Great Location, service?

Alfred S (Whitehaven, United Kingdom) on Jul 04, 2022

This is well located on the lake shore with a marina. The hotel Eldorado is part of the larger Eldorado Hotel complex. We arrived and difficult to park. No one at reception had to go into a nearby office to be told he will be back soon. When reception did arrive it was a slow and cumbersome process with the computers and card readers not wishing to talk to each other. Our room was a lakeland view suite, this in the extension to the original hotel. The hotel was great, large, comfortable, quiet and great views of the lake. When we went to check out the following morning little sign says hotel reception closed please go to the nearby Eldorado Resort to check out. Not really what you expect in a hotel at this price. Would we stay again, probably not.

Not pet friendly as advertised

Gary S (North Vancouver, Canada) on Jun 22, 2022

Be aware that if you have a pet, you will NOT get the room you booked, in our case an upper floor with balcony. Their pet designated rooms are different, 2nd floor, no balconies! We were not told that upfront. When we called ahead to confirm that we would have the room we booked, we were told no, but we could upgrade to another room, 2nd floor, still no balcony, for move than $100 per night extra. The front desk person, Nav, was not at all apologetic or helpful and his tone was quite condescending. He informed us that the reservation small print stated, “depending on availability”, as though that was sufficient explanation. Take it or leave it was his attitude. We cancelled the reservation.

The worst hotel stay I've ever experienced.

Voyage791387 on Jun 21, 2022

My wife and I just stayed here this past weekend. We were put in a room RIGHT above a wedding reception that was taking place. We were not part of this wedding. There was loud music and partying happening at least until 1am. I get this is a great location for a wedding but it would have been nice to know what were were getting into when we reserved. We hardly slept, reception was not readily available. It was meant for us to get away and relax and actually have a restful sleep. This did not happen at all. I'm very disappointed. What a waste of $600 for the night. I left a survey and was not contacted after the fact. Terrible experience and terrible customer service. I will not stay here again, plain and simple.

Horrible service!

L0stintranslati0nx2 on Jun 02, 2022

Never in my life have I experience such disrespect checking into a hotel. The amount of inconsistencies with this organization makes me wonder if they have someone finger painting the bookings in the back office. I called and made my reservations a week in advance, asking for an early check in willing to pay more as I had a wedding starting at 3pm. I was assured the room would be ready by 1pm. Upon arriving at 2pm to check it I was told the room was not available. ( they just clean all the rooms in the last hour). I was told I could upgrade my room for an additional 150 dollars. I figured $540 was enough to pay for a room I was only going to see after the wedding (2am till 11am). I asked if I could perform the check in requirements ( credit card for DD, blah blah) in the afternoon rather than dealing with that at 2am. Was it that was impossible as they may change my room. Would have been great if they changed my room to one available so I didn’t want to go get ready and put my suit on in a public washroom. I wasn’t going to let this ruin my weekend. I was assured there was staff on 24/7 so I wouldn’t have an issue checking in after the wedding. Came back to hotel after the wedding to wait at the desk for 37mins before staff arrived to check me in. At this time the attendant told me I was being charged a “no show fee” and I had to pay for an additional fee. Flabbergasted as I had been there earlier in the day I told him I’ll deal with that at check out as I was told there was no manager on staff. In the morning upon check out there was a note saying outstanding fee needing to be paid due to “no show”. Thankfully the morning staff recognized me from the day before, but had to get the manager to address clearing the fee. At that time I attempted to tell the manager about my experience. Rather then an apology or anything addressing I was said I was told “ we’ve had complaints about that staff member before” For the price you pay for the accommodations I would expect some professionally. I would not recommend this hotel to my worst enemy.

Restaurant and Whisky bar were fabulous! Room and guest services...meh

CJKEATS (Abbotsford, Canada) on May 26, 2022

The Lakeside Dining Room and whisky bar/lounge were fabulous! Vinny and all the servers were amazing! However.... We paid $429 for a 'Heritage Lake View Queen' room which, according to their website offers one Queen Bed, featuring picturesque lake views, and a private balcony. We also added 120 for one of the enhancements (silver). Room was clean and bed was comfortable enough, but it had a 3.5 ft wide balcony that looked out over the plastic roofs of the bar and restaurant and further down construction and other hotels. You could see the lake only if you stood up from the metal bistro table and chair set that was there (also not very comfortable), and if you ignored the roof soffit that angled down beside you. From the description on website I expected an actual full-on view of the lake. Certainly not worth 429. For the enhancement I had also emailed after my reservation was confirmed, advising if the hotel had any personalization they could apply, (like a card or something) they could say Happy 40th anniversary. No response to that. On the day of our check-in, the front desk called while I was driving up and said they wanted to make sure I had asked for the enhancement because there was only a note but it wasn't on the reservation, (which it was because I had a copy of the confirmation which showed 120 clear as day). Then I was charged 157.08, on my visa immediately, which I was not expecting until checkout, and had to transfer money to make sure I would not be over-limit with the room and dining we were planning. Other than on very tiny print on the detailed PDF of the amenity packages, there is no information about the extra cost in the form of taxes and gratuity fee (which totaled additional 37.08 = +31%). Plus, when asked for an explanation at the end of our stay, the front desk people said it was "a delivery fee or something like that", and that explanation was advised only after a call to at least 3 other people to find out why the charges. I understand there are staff shortages in the hotel industry; however, when we came to check out, there was a sign at the front of the EL lobby saying we had to check out at the Manteo, the main property next door. Fair enough, except, I have hip problems awaiting surgery and walking is difficult. Due to ongoing construction on the access road (Cook), we were unable to make the necessary left turns to drive to the next door hotel, so I walked what I would say is approximately a block and a half [one way], to the great detriment later for my hip and back. Since the construction was a known factor, perhaps some accommodation could have been provided, I don't know, a golf cart made available? There seemed to be 2 or 3 people on or around at the Manteo desk; perhaps for check out times, one could have been spared for the EL.
