Expensive Disappointment

flamommy72 (Fort Lauderdale, Florida) on Jun 12, 2025

We spent one night at this hotel in early June. We were at the end of a two week road trip where our only lodging choices were small inns with very limited services, we wanted to enjoy a full service hotel where we could get a good night's rest before our long three day drive home. We have had many wonderful stays at Marriott properties and were looking forward to our stay. We were very disappointed by the condition that our room was in. The porcelain in our tub was coming apart and there was very visible mold in the grout around the tub. Upon opening the curtains, we discovered very visible hand prints on the window that could and should have easily been removed by housekeeping as they were visible from across the room once the curtains were opened. Finally, there were two piles of tape on the wall where it looked like decorations of some kind had previously been hung. We went down to the front desk to ask if we could have another room given its condition. We were told there was a big convention at the hotel so there were no other rooms available but this room was not up to Marriott standards and the situation should be made right. We asked for a discount and were told by the front desk person that he could not do that but he instead offered free breakfast as well as Marriott points to put towards a future stay which we accepted. Two days after checkout, I had not seen any points posted to our account and we called the hotel. We were told on the phone that there was no record of points being awarded because we accepted breakfast. We strongly objected to this and were put on hold; after a few minutes, the hotel staff member came back on the line and told us we were being awarded 5,000 points. Considering that this hotel room was well in excess of $500 for the night, and that we had to call and argue to get the points applied, we were beyond disappointed with the small number of points. We understand that all rooms can't be kept in top condition all the time. If most hotel guests are attending a convention where employers are paying the exorbitant room rates, I could see the front desk not being motivated to do a whole lot to remedy the situation. But as leisure travelers visiting Halifax for the first time I really do wish that we had selected one of the other hotel choices nearby. The Marriott brand is not being upheld by this hotel and I will strongly consider other brands for future stays in other cities because our stay in Halifax was such an expensive disappointment.

A Marriott gem on the waterfront.

252tims (Hooksett, New Hampshire) on May 26, 2025

This Marriott was centrally located o the harbor. This modern, clean hotel was complemented by a courteous, professional and helpful staff. The room was ideally located facing the waterfront, neat, clean and comfortable. The M level was well provisioned for breakfast or a quick snack. The hotel restaurant is nicely located central to hotel activities. Located adjacent to the boardwalk and many historical sites as well as great restaurants. Definitely recommend.

The hotel had no reservations for us, despite the charges coming off our credit card. We felt scammed.

Definitely a 1. As I stated previously what was supposed to be a nice getaway turned into a ten hour drive. Their answer was take it up with your bank. Everyone was as unhelpful as they could be. It didn’t help that there were no suitable hotel rooms to be had in Halifax.

Thoroughly enjoyable stay.

Our first visit to Halifax and NS.....and what a welcome! We couldn't fault this hotel. Great room, and friendly helpful staff. Location is wonderful, we enjoyed getting to know Halifax and it was a great base to explore other parts of NS. Despite the pool being closed and a temporary concierge lounge, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. A special mention must be made of the delicious food in the fabulous restaurant. We were lucky that the menu changed midway through our stay so we ate there every night without repetition. Every dish was superb. The potted trout was amazing! We enjoyed chatting with Ingrid and Frank in the restaurant each night and Ingrid kept us entertained with lots of local info and magic tricks, we think she's fabulous! We really hope to return one day from Wales UK.

Hubby and i had planned my 70th bday overniter, hotel and casino back in March, got sick and had to rebook. Arrived at hotel, we were a tad early before check in, lady at the desk, think her name was Laura, but dont quote me, lol, was super friendly, tried to get us a room on second floor cause of going to the casino, got us a room on third floor. She was very helpful, said bout which elevator to take cause of where our room was, kinda got confused, got off on third floor so far away from our room, back down to front desk, then i understood which elevator to take. Room was very nice and clean, nice queen bed, had coffee machine, fridge Turned on tv, no sound. Called front desk, sent someone up to our room right away, easy fix. Had room service, the server was prompt and friendly. Would highly recommend this hotel.
