We stayed at the Level at Melia Caribe and had an amazing time. The food, service, and location were great. Our concierge Eddiana Cuevas was wonderful. She helped make our stay enjoyable and even set up a birthday surprise for our daughter. The beach was beautiful. Overall a fantastic resort!

The staff is friendly and very helpful, especially our butler Nathaniel Diaz, who made sure we had dinner reservations each night, what we needed in our room, rides around the resort when we needed, dinner by the pool, and decorating our room for my husbands birthday. All the staff was very accommodating and attentive. The resort was beautiful and our room was comfortable.
Would do it again!

We really enjoyed our stay at the Melia Caribe. After reading reviews, we decided to pay for the Level and it was very worth it!! We were in building 51, so right beside the private (and much quieter) Level pool, bar, and restaurant (Riviera). Our concierge was Nathanael and he is AMAZING!! When we arrived he asked us if it was our first time to the DR (it was) and if we were celebrating a special occasion (yes, our 40th birthdays). He surprised us by decorating our suite while we were at the beach, a bottle of champagne, and that night they sang happy birthday to us at the a la carte and gave us a REALLY good chocolate cake (it was the best dessert the whole week). Nathanael would check in with us every morning on What's App or in person in the lobby to see how our night was, do we need anything else in our room, where do you want to eat tonight... etc. His English is superb and he is very kind. We lucked out with him!!! highly recommend!!! He booked us a different A La Carte every night so we got to try them all.
Here is my breakdown: The Resort grounds -are a tropical paradise. We walked through the adjoining Wellness Adult Only resort grounds as well, got lots of steps in, kilometers for walking if you want to! There is also the shuttle (I only took once) or lots of golf carts zooming around and they will offer you a lift if you need it. It was a 9-10 minute walk to the ocean from our room. We saw the occasional litter but it was cleaned up the next day. Gardeners are out daily grooming trees or pulling weeds, it looked great.
The beach- they have a tractor and seaweed cleaner machine that they use several times a day... We walked the beach daily and found this resort's beach to be the cleanest and best maintained by far!!! There is a ton of activities on the beach if you are in to that... parasailing, the floating obstacle course, banana boat, hobie cat... you name it. We mostly wanted to lounge in the sun and cool off in the water. There was seaweed in the water sometimes as it was always wavy. There is a constant stream of vendors going by you all day long, but they are very respectful if you are not interested. Just be warned that any little conversation with anyone ALWAYS leads to a sales pitch.
The Weather- started our 22 degrees C and would be 28 all afternoon but always windy and wavy. The wind felt nice because the sun is so hot. We had several sprinkle showers and one nighttime downpour but they supplied a big umbrella in our room in the Level.
The Restaurants- We always had breakfast in Riviera, it opens at 7 and has a big variety of foods and much quieter the the Merkado. We avoided that buffet. We ate our lunch at Cape Neo at the beach but expect to wait a bit longer there... decent burgers. The bar tenders there are great too. Our favorite was the Japanese Hokkaida, we did not pay the $60 upgrade but still had great food, sushi, a stir fry, Salmon and Beef. I loved the Italian Tartufo... recommend the Margarita Pizza. Had a long wait in Capri (meal took 2 hours and did not get to pick dessert from the menu) but nice ambiance. All the food was good, just remember you are in the DR - not Mexico- so you are not getting gourmet but definitely decent.
Drinks- Some drinks were strong and some definitely watered down so we would ask for doubles usually. The pina colada mix is tasty but more runny then icy. Some bar tenders had difficulty speaking English and some did not know all the types of drinks but we figured out enough that we had a great variety.
Our Room- Very nice and clean. Jacuzzi was showing its age, but worked. Had a large bathroom, bedroom with king bed, and kitchenette/dining room with fully stocked fridge (water, coke, sprite, juice boxes, beer) daily and snacks (M&Ms, soda crackers, plantain chips, oreos) tea and coffee. We were never hungry, there is always snacks or food.
Excursions- We went to Sonoa Island and also Horseback riding. Sonoa Island was an hour and 25 min bus ride (full bus as very popular trip...with A/C) and then another hour and a bit on a boat to get to the island. On the way there we stopped at a submarine with a glass windows... we thought it would drive around so we could see the reef and fish, but it was anchored the whole time and a man scuba dived around the windows with some bread to attract fish... so we were on it for 10 mins then had to go back to the original boat and it took us snorkling. That was fun but not as many fish as other times I have snorkled in other countries. It was a party boat with loud music and endless rum and beer. At the Island they have you walk the another beach through jungle... and a ton of litter. Lunch was buffet and not nearly as great as the resort. We had 3 hours of free time to enjoy the beautiful beach and aqua waters. It was SUPER busy... very touristy. The ride back on the boat they stopped at a shallow area which is usually clear and bright blue so you can see the starfish but it was very choppy so not clear or blue for us.
Horseback riding was a HUGE HIGHLIGHT for us. We rode with one other couple who were also experienced riders and the 2 cowboys.. for an hour ride. I would say that 40 mins of the hour we were cantering and galloping down the beach (not the the American trail rides where your horse just plods down the trail). And a bit in the water (Wear long pants if you do this ride!!!!) I still have the bruises on my butt to prove it but a huge smile on my face from the fun ride.
I am sure I could go on and on, but the take home is: Pay for the Level, ask for Nathanael, tip for good service, BRING good sunscreen!!!! ENJOY :)

We stayed at Melia Caribe Jan 20-26. The resort is beautiful and the grounds are very well kept. The pool was amazing, though we spent our days at the beach. The Cape Nao bar was great and the servers were all very friendly. Our private butler, Drago, was absolutely amazing and he made our stay very top notch and we would highly recommend. He made us feel special every day and made a birthday and an anniversary extra special. The golf carts and trains were handy to get around on the property. The beach is clean and has plenty of chairs to go around. We will definitely come back!
Nice resort, good weather, great staff

The resort is nice, I wouldn’t call it 5 star. Melia needs to spend a little money and fix all the little things that need repair and upkeep everywhere. The rooms are very nice at the Level and the cleaning staff do a great job. Our concierge Alexandre Pierre went above and beyond the call of duty for us helping us out with things on the resort, as well as trying to locate items off resort on his own time.
One of the best things about the resort is the people working there. They are always smiling and happy, always willing to give you a hand or speak with you. Some of the ones we ran into Juan Luis Tavarez aka SexyBody, Alexander Crispin, Josefina Lappost and Diana Avila made us feel like family and we’re great to speak with and be around.
