We have visited 5 all-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean so far (two on Jamaica, one each at Punta Cana, DR and Antigua and most recently, Secrets Wild Orchid on Montego Bay. Unfortunately, this last resort left something to be desired. In short, maintenance on this facility is lacking and service leaves something to be desired.
Secrets Wild Orchid shares facilities with Secrets St. James Club, 2 Preferred clubs and the Breathless Resort. The Wild Orchid and St. James building are 5 stories tall with the only one set of customer elevators located away from the beach. There are several interesting restaurants and the grounds are attractively landscaped. However, routine maintenance of the grounds is lacking . Tropical foliage routinely sheds and need almost daily cleanup. Not at this resort.
As soon as we entered the reception area, we noticed the chipped paint and rusted surface on the reception desk. The information we received at check-in regarding the tennis facility was incomplete; we were not told that the one tennis court had to be reserved nor were we told about the M-W-F morning tennis clinic. The surface of the tennis court is deteriorating. We were not given orientation of the room when we arrived which was done at the other resorts and it took a while to figure out all the switches and features. The only orientation we received to the property was a small, confusing and out of date map.
Our first experience with room service resulted in a wrong entree. We heard from other guests that they ordered room service which never came. Often, the maids did not have fresh bath towels when they made up the room; they usually remembered to bring them later.
When we arrived the door latch to our balcony would fall out of the door and thermostat could not be adjusted. Maintenance repaired the door latch after we called, but their response to the thermostat was to turn off the AC if we were cold. During our two weeks, the flush valve on the toilet would frequently jam and continue to run until released. It was never repaired even though I was there when the main called it into maintenance.
Ordering drinks at the beach and pool bar was always an adventure. The recipes and glasses for the same drinks would vary considerably. Late in the afternoon you may have to wait for clean glasses or choice a different drink because they have run out of ingredients.
We learned our first full day that Wild Orchid and St, James does not have enough beach chairs and umbrellas. Consequently, Wild Orchid and St. James guests must pick up towels, generally before 6:30 in the morning and reserve beach along the beach and around the pools. And guests are not restricted from bringing their own speakers to the beach, so most days we were subjected to someone else’s choice of music. In mid to late afternoon, the resort entertainment team would crank up some island music around the pool for the entire hotel to hear. These facilities are popular as wedding venues and corporate bonus parties. On those evening we were treated to loud music until 10:00 PM.
The dinner menus were unique and not the normal recipes you would expect coming from the United States. The oriental restaurant includes a hibachi dinner (reservations required) accompanied by loud chefs. Their Pad Thai was unique – instead of Asian rice noodles, it was prepared with linguine. The breakfast buffet is well stocked put you have to wait for the hostess to assign you to a table. The inefficiency in which they clear, clean and reset the tables can be frustrating and was a frequent topic of conversation. In summary it is a beautiful facility if you can be patient with the service.

Rooms are ok, found the staff very friendly. Towel game played, no where to lounge, unless you get up at 7:00. Very small beach.
The absolute worst food, and long wait time, especially at breakfast. Hyatt should be ashamed.
Be careful of timeshare, they try to entice you with $300 coupons, then you need to attend a presentation, they advise you to bring ID and credit card, okay sure. I was aware of this, prior to checking in.

Read a few reviews before travelling and some were a bit negative one was potentially dangerous as they mentioned being drugged by resort, so I arrived a little anxious to say the least as a solo traveller. However I need not have worried as everything was lovely. Firstly a few things that could improve, some areas of hotel need a little TLC eg wooden floors at poolside bar definitely need replacing in parts, my room was not ready on arrival despite arriving an hour after check in however Victor arranged a glass of champagne and a cold cloth to cool me down and took me to nearest restaurant for a leisurely lunch. When I got to my room it was lovely very spacious and clean and the bed was biggest I’ve seen, a cheese platter plus red wine was waiting for me. Bathroom was well stocked with lovely spa toiletries, sun screen and mosquito spray included and they were replenished during my stay. Room was cleaned every day with no complaints. Mini bar fully stocked with beer and soft drinks replenished daily. Buffet options for breakfast and lunch were wonderful every dietary option catered for with huge choice even the fussiest of eaters would find plenty to choose from . Plenty of beach towels available however if you didn’t reserve your sun bed by 7.30 am you be disappointed. The beach area was much quieter than pool area and I preferred it. Plenty of lively daytime entertainment that at times was a little bit 18/30 Ibiza for my liking but no one is forced to join in. I thought the resort was fabulous and some of the previous negative feedback unfair , I will definitely return

I had read some of the negative reviews about the place, but we tried it anyway. I am not sure why anyone would rate this resort anything but excellent, and we usually stay at 5 star resorts.
The property is absolutely magnificent! The staff is so friendly and helpful- we wanted for nothing. There was never a wait at any restaurant nor was there a problem getting a lounge at either the beach or pool. The place is super clean and the room was very nice.
The waiter at the beach checks don our drinks every 20 minutes or so. We never had to wait for a cocktail!
The breakfast buffet was excellent, and lunch was very good. As far as dinner, I would give it a 7/10. Avoid the Italian restaurant unless you have never had real Italian. The best was the Jamaican and Hibachi restaurants.
Plenty of shopping for everything you could think of right on the property.

From the moment we arrived we had the pleasure of meeting Denise and Nebraska at the front desk. They were wonderful and made an effort to accompdate our room request. We had a beautiful ocean front room.
My day started early so getting lounges at either the pool or beach was no problem. Then off i went to yoga with Lana. Great way to start the day. The entertainment staff was so energetic. Thank you King Julien, Tjay, Delicious, Trixy and kay Kay. You kept us active all afternoon long. There really wasn't many good shows in the evening.
Breakfast and lunch at the buffet were excellent with so many choices to pick from. The coffee bar was well staffed with lots of flavors to choose from.
Dinners were fine, The French restaurant was our favorite for the food and service were outstanding.
We look forward to returning.
