Decent hotel but could be better

Herbert J (Detroit, Michigan) on Aug 17, 2026

Overall was a satisfactory stay. The elevators were slow, we had no hot water in the shower, and there were hairs on the bathroom floor and side of tub. You do have to be aware of your surroundings when venturing outside the hotel, but I never felt unsafe. There is a Starbucks onsite and I also ate at the restaurant in the hotel which was good. The staff was friendly. It was also very easy to get an Uber or Lyft from the hotel. If I ever needed to stay in this location again, I would stay at this hotel.

Needs Operations TLC

TripGalSeattle (Seattle, Washington) on Jul 25, 2026

A night or 2 is ok, but overall needs a lot of TLC. Operations needs to read. Best part: bed. Super comfortable. Room was neat but definitely not “cleaned.” Piece of broken glass found in carpet and dirt / grime in parts of room. Shower impossible to turn on without getting wet as can’t turn on from faucet side. Upper floor but still could hear sirens and car alarms every couple of hours overnight. One of the mornings the odor by the window was over powering with a sewage smell - not sure if it was outside or bad plumbing from room above? Layout between lobby, restaurant, elevators and Starbucks was odd and confusing. First floor was dank and dark which was unexpected for sunny CA. Area surrounding hotel was definitely sketchy. Lots of homeless tents along Los Angeles Street. Staff was cordial. Food not great for price. I wanted to like this hotel I really did but just too much was off about it.

Perfect Home Base for Anime Expo — Don't Let the Negative Reviews Scare You!

Nicole M (Los Angeles, California) on Jul 23, 2026

I stayed at the DoubleTree Downtown LA from July 1st through July 5th for Anime Expo, and I couldn't have been happier with the experience. I know some people have left bad reviews lately regarding the check-in process and customer service, but my experience was the complete opposite. Our check-in went incredibly smoothly, setting a great tone for a busy weekend. When we first got to our room, we noticed the mini-fridge was making a weird noise. I called the front desk, and they had maintenance up to replace it within 20 minutes! Later in the trip, I found myself in need of some Band-Aids; I called down again, and they happily brought some right up to my room. The service was fantastic across the board. The hotel itself, including our room, was very clean. Yes, the furniture is a little dated, but honestly, that is to be expected and didn't take away from our stay at all. We also hit up the breakfast buffet, which was great. Every employee we interacted with working the breakfast service was incredibly warm and friendly. Finally, you can't beat this location. Being right next to Little Tokyo was a lifesaver. We had endless dining options, fun shops to explore, and easy access to local stores to grab convention supplies. Overall, we had a fantastic stay. It was such a great experience that we’ve actually already booked our room here for next year's con! Highly recommend.

Good value and service, but need a facelift

StevenJohnShi (Cambridge, United Kingdom) on Jul 22, 2026

My second visit here, can't believe the last time was 2019. The location, service (especially the housekeeping), view, and value were fantastic. However, the hotel needs urgent refurbishment. I received a free upgrade from standard room to a garden view room, and I topped that up with a paid upgrade to a one bedroom suite (with only $40 per night). Came with my Hilton status was $18 per person per night food and beverage credit, which I used to snacks (outrageously priced but it's a hotel lobby shop) and breakfast. Breakfast was decent but not something I would regret missing. Reasonably priced with the credit, but otherwise fairly pricey. I do miss the days when loyalty buys one free breakfast in Hilton's US properties. The downside of the hotel is its incredibly dated interior. I don't believe anything had changed in the intervening 7 years since my last visit, and it was dated even then. This downside notwithstanding, this is a hotel worth staying in DTLA for its exceptional value and friendly service.

Great Location, Friendly Staff, Nice Rooftop Garden

AlwaysTraveling65 (Green Bay, Wisconsin) on May 31, 2026

This was a perfect location for me. I was on a 3 week first time Amtrak Adventure. This was close to the train station. It was also walking distance to several museum and the Olvera Market. The hotel has a nice rooftop garden. As a gold member I got a F&B credit that basically covered my dinner. Jennifer at check in was very friendly and accommodating and Jose was very quick to help with luggage and additional questions I had about area and directions for places I wanted to visit.
