Very strange lack of basic facilities - think carefully before booking.

My wife and I have travelled all around the world and have stayed in many different hotels. I cannot recall ever staying in one before that had no proper bar, no lounge and no breakfast on site. There is a nice, clean pool area with a bar and a snack service but that’s only fine if you want to be outside in the Florida heat and humidity. For some breakfast you must leave the hotel and walk down the street and find a Starbucks or cafe. We stayed a few days and for the whole time the main elevator was broken. There was another elevator accessed through the rear parking lot and delivery area, walk past pallets of goods, delivery vans and trash disposal to reach it - not 5 stars at all! Nobody told us why the elevator was broken, asking a staff member I got a shrug of the shoulders. Overall we quite liked our bedroom although the air con unit was huge, boxed in and fairly noisy. Getting any hot water in the bathroom was a nightmare. Let the water run for 5 minutes and it was just getting tepid. I never did get water hot enough for a proper shave. The balcony with a rocking chair was good and we enjoyed people watching from it. The valet parking was slick and friendly. Finally I would say consider carefully if the lack of facilities justifies around $1,000 a night!
Tourist hotel, five star prices

Great location on Fifth Avenue. Rooms are comfortable but feel a bit sterile. Definitely a 4* fit out but with 5* prices, no turndown service, no separate lounge and bar area. We asked to move room owing to the noise of the M&E plant room which can be heard across the pool area and apparently doesn't shut down at night. Front desk very kindly upgraded us to a larger, road facing room, which was much appreciated, otherwise the plant noise would have been a major negative. Shower pressure in the bathroom is so so and the automatic light is weird - as others have commented. The pool area is very relaxing, although, small point, it's self service setting yourself up with towels etc. There is free self parking across the road to the rear. The valet team were super helpful driving us to the beach and lending us chairs and an umbrella. From an over heard conversation, it seems that there have been quite a few staff comings and goings and it might not be the happiest ship at present? Ocean Prime restaurant was heaving with customers but we didn't have time to try it. Granted we stayed in the run up to Christmas but pricing was very expensive relative to the experience, for which it loses a notch on the overall rating. Could sorely do with some competition and an upgrade to the offer.
