Not coming back to Dreams Tulum!

Stephen T (Fort Collins, Colorado) on Dec 05, 2024

This visit to Dreams Tulum was my 3rd and will be my last. My girlfriend and I were very disappointed overall. I am a UVC member and stayed in a Perferred Club ocean view room. The room, and much of the resort and very dated with drawers and doors that do not work properly. The minifridge did not get cold. The Preferred Club room amenities were nothing special. Sure the beach is beautiful and maintained well. The food in all the restaurants was mediocre at best. The staff was great and the service they provided was on par with an all-inclusive resort. Overall, not worth the money. We will not be coming back to Dreams Tulum.

Recommend.

Overall, I would recommend specially for families with younger kids (3-9). One of our favorite parts was the explore club and family friendly activities. We were able to drop off and pick up our kids from the explore club (open from 9am-5pm and 6-10pm) as convenient for us and enjoy some adult time on the beach, gym, dinner, etc. Food overall is good. This is our third time visiting and food has improved. Areas that need improvement: 1. Service. We did encounter wait times at restaurants, rude staff, and it took longer than I would expected to resolve an issue. 2. Housekeeping - Was not completed before we went back to our room to rest and to get ready for dinner. 3. Trash on beach that can easily be pick up by staff. To us it seemed that staff has been reduced overall which causes some issues for guest.

Had an excellent time and hope you do too!

northernlightstravel (Alberta, Canada) on Dec 04, 2024

We're going back we had such a good time! There were 4 of us (2 couples) that went to escape winter and we were happy with the whole place. Let me see if I can give you an idea of what to expect if you're trying to decide... We stayed in a Hacienda Suite with the Preferred option. The room was so spacious and CLEAN (thank you housekeeping!). It had the best patio to sit on and you looked right into the ocean. Huge bathroom with jacuzzi tub and double vanities so you don't have to elbow each other while getting ready for dinner. LOL. Turndown service at night was a nice touch. We are actually booking again for end of Jan/begin of Feb and going to book the same room. The rooms are above the cafe and smoothie bar and preferred lounge. So coffee at your fingertips which made my husband so happy. Grab a drink and some appetizers from the lounge and head up to your patio and watch the sunset etc. The Preferred Lounge: Amazing team in there. Angeles was so helpful with our requests and we'll miss her when we go back as she'll be having her little bambino. Alejandra as well as Manuel in the evenings were excellent as too. You'll be well taken care of by the team in here. Also in the Preferred Lounge: Alfonso the bartender. He takes care of everyone with a smile and made me the best Apple Martini's I've had in Mexico and this was our eighth trip to the country. Looking forward to them again. Beach: The beach is EXCELLENT here. We are beach and not pool people athough the pools looked great. We did spend our time at the Preferred beach as they have the bali beds etc which we love. We walked along the beach to the swim area that is completely sandy and easy for swimming. The area by the Preferred beach is rocky but that's good....if you like to snorkel as there are TONS of fish and turtles in there! We loved that the resort has the best of both worlds. If you're on the Preferred beach, ask for Salvador. He's excellent at his job and a big reason we can't wait to return. The beach bar attendants Karen, Alfonso, Fatima will take care of all of your drink needs and make your stay so pleasant. Restaurants: We LOVE LOVE LOVE freestyle dining and it's why we love the Secrets / Dreams brand. We hate making reservations. At this resort, its' all freestyle except you do have to book the Tempenyaki Grill and it's worth it. If you like wine, and we do, ask for Omar the Somalier. He has a fantastic list and no, it's not all super expensive. He will work with your budget and make sure you have a nice bottle at your dinner table. We are so looking forward to his smiling face when we return! Breakfast in the Portofino for Preferred Guests: We aren't big buffet people and love that the Secrets/Dreams brand always has the Portofino open for a sitdown breakfast. We started our day with the smiling faces of Rene, Edgar, Javier and a great breakfast cooked to order. The other restaurants were quite good. We enjoyed the Portofino the best and Humberto the chef made the best sea bass we've ever had. It was a joy to meet him personally and thank him for sharing his culinary skills. The whole meal was mouth-watering good! We can't say we had a single bad meal at any of them. We didn't do the buffet so I can't say if it was good or average. Gym: My huband used the gym daily and said it was well setup with lots of equipment and Horatio the attendant was there to get you anything you needed. Buildings: World of Hyatt...I'm calling you out here because this place needs a little sprucing up. It's mostly fine but you're letting an excellent place down by not keeping up with the maintenance etc. By and large the interiors of the restaurants and common areas are good. The room buildings and outsides need touch ups. Get that done! You're losing customers because you didn't keep up with it. If you're going to charge a premium price, you better display a premium product! My final thought is this....we've been to many of the Secrets and Dreams brands and this is the first one we're going BACK to because of the staff and the beach. We had a GREAT time and can't wait to do it again.
