This is my review of the people and experiences that impacted my wife and I during our stay at SCC. It is from the heart with no ulterior motive or future expectations.
We stayed June 17-24, 2022.
STAFF: The staff we encountered was very cooperate and genuinely hospitable. The corporate is what you would expect at any resort. They receive training as part of the job. So, you expect accommodating, thoughtfulness, courteous etc. However, we experience genuine hospitality at this resort. They really cared about us as a family member rather than a tourist. It was not just with us. I noticed the same engagement was other guest, those that would take the time to recognize the staff (which is something most guest don’t do). We got to know so much about them as people. We came to appreciate that it was more than just a job to them. They really love what they do. They wanted nothing from us except to enjoy our company with them. It was not fake. Very genuine. It is for this reason we booked a return trip for December 2022 when we will stay longer than seven nights.
It’s all about the Dominican people and their culture of hospitality that is bringing us back. For instance, there is Ana from the Oceana Restaurant who we first met at the Rosewater Restaurant. When we told her we were celebrating our anniversary, she invited us to come to the Oceana Restaurant that night. When we got there, she had a table prepped for us with rose peddles (something she did on her own IMO). Then there were the Rosewater Restaurant staff like Vanessa, Angela, Luz and Yaylee (I hope I spelled her name right) that provided exceptional service around the Preferred pool. Additionally, there was Ricoberto (I hope I spelled his name right) at the Rosewater Restaurant who ensured excellent service to all the Preferred guest. Then, there was Ivette from the Seaside Grill Restaurant who provided us with great service. She also had a great sense of humor. Finally, there is Franklin who provided the crepes. Everyone looks for him in the afternoon at both pools. He is very accommodating. Thanks to him, I am now hooked on those things.
Of course, there were many others that played a tremendous role in our first time at this resort. We hope to join up with them as well when we return.
BUTLER: This review is not about the value of having or not having a Butler. Rather, I am memorializing the experience we had we had with our Butler, Anibal. He provided the service we expected from the Preferred Butler Service. In my opinion, he went the extra mile to ensure our anniversary (that we were celebrating) would be rememberable. From providing tips about the resort to rose pedals on the dining table in the French Restaurant and our bed, he did it all. It was if we were close family to him. Some might say he did his job. I would say he went above and beyond. The intangibles are immeasurable. Proactive and very observant. We are returning this December and will be requesting Anibal for his services.
DINING: We ate at the Asian, French, Italian, Mexican, Oceana, Seaside Grill, Rosewater and the buffet. Food was excellent. Did not have a bad meal or sub-par service. I cannot pick a favorite. The food did not taste like it was coming from the same kitchen.
SEAWEED: Yep! Saw plenty of that. There is a barrier out in the water that catches most of it. There were times where the seaweed did make it over the barrier. I am no expert on the issue. What I do know is that it is naturally occurring. The mitigating strategy being deployed is the best option and they are having very good success. Still, there are time when it is overwhelming. I am not sure if the seaweed issue is seasonal.
Therefore, one should temper one’s expectation about the beach (it can be a hit or miss). It is a very pretty beach with white sand. The seaweed does not take away from that fact. However, there may be days when going into the water may not be a good option. This should not stop you from coming to this amazing facility. The pools are very nice and inviting. Like I said earlier, we are going back in December. There is more to love about the staff and facility that seaweed could never take away from.
POOLS: The main pool is huuuge! It is split into three sections. The Preferred Pool is very secluded and exotic with the way the landscaping is done. Each pool offers something different. I prefer the Preferred Pool. It has a unique design and layout woven between swim-ups, landscaping, and the Rosewater Restaurant. Plenty of lounge chairs. It is my understanding the chair can be reserved starting at 8 am. Before that, they remove place holders.
CONCLUSION: No resort is perfect, but it can get pretty close. SCC fits that category IMO. We had been searching for a place we could call home in the DR. We found it at SCC.
Nice adult only resort, but I've been to better.
Jul 04, 2022
My wife and I decided to do a last minute, extended weekend in DR. I was going to book at one of 2 of our “go to” resorts, but in the end decided to try a different chain and ended up at Secrets Cap Cana. We had a great time, and it’s certainly deserving of it’s high TripAdvisor rating, though I wouldn’t place it at #1. Why 4, and not 5 stars? 2 main reasons: no snacks nor liquor in the room, and my experience in the spa was average at best.
