have a significant ceiling leak in our bathroom, but on the last night we were moved to another room so they could fix the problem. Unfortunately, that room is closer to the music which made it impossible for us to sleep. I’ve been to many 4 star resorts in Mexico and have had lovely vacations. Unfortunately, we will not be returning here. If I was to rate it comparatively to other resorts, it would only get a three star rating. It has a two star rating from me because of the food poisoning and the expense I had to go through to seek medical help.

Three wonderful weeks
dtkennedy2017 (Loreto, Mexico) on Feb 25, 2026
We had three wonderful weeks at this hotel. The grounds were kept immaculate. The food was excellent and enjoyed the three à la carte restaurants. Our room was usually cleaned in the morning. We were so happy with this resort we will be booking for next year. The people we would like to recognize are Natalia, Carlos Alberto,Deisy, Francisco, Alex, Roberto, Karina, William, Vanilly,Abimael, Jose Cazaes and Karina Morelos. All these people went above and beyond to make our holiday special. The staff is incredible. The grounds are so clean. The beach is lovely and you are right next door to the Ferry, catamarans and pirate ship. An absolutely great hotel!
