Good resort but make sure you get the room you want.

Darla D (Calgary, Canada) on Feb 04, 2025

This is an overall great resort but improvements could be made with the front desk staff. We had the same issue as a lot of others and were given a below standard room which also had no hot water. We asked to change but kept being asked to come back tomorrow and it seemed like most who changed rooms were given even worse rooms. We loved the pool beach and sky bar are amazing and overall has a great trip but it would have been amazing to have had slight better service at check in and check out. Also one thing to be aware of is if you book solely through Expedia and not through an Airline package you will be forced to cut off your bracelets even though you may not be leaving until later in the day. Unless you want to pay $25 USD extra. This hotel could have return clients and more business if they could be upfront and more professional. We would go back but only if we could guarantee and ocean view room. We had amazing service from the bar staff and restaurant waiters.

Good food BAD pool area!

Overall this property was great. There seemed to be a consistent problem with rooms at check in. Many guests including us were given older room that were nothing like the description or pictures of the property that we booked. However the guest services manager (Jenna?) was over the top in trying to find a suitable solution for us. She was AMAZING with us throughout our stay. There is a HUGE problem with pool chairs being held at 6am and no one using them until well after lunch sometime. so if you don't get up early and play the chair game , plan on not using the pool area that day. But for us these are minor things that are NOT going to ruin a beautiful holiday in the sun! Positive things.... the resort is clean, for us the food was fantastic everywhere we ate, and they do have great food options for a smaller size resort. And the Sky bar at the top is beautiful place to relax in the evenings. The property location is excellent. Walking distance or short Uber ride to everything. So a BIG yes! I would and will come back to this resort again.

So, so.

Puerto Vallarta itself, is amazing! But if you're someone who wants to hang out at the resort, I'm not sure this would be a good fit. We didn't have hot water for the first 4 days of our trip (weren't offered any kind of compensation, whatsoever), the lobby sucked us into a timeshare "presentation" for asking about excursions our 2nd day (we didn't even know if we liked it yet), the food was ok at the buffet but after a week it started getting redundant, the one restaurant was ok as well but took a while to get any food, the room itself was underwhelming as it had nothing in it (not even blankets), and we noticed the beach infront had rougher sand than infront of other hotels (also you can't just go into the ocean as there's a big drop, not like the other hotels). On a brighter note, the staff were great! The other guests we met were awesome! The resident iguana, poncho, was on point! So if you can get a deal and don't plan on actually staying much, it would probably be great as well.

The good and the bad

Shari56 (Victoria, Canada) on Feb 01, 2025

Very mixed experience at this hotel. Most of the staff were very friendly and helpful. We had lovely service from the restaurant staff and thoroughly enjoyed our meals there. The building, unfortunately, has seen better days. Hot water was a major problem during our visit. Other guests we talked to had similar complaints. This seems to be an ongoing problem that front desk and maintenance staff were well aware of. After 4 days of NO hot water, we got a new room. Couple good days, then alternating cold and hot in the shower. There was no meaningful compensation for all the time and inconvenience this caused us. I realize that these are first world problems, but if they want to compete in this market, they should fix the problem and not give rooms to guests in the affected areas in the meantime.

Above Average Middle Of The Road Resort, Good Value.

oldtimer630_0 (Dawson Creek, Canada) on Jan 26, 2025

Just returned from 10 days here, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We stayed in a 1 Bedroom Suite number 1200 on the 4th floor, and had a partial Ocean View from the large patio/balcony. There were some signs of wear and tear as expected, afterall this is not a new hotel, but our room was kept spotlessly clean. We chose a King Size Bed, which was very comfortable, and there was ample storage space for all our belongings. the pools were enjoyed by our entire group, and the service at poolside was always prompt. Food always plays a large role in our level of satisfaction at any all-inclusive we've stayed at, and our group found the overall quality and variety to be well above average. A special shoutout to our "Egg Lady" Lucy, who has mastered the art of Omelet making, and always has a warm smile awaiting her hungry breakfast diners. All the wait staff we encountered were giving their best at all times, however, Pancho and Paula stood out as exceptional. In summation, our group all agreed,They Try Hard we wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Plaza Pelicanos Grand to anyone looking for a middle of the road Oceanside Resort.
