Just checked in, VERY disappointed, misled by front desk. Lifetime Titanium Elite member.

After a 16 hour day of travel, very excited to arrive in Halifax. Walked into the lobby of the Westin and it was lovely. However, things changed after that when we went to the desk. HUSBAND is a Marriott Bonvoy lifetime titanium elite member and world traveler. We were not thanked for our loyalty, as we normally are accustomed to at Marriott properties and we were not offered an upgrade, despite having put in a suite request. In fact, we were told the hotel was sold out which is why we could not get the Harborview or high floor we requested. I just went onto the Marriott Bonvoy app and could easily make a reservation for tonight in a variety of types of rooms. So, in fact, the hotel is not sold out and we were misled by front desk personnel. We realize suite requests are not always granted, which is fine, but certainly a harborview could have been provided. Original reservation was made April 30. The room we are in is very “dank“ – that is the best adjective I can use to describe it. Dusty, dark and the bed is extremely lumpy, sheets are scratchy. Smells very musty. Only 1 nightstand had a usable plug for charging. Good shower head. Extremely disappointed overall. We do not recommend this property.

Less than optimal for a Westin

Our visit to Westin started out poorly when we checked in and they gave us the wrong room (turned out the room was still unclean so imagine our discomfort when we opened the door and saw a mess). But anyone can make a mistake so no biggie. The room itself had a shabby old feel to it - the washroom was extremely small, room size average. There was no service to the room so essentially you had to make do although you could request a room cleanup. Wasn’t sure I wanted someone to go into the room though at this point. There were no amenities to speak of so had to call for a shower cap, plastic bag for dirty laundry, and more towels. And when I was checking out, I asked for a delayed checkup as my mtg wasn’t finished till 1130 hrs and after a bit of an argument, I got 15 minutes grace. Just couldn’t get out of there fast enough - checked out and went to another hotel with better upkeep and cleanliness.

Harbour views with access to 4km boardwalk

The staff truly shines at this hotel. Shout out to Akira at the front desk who was very accommodating and goes the extra mile. Also, Lee the concierge who’s service and great recommendations were point on even before arriving at the Westin. To Eli & taxi service to/from airport. Thank you to all the staff and all the kindness during my 3 day stay. Beautiful smiles and Maritime warmth and friendliness. This location is awesome. Close to everything from the boardwalk, pier 21 and the large grocery store, within sight of the hotel. (FYI, there is a Starbucks inside this grocery store) Woke up to a sunrise and harbour view each morning. Request a harbour view! Sunrise is gorgeous on a sunny day. Bed was comfy and I loved the pillows. I have to purchase these pillows!!! Just an awesome stay. Was going to stay at the Marriott on the other end of the boardwalk but so happy that I decided to stay here. Will be back at the Westin, next time I visit beautiful Halifax!

Three nights stay

Reception staff very helpful and moved our room away from lifts and to higher floor. Room clean and bed comfortable. Room was clean when we arrived, but had to ask for replenishment of tea and coffee as they did not have a daily service of the room. Presumably citing covid but it is no excuse when they offer valet parking, and all other services working normally, suggest it is costs saving exercise. Would have given higher rating otherwise.

We paid to have our vehicle parked, only to find staff is moving it at will. We are very uncomfortable with the fact that the vehicle had been moved or did someone take it for a joyride. We spoke to the manager and her response was "oh well, that happens". Upon arrival I notified the front desk that the telephone did not work, and it was 3 days later it was finally repaired. The first night the blind fell on my head while trying to close it. Considering the price charged, the Westin Nova Scotian is certainly not value for your hard earned dollar.
