This was a great vacation! Truly relaxing! No stress. The resort is beautiful and the beach is stunning. Staff was lovely! Yerissa at concierge was amazingly helpful! Lots of food choices even for gluten free people like me:) Will definitely return!

Mixed Experience At Melia Caribe Beach Resort - Some Highs, Many Lows

Noah0004 on Feb 06, 2025

Our family of nine stayed at Melia Caribe Beach Resort from November 11th to November 18th, 2024, and while we had some great memories, there were several frustrating issues that made our stay less enjoyable than expected. CHECK-IN & ROOM ISSUES We arrived at the resort at approximately 1:00 PM, but check-in was an absolute nightmare. The first room assigned to my mom, my brother and myself was already occupied-apparently, it didn't show as taken in their system. So we had to go back to the lobby, where Jorge reassigned us to another room. However, the second room turned out to be my grandma's room, which had only one king bed instead of our expected setup. Once we realized the mistake, we had to take the trolley back to the lobby and unload all our luggage again, and at this point, my mom was furious. After all the back and forth in the rain & multiple delays, Jorge finally gave us the correct room the one we had originally booked with two single beds and bunk beds. This is our third attempt, making for a frustrating and exhausting start to our trip. RESERVATION ISSUES & DINING EXPERIENCE The reservation process for the a la carte restaurants was another major disappointment. The reservationists at the front of the Mexican Restaurant told us that every single restaurant was fully booked until our last full day (Sunday, November 17th). My mom even emailed the resort in advance to secure our reservations but never got a response. Thankfully, Natalia at guest services came to our rescue. She was incredibly helpful and was able to book us into Rosso (the Italian Restaurant) on my birthday, November 12th. Ironically, I have video evidence of the restaurant being nearly empty that night, making us question why were originally told everything was full. Even when we offered to split our party up, the reservationists refused to accommodate us. Natalia went above and beyond again the next day (November 13th) by organizing a special chef's Dinner at Merkado for our entire group. It was an amazing experience, and the food was absolutely delicious. The best meals we had at the resort were Rosso, Special Dinner at Merkado, and the Mexican Restaurant on Sunday. The burgers were also quite good. RESORT GROUNDS & TRANSPORTATION The resort itself is massive, but the trolley system was completely unreliable. The trolleys would pick up anyone, regardless of Whether they were level guests or not, which means they were often full. (The resort has two, one for level and one for non level both trolleys were picking up all guests) Which meant they were often full. We sometimes had to call the front desk to request a trolley to pick us up or we would have been late for dinner. Our building (27) was quite far from the main lobby, making this an ongoing issue. Additionally, we noticed the golf carts marked "Circle by Melia" Were picking up anyone who needed a ride, which was helpful given how inconsistent the trolley service was. FOOD AND DINING 1.) Merkado's dinner and lunch options were often lukewarm or cold, which was disappointing. 2.) Rumba was closed on Monday when we arrived due to an event, adding to our frustration. We ended up having most of our breakfasts and dinners at Rumba because it was closest to our building. ROOM & HOUSEKEEPING ISSUES 1.) Our bathroom fan didn't work. 2.) My grandma's mini-bar was not functioning, and despite multiple calls, it wasn't fixed until either Wednesday or Thursday. 3.) Housekeeping was inconsistent- we often didn't receive fresh towels, and sometimes, it would be as late as 3:00-4:00 PM before they arrived. 4.) Our mini-bar was not restocked properly, and by the end of some days, we had no bottled water left in the room. ENTERTAINMENT - THE HIGHLIGHT OF OUR STAY! One of the best parts of our trip was nightly entertainment. The shows were absolutely amazing! 1.) The Michael Jackson show was incredible- the performers did a fantastic job. 2.) The Rock Show was also amazing, full of great energy and music. 3.) The White Party was so much fun and had a great atmosphere. 4.) The Magic Show was also very entertaining and a great experience for everyone. 5.) The Dominicano Show was amazing and fun as well. OTHER ISSUES Because of the frequent rain, the walkways from our building to the lobby were completely flooded. The resort needs a better drainage system to handle water overflow. The pool was enjoyable, and the beach was fantastic. I played beach volleyball for the first time, which was a highlight of my trip. Ronny in entertainment, was amazing and really made our experience better. FINAL THOUGHTS While we had some great memories, especially thanks to Natalia and the amazing nightly entertainment, the numerous issues we encountered- from check-in chaos (handled poorly by Jorge) to reservation dishonesty and poor transportation made our experience less than ideal. Unfortunately, due to all these frustrations, we would not return to this resort. Would I recommend it? Maybe, but with strong caution.

Avoid at all costs.

The worst holiday I’ve ever been on!! After reading negative reviews I was annoyed and off put. I didn’t want to let them ruin my vacation and we totally went with an open mind wanting to prove them wrong. Sadly, this was not the case. I’ll start with the only positive. The grounds are beautiful & well maintained. We booked x2 level suites next to each other. When we arrived we were assured they were next door. One room was able to check in early. The latter waited by the pool and then checked in a few hours later. They knocked on their neighbours door assuming it was us. We were four buildings apart. Concierge even guaranteed we were neighbours when the second room checked in. Absolute lies. The only time we saw our concierge was when we checked in. Absolute waste of money. One of the rooms had a leak through the light fitting into the main bathroom & bedroom. We couldn’t even be bothered to complain about it as no one took any interest. On day 2, three of our group got food poisoning which wiped us out for 4 whole days of our 9 day vacation. One member was hospitalised over night in a local hospital where it was confirmed food poisoning. I had to get a taxi to a nearby supermarket to get food to last us. Absolutely nothing was maintained at the correct temperature at the buffets and we saw some shocking hygiene practices. At the level snack bar the the pool, the ‘chef’ wore the same gloves to pick up a raw burger, place it on the grill, pick up the burger bun & put onions etc on. The same gloves to pass the plate to the customer. There wasn’t even hand washing facilities for him to was his hands if he wanted to. We were totally appalled. Cape Nao served us raw chicken and when we asked to see the restaurant manager he was apologetic but didn’t seem too concerned. Raw to the point that it was still bleeding. The Level is advertised as a five star experience - I would say it’s 3 star AT BEST. I highly recommend you reconsider if you’re going to book here.
