Great martinis

Daysi gave us excellent service at the bar!!!! The espresso martinis were wonderful and the bar itself was a great experience!!!!!! It was wonderful to receive such excellent drinks!!!!!! Melia caribe resort is very nice but not all the service is great but the bar near the 49 building is incredible.

Not worth the money

Just returned from a week’s vacation with my 19, 21 and 23 year old sons. I did my research and booked this resort as it boasted 5 star accommodations, wide variety of restaurants and lots of activities. This was not the case. 1) Did not give us the rooms we had paid for, after multiple interactions, with multiple staff, were told we would be moved to the correct rooms, but only in 3 days time. First rooms were not well cleaned and really needed updating. New rooms were an improvement but still not what you’d expect for the $$. 2) Very limited restaurants. Unless you had paid for “The Level” you eat every meal at one of the two buffets. The buffets do offer a wide selection, my kids liked the food. A la cart restaurants are hard to book, have to stand in line up before 9am and hope you get reservations at a couple. We enjoyed the food at Capri and Alma very much. There is a snack bar at the beach, has burgers, fries, corn, some fruit. 3) Beach volleyball, ping pong and that’s about it for activities, unless you want to pay for excursions. They even charge to use the pool tables and air hockey tables. The beach is nice, they do a good job keeping that clean. The deal breaker and why I would never book here again is not because of the rooms, the food, the pool, that was not well cleaned, the reason is the staff. There were a few who were friendly and helpful but they were in the minority. Most of the staff act like you are inconveniencing them. I was yelled at by the bellmen, barked at by the towel person, the bartenders at the pool were nice, the bartender at the snack bar was downright rude. A few waitstaff at the buffet by the beach were friendly, most were not. I enjoyed my time with my family but was very disappointed with the resort in general.

Not that great

My husband and I with another couple booked The Level for this trip. It was our first time here and this was a huge disappointment. Check in was a breeze and went smoothly. We got golf carted to our room where one of the keys didn’t work immediately. The room itself is pretty normal. There weren’t dressers to unpack. We had a king bed and then two singles ???????. The jetted tub was very nice. LOVED the two separate shower heads in the bathroom. There was a makeup mirror in the bathroom along with the main mirror. Towels were replenished daily. Mini bar had chips, M&Ms, Cokes, water and two beers (like come on do more). Room service was only offered until 11pm and the menu was not appetizing at all. Breakfast was decent and came within 30 mins of ordering. They have an app but I wasn’t ever able to find my booking to be able to order from it. So we just called our order in. Figuring out the lights was an experience. If the main light switch was off, it turned ALL the outlets OFF. We had a little bit of an ant problem, but just in our bathroom. There’s also only DR stations on the TV, no video or streaming apps. So bring a fire stick or Roku if you want to watch anything. There were ropes and slippers for us there. We also had to use the umbrella one day. We have done all inclusive before and know if you tip well at the beginning, usually you get very good treatment. Since we would be doing most of our dining as a group we shared one butler/concierge. He made things SO much more confusing for us! He didn’t get us a SINGLE reservation we asked for, was making reservations as he wished and for random places he never told us where or when, made poor communication within just our group. We would get a message saying, “I have your reservation for tonight!” And then nothing else even after asking. So our loss for tipping good right away. I think the only thing he succeeded in was retrieving a towel that was stolen off our chairs! The pool chairs fill up FAST! We are talking by 8/830am. We found a nice cabana by the Tartufo pool everyday, so just a little walk to the main pool. Swim up bars were great and easily accessible. The frozen drinks weren’t all the way slush or melted EXTREMELY quickly in our double insulated cups. Be warned, the drinks are either barely boozed or STRONG (like 4-5 shots a drink)! The first day we were in the Adults Only pool for several hours, even went to the buffet by the beach. The next day we went and got kicked out because it wasn’t a part of our “Level” and he knew by our wristband (that looked like everyone else’s). Which was another thing they didn’t explain to us. After doing our own research, this pool was part of a different hotel - but on the same grounds- I don’t understand how it can be so segregated. I think the driver of the golf cart that gave us a ride should have said something when he dropped us off. Our favorite pool was the one next to the Riviera restaurant. Beautiful! But they make STRONG drinks at the swim up bar! The beach was PHENOMENAL!! Soft, white sand. Clean water! A netted off section to swim in. Very little seaweed. Only thing off-putting about the beach was the hecklers and vendors. The food was decent. Making reservations is damn near impossible. They tell you to call a certain number then you get transferred to the restaurant and it just rings and rings and rings. ??????? And like I said, our concierge/butler was a JOKE. We made it to 2 sit down places and they were both wonderful! The buffets are busy and chaotic. They don’t bring you to a table, you just have to hover one until there’s one available. Then you have to wave someone down to clean it. And a different person to get beverages. Service here definitely needs improvement!!! Entertainment was fun. And the grounds of this resort are STUNNING! It’s quite a jaunt to most places, but there were golf carts and trains running all the time. Check out was smooth. If you go to the store, know you can’t charge it to your room! Same with any extra charges from restaurants. So bring some big bills!

TO AVOID , CANCELLED HOLIDAY

Booked a holiday at this hotel through Loveholidays.com in January to the Dominican Republic to join some friends , so we paid same flights, same hotel and same dates. After 3 weeks they sent a message saying they can’t offer anymore the hotel so they are moving us in a different one 25 minutes drive away from our friends. When I said I don’t want another hotel they said they can refund the hotel money but not the flight money which was 2100£ . So now we either lose the flight money if we don’t go or we have to go away from our group . It’s just ridiculous, don’t book anything with them, even if on other sites is slightly more expensive at least you know you can get what you paid for. They have probably overbooked the hotel and because we had a good price as we paid months in advance they have just decided they cannot fulfil anymore our stay and probably gave our room to someone who paid more,at least that is my theory. Avoid them at all costs !!!

Cancelled holiday

Completely useless! We had a booking made for 10 people under different booking number and after 3 weeks from booking point, we received a cancellation for 2 of our friends. We called all customers services available from hotel to booking site and every finger pointed to this website mistake. They over booked the available room and unfortunately we ended up with the cut. I will never book holiday with this lot again!
