Good resort, amazing beach.

nancybr0ek (Calgary, Canada) on Apr 13, 2024

My husband and I came with our 3 teens at the beginning of April. Overall we had a good time here and there were many things we liked: keyless room entry attached to the wrist band, filtered water to refill bottles on each floor, absolutely beautiful long beach, teens loved the pool and the temperature, big waves for boogie boarding and sandy bottom, sunset patio and bar, good location of amenities on the resort, rifle shooting and archery, clean bathrooms, availability of food thru the day, mariachi band in the evening x2, great pool/entertainment staff, easy to get everywhere on resort, tennis, the open air lobby, and soft serve ice cream at the bar by the pool. Unfortunately about 5 days into our trip my son and I both got quite sick (gastrointestinal stuff) and this really impacted 3-4 days out of our 9 day trip. This is the first time this has happened to us in the 5-6 times we’ve been to all inclusives in Mexico. A few overall suggestions I have would be: to have hand sanitizer stations at all of the buffets and snack places ( there was none anywhere except near the bathroom of the main buffet). I always had my own but given the number of people handling serving spoons etc., it’s just good basic hygiene practice that should be available and encouraged for all. Servers around the pool and in buffets seemed short all the time, evening entertainment wasn’t great but we aren’t really into that anyway. The meal in the ‘train restaurant’ was not good. Would have liked the beach volleyball net to be left up all the time rather than just an hour a day. We’re giving this resort a 4 out of 5 but don’t think we’d return.

Fun stay in Puerto Vallarta

Ruben Z on Apr 07, 2024

Visited this resort last week with family (wife & 2 kids). Overall, I would say this was the best resort I've been to so far. I don't even have any real complains just some small annoyances. I'll start with the pros: 1. Food was great. Lots of options and everything looked nice and fresh. Previously I never had salads in Mexico because they always looked dated. Here all the salads were fresh looking and delicious. 2. Alcohol was great. At some other places I've been to I've often see them mix drinks from unlabeled bottles and you couldn't even tell what you were getting. Here all drinks came from actual alcohol bottles, so the drinks were proper. 3. Beach was nice, wide and private. Not many hagglers on the beach as I think it's pretty hard for them to get there. 4. Lots of pool activities. 5. Kids club was fun for my 9-year-old and there were lots of activities for her. My son who is six years old didn't like his group that much but that's just because he mostly wanted to be with us. 7. Last but not least, Wi-Fi speed was absolutely FANTASTIC. I never had a dead spot anywhere. I could literally go on the beach and stream a 1080p soccer match. I've never before had good internet in any resort, especially in Mexico. This place had it done right. Cons: 1. Shower cabin had no door so after one person would take a shower pretty much the entire bathroom would be wet. This wasn't just our complaint as everyone we met at the resort told us the same thing. Not super bad just annoying. Seems like this could be easily fixed by installing shower curtains. 2. Pool water was cold. I think this was the coldest pool I've ever been to in Mexico. Ocean water was warmer. This was probably the most annoying thing. That's pretty much all the cons I could think of. Another funny thing, not a con but something to know. If you reserve dinner at the Japanese restaurant and then decide not to show up at the last minute, they will charge you a fine. Kind of hilarious to be charged a fine at an all-inclusive hotel where food is free. We were about to skip on our reservation until we read the fine print, so we went ahead anyway and glad we did since it was a great experience.

Great resort, exceptional staff.

We just finished a week-long holiday with our 3 teenagers at this resort and had a great time. The layout is great, especially the pool and beach area, and there are so many activities that kept the teens busy and active. The beach always has room to set up a chair and umbrella, and the employees go out of their way to help you. There is a lifeguard on duty and nearby equipment rentals if you want to rent a boogie board or jet ski. Best of all though are the staff, friendly and engaging. Special shout outs to Fabian and Fernando who work tirelessly to provide entertainment and activities. This is our second family trip to Mexico (from Canada) and I think we might come back to this place again because they provided everything we could hope for. I highly recommend this resort.