I’ve gone to other comparable, all-inclusive, adult-only resorts and there were snacks and liquor in the room. In the mini-fridge we had soft drinks and 4 beers. I typically like to have a drink before dinner, and enjoy the view while my wife gets ready. Or on days where the weather does not cooperate, just hang out at the balcony, with some snacks and wine. I guess if you went “preferred” you’d have that option, but I don’t recall having to pay for a higher level experience at other resorts in order to get snacks in the room. With respect to the Spa, we did a couples massage, which included the hydro-therapy. At other resorts with a similar offering, they walk you through the different hydro-therapy stations so you get the most of it. Here you are on your own. The other 2 couples that were there had no clue. Also, the hydro-therapy is all outdoors, with no shade. Not very relaxing to “bake” before your massage. Finally, if you do anything at the spa, insist on some form of a receipt. When I purchased anything that wasn’t included, I always had to sign something which had the amount I was signing for. Nothing at the spa. At checkout, they had over-charged for a service my wife did and I had to go to the Spa to fix the charge.
The rest of the review is more subjective…and lengthy. If you don’t like long reviews, I still suggest you read the “tips” at the end.
The resort in general is not that big compared to say Excellence or Iberotar. It seems to be more of a laid back vibe. No on-site club, and festivities end at midnight. You have to sign a form at checkin acknowledging their policy on portable speakers (not allowed) and drones (also not allowed), which I thought was a plus. The pool area I found to be a bit cramped, but the beach area was quite expansive. Though get to the beach before 10am if you want loungers with some shade.
Regarding the beach…
You can go out about ¼ mile out and only be in 4 feet of water…not conducive to snorkeling off shore. BUT, because of the shallow waters, they can better manage the “sargassum”. Last year, we were not able to swim on the beach in Mexico at all. Here, even on the worse days, we were able to maneuver around the seaweed, and then be in an open expanse of clean water.
The service…all the reviews are accurate. Everyone is nice, and helpful. Entertainment team gets people engaged without being overbearing. Really too many folks to give shoutouts to, but I will say the staff at Bar Racuda was awesome. A true beach bar, where you can sit down, enjoy the ocean, meet people, and have some laughs with the staff. Other spots have beach bars to service the beach waiters. And if you want to meet folks, the only option is the pool bar. Bar Racuda was the beach folks hangout. Final comment on the beach…no “towel concierge” and towels were only available after 9am (sometimes later on the beach).
The restaurants were above average relative to the other resorts I’ve frequented. No reservations for the restaurants, except if you want the hibachi show dinner (a plus), but no buffet option for dinner (a minus). The French spot was our favorite. Lunch options were very good: beach grill, indoor buffet or outdoor a la carte.
The rooms was nice. The one thing that stood out for me was the private, spacious bathroom. Also, we did not go the "preferred" route, but found our concierge (Jourdain) to be quite attentive and always available.
So if you don’t do the “spa” thing, don’t care about the drinks and snacks in the room, and you want a quieter vacation (“quieter” being a relative term), Secrets Cap Cana may be the ideal destination. Particularly if you are a beach person.
I strongly recommend you book through the resort, and you speak to a person. I was going to book the trip “a la carte” online. Then compared that to the online “package” rate. When I called and mentioned to the rep that it was pretty much the same price, I got an extra, substantial discount. Finally, when you arrive, you get $200 to use in the resort. The catch: in order to get the coupons you have to talk to a “VIP” rep, and she will try to entice you into a “90 minute Vacation Club” presentation. You can say no, and just get the coupons, or sign up and in our case get a free couples massage ($400 value). While we had no intention of signing up for anything (and it was more of a 2-hour investment in time), I can see why several folks did buy into the concept. What I would suggest is that you research vacation clubs in advance (this is not a timeshare). Other chains are also doing this. Secrets is affiliated with Hyatt Vacation Club. There are some good resources online, and evidently you can wind up paying more for the same package that someone else got.
Well.....What a place absolutely 5 star. The hotel has to be one the best hotels in the Caribbean...wonderfully clean and the staff are 100% stunning in every way...
