Hyatt Ziva Cancun 2024 #2
Jesse F (Victoria, Canada) on Dec 08, 2024
We stayed here in Jan 2024 and wrote a more in-depth review for that trip. This will just be to touch on a few differences since the last stay. Pros: Room: Previous stay was Ocean front in the Pyramid which had a great view. This time we were in a corner room in the Club Tower and wow what a view of the hotel zone. The amenities in the Club lobby were a big plus when travelling with a 3 year old. Was very convenient to pop down in the morning for some breakfast items and cold drinks. My wife and I also loved being able to grab a cocktail at the bar there on our way out to dinner. We did have a bit of an incident with the safe in our room but the hotel handled it promptly and professionally. Beach: We transferred over to Ziva after a week at a resort a bit North of the HZ and I was reminded immediately just how beautiful the water and beaches are at Ziva compared to other areas. Food: Had great meals at all the restaurants and even found there to be more variety around the pool for lunches this time compared to our January stay. When travelling with a toddler it was great to have more lunch options that he was interested in as opposed to having to dry and dress him and take him to a restaurant every time he was hungry. Cons: Pool Temp: What the heck happened since January?!?! One of the main reasons we came back for a second trip was the great memories my Son and I made playing in the pools for hours. This trip I doubt we spent more than 20 mins in the pool simply because it was freezing.....this was even more perplexing considering the weather was hotter this trip than it was in January. Some might say this is subjective but when the entire pool is empty and staff can't even get anyone to engage in the pool activities it was pretty evident there is an issue there. The ocean was WAY warmer than the pools. Also frustrating to get misleading answers when asking the staff.....one claimed the pools have never been heated while another claimed they were just in the middle of fixing it. They also could use a few more washrooms closer to the pool. Spent a lot of time walking my 3 year old either to Habaneros or inside past the buffet to use the washroom. Upsell: I understand the staff are just doing their jobs but getting badgered about services for an extra charge got old real quick. Cabana rentals, spa treatments, golf simulator lessons, etc. If you got up from your pool lounger to walk 50 yards to the bathroom you were stopped a few times at least and offered amenities at an extra charge. When the resort is very expensive as it is it doesn't feel good to be squeezed for more at every turn. Overall we do really love this place. I am perhaps a bit more discerning due to it's high price tag but should we get the opportunity to come back I know we would take it. In only two trips we have made a lot of great core memories with our family
Don't go with young kids

The hotel is great, staff is wonderful, food is nice. I would not recommend to come back with family. When it's a little windy outside, the kids cannot be at the beach and need a pool to be able to swim in. These pools were ice cold and not heated. When my kids went to go use the hot tub to warm up, the staff abruptly through them out. I haven't 8-year-old, 5-year-old and 3-year-old. You would expect at least the kids area or pool to be heated. Next time I go to Cancun I will look for a resort that has heated pools. Be aware that certain advertisement will say that the Hyatt Ziva has heated pools but that's not true at all.
Best resort!!

We absolutely loved Hyatt Ziva! Best resort we have stayed at and we have been going to Cancun for the past 12 years. The beach is close and it's beautiful, the sand is soft. The water is crystal clear and there's no seaweed. The staff is amazing and the food is delicious! Recommend Lorenzo's Italian, Tradewinds steak, Habaneros - best Mexican food, and Moongate for teppanyaki dinner. The rooms are nice, modern and clean with comfy beds and soft pillows. The shower is huge and the water pressure is awesome. People don't chase you to sign up for timeshare or excursions but are available if you are interested. They have dolphins and they are beautiful to look at. They have kids club and teens club and great nightly entertainment. We had an amazing experience and we will definitely go back!!
The service and authenticity of the people was very heartfelt. Thank you Carlos & Carla! Gracias! Mia Mor!

Thanksgiving 2024!

Overall was a really good experience. Very nice property. On a nice part of the beach. Food was very good, but we were really disappointed in the Thanksgiving buffet. Not a lot of options, there was turkey, but definitely not a lot of side dishes or holiday themed foods or desserts.