Another Enjoyable Return.

John W (Sherwood Park, Canada) on Mar 23, 2024

My wife and I, both seniors, spent 12 days here in early March. It was the fifth time we have been here over the years it has been open, our first being in 2015. We find it interesting in comparing it, not just with the other resorts we have been to, but to itself with the changes made over the years. It is one of the most beautiful resorts we have been to in so many ways, the view of the bay from the Sunset bar, the beach itself and then, the beautiful well tended garden area between the wings of the hotel. The major reason for our return this year however, was not just the above, but due to my wife presently having mobility issues, even 1 step presents issues. We knew how well it is organized for those who are mobility challenged. The whole time we were there my wife was able to avoid stairs. Everywhere is accessible by elevators or ramps. This even includes the pool which has a gentle walk in slope. This was really appreciated. Changes since our last visit. Your room key is now your wristband. This was very convenient. No worries about making sure you took it with you or losing it. It was completely waterproof, though it did have to be reprogrammed once after a week, quick and painless. The A la Carte restaurants were gradually being switched over to no reservation while we were there. When we left only the Japanese still required a reservation. We went to all of them and never had to wait to be seated, though we are early diners so are unaware as to whether this was the case all evening. It should be noted that the restaurant hours shown on the app cannot always be relied on. We went to the steak restaurant at the 6pm opening shown on the app, only to find a sign in front saying Closed. Open at 6:30pm. We found the food generally good for an all inclusive, but could be a little inconsistent. I raved over the steak I had one night, only to return a few nights later and found the same thing pretty ordinary. The buffet had a wide variety of food, no reason for anyone not to find something, though most was of normal, good buffet standard. I had mentioned in my last review that the overall standards of food service had gone down compared to previous visits. This has been rectified. The service was uniformly good, quick, efficient and friendly. We miss the menus at the bars saying what drinks are available. Mexican Night has changed from games, stalls and mariachi in the lobby area, into numerous booths serving different Mexican foods on the seafront events deck. I imagine this would be nowhere near as enjoyable for families with children, but very interesting to foodies. The evening entertainment seemed to have gone down a notch overall, but the Circus Show at the seafront and the indigenous dancing were spectacular. The latter deserved a much better venue than the lobby, where there were few places to sit and poor sight lines. Some reviewers have mentioned the construction next door. It is certainly happening. However, other than watching the large crane do it’s job, it didn’t intrude on our stay. Certainly we never heard large noises such as constant pile drivers mentioned by one reviewer. The pool remains unheated. However, other than a cold feeling as you went in, it was perfectly acceptable. It certainly didn’t seem to bother the patrons of the swim up bar. However, tiles are coming loose in areas and we daily saw workmen in the pool trying to replace them. The beach was gorgeous as always, we were well looked after as far as umbrellas etc. and drinks. It is like another world down there, with its own food, bar and restrooms. The room was very clean and was cleaned daily very efficiently, though I agree with other reviewers that the decor is beginning to look tired. The in room fridge was replenished daily with pop and beer. I wondered when read reviews about the lack of small water bottles and the provision of two large refillable bottles in the room with refill stations in the hallway, how that would work. I was surprised how convenient we found it. Make sure you bring your own refillable water bottles and it will work very well. There were many activities provided by the entertainment team, but I will leave comments about them to other reviewers as we seldom took part in them. As I mentioned, the service by all staff was excellent, but I particularly want to acknowledge Cinthia in the buffet, always pleasant and efficient in her service and Estovan from the entertainment team, who, although we were seldom taking part in the activities provided, checked on us at least daily as to how we were enjoying our stay. In conclusion, Iberostar Playa Mita provided just what we wanted for our vacation, a relaxing, stress free escape from our Canadian winter. Hopefully we will return again sometime in the future.