We booked a room for 2 weeks via TUI in the preferred area.....so the check in was a different building to the normal check in but the main lobby is stunning ...the lady who checked us in ..GRACIE was just amazing so helpful and professional.....so good in-fact I bought her a car !!...[ only a small wooden one though....as my last name is Ford ...she was convinced I was part of the ford car manufacturer !!...She will always be in our thoughts when we think of our holiday to Cap Canna...management she was wonderful and deserves all the praise we can give her.
Our room was in block 4 [ 4304 ] which had views over the beach ...all what you would expect in terms of fridge branded drinks...twin shower... etc, very modern and very clean. The balcony was large had padded furniture and a round bath !.and overlooked the beach ...stunning..
There are several restaurants...Rosewater/Mexican/Italian/French/Japanese/several BBQ,s Teppanyaki/Buffet/Seafood/and the Steak House...where a waiter named Robert looked after us ...this man could work in any hotel anywhere in the world ..a truly wonderful man and so attentive [ Management , Robert is one of many reasons why we would come back to this hotel ]....could not choose which one was best eatery , all 5 star . In fact all the food in every restaurant was truly exceptional. 24hr café. Amazing coffees...home made cakes... several venues for entertainment each night ...which is of the highest quaulity...so many bars...special mention to the guys & girls serving in the preferred bar and the lobby bar ...again 5 star service...thank you...all branded drinks in the preferred bar !
With preferred you get the services of a butler...Phillipe was ours ...what a person truly professional. Could not do enough for us such a wonderful man ... note to management ...he deserves huge credit for making our holiday what it was...and would be another one of the deciding factors when we come back.
The beach is again stunning white powder sand...load of sunbeds ...no rush to get your towels out at dawn. Beach service was unbelievable staff were so attentive [ special mention to ALBA ] who brought us proper cocktails each day [ not the premixed ones you find in some hotels ..all made fresh ] and was again a credit to the hotel. There was some seaweed on the waters edge in the mornings ...but the hotel do an exceptional job each day in removing it ...Its mother nature and a June thing....so not a problem.
There are at least 4 pools I think ...all are spotless and plenty of sunbeds and parasols..
We have travelled extensively over the years...and most of the time get a bit board around day 12 .....This is one of only 2 places we have stayed that we could have stayed for another 2 weeks.!!! It is that good....and sets the benchmark for all inclusive.
I could go on....but please don't take notice of any negative views ...it is paradise.
I wish I could list all the names of the staff...the room maids...gardeners...bar staff ...ect. But special thanks to :
We will be back !!
Beautiful Resort with Incredible Service!
Jul 04, 2022
My husband and I went to Secrets Cap Cana for our honeymoon, and we are so glad that we did!
The resort itself is absolutely beautiful and the service we received was impeccable. The resort was also very clean! There were lots of live entertainment throughout the days and into the night. The food was overall very good, and there were lots of options!
We chose the Preferred Club option and we are very glad that we did. This allowed us access to the Preferred Pool & Beach, some additional restaurants, and the Preferred Club (has a small bar and additional snacks throughout the day). The butler service that came with this was also really great. We enjoyed the ability to go to the main pool or the Preferred Pool (which was a bit calmer).
Anibal was our butler, and he did an incredible job! He always found us at least once a day to check in on us and sent us a morning text with the PDF of information for the day. The one day that I had a question, I texted him and he found me right away to answer my questions. He was very informative, kind, and a great butler! I would request him if we go to this resort again, and would recommend him to anyone that we know!
One of our favorite servers was Carlos at the Preferred Club beach bar. He was attentive, fun, and memorable in all of the best ways!
We would highly recommend this resort and would love to go back!
Outstanding service at Secrets

My wife and I visited Secrets for a week of relaxation. We received exactly what we wanted. Our personal concierge was Manuela, and she made sure we were well taken care of. She helped us planning excursions, and arranged for meals even when we had to eat outside regular meal times. She even arranged for a chef at the Ocean restaurant to prepare the Mahi fillets I had brought back from a fishing trip. Also, our friend Marileisi in the sales department was a great help and someone we really enjoyed getting to know. We traded English and Spanish phrases. Also Francisco was very nice while showing us the entire property and it’s opportunities. At the restaurants, we visited our favorite servers many times. At the Seaside grill, Alexandra Martinez took great care of us. It was like seeing a friend every time we went. Then, Geraldo took care of us also at the Seaside and at the French restaurant in the evenings. They were always checking on us. Joel was also around with a great smile. Thank you Secrets for these great people that we got to know.
