Best place to stay while visiting San Diego
Laura B on Jun 20, 2026
Great way to experience San Diego. The views from the hotel room are outstanding, the services was impeccable. the Seaview restaurant on the 40th floor was the cherry on top of the ice cream!... great food and drinks. I love sushi and have tried several places, and I lived in Japan for a while. The sushi at this restaurant is one of the best I have tried.
Lovely hotel with big flaws

Lovely hotel, with big flaws. We arrived with 3 kids in tow after travelling to get here. Arrived at 2:30 (not realising checkin was 4pm our mistake). Room was not ready, which was fine. She told me she would call once the room was ready for us. Waited in the lobby, no internet, no instructions of any amenities we could possibly utilise while here. Waited until 3:45, no call so went back to desk to make sure they hadn’t tried calling and it didnt work (international travellers). She informed us the room was still not ready as they had a big event the night prior and some guests had a late checkout. I asked if she could tell me when it would be ready and she said checkin is 4pm Husband went back just after 4pm. Room still not ready and she couldn’t give him a time that it would be ready, even though it was past checkin time. Husband pushed for better service as we had 3 restless kids who were sick of sitting in a lobby. She offered us the key to a smaller hotel room we could sit in while we wait. But couldn’t tell us when our room would be ready. This didn’t really suit our situation, so we ended up going to the pool area, where our kids had to swim in u dewar because all of our luggage was with the bellboys. At 5:00 my husband went back to reception and asked what was going on. They said the room still wasn’t ready, and when said it wasn’t good enough for a $1400 aud per night room to not be ready an hour after checkin, they offered him a $50 usd voucher for our troubles. Laughable. We ended up contacting our travel agent in Australia to contact the hotel to find out what was going on because this was a joke. Eventually after 5:30 we finally got access to our room and a $200 usd voucher for our troubles. This was so frustrating. We realise arriving early was our mistake, but if they hadve told us the room was going to be hours, we could have gone and done something g rather that sitting in a hotel lobby for 3 hours with children who were incredibly bored. For the price we are paying, Don’t offer guests a late checkout if you can’t meet new guests checking time, I expect better service!!! Not off to a great start. Room was stunning, beautiful views. The kids fold down bed had an old ratty sheet with rips in it which was not great. We had also requested a rollaway bed when booking which wasn’t in the room, we had to call down and get one brought up. Housekeeping was friendly and efficient every day. Lots of renovations going on at the hotel, much needed upgrade of the level 4 pool, so we couldn’t access this for our trip which wasn’t an issue as they have opened up the adults only pool on level 3 to everyone. Also upgrading the breakfast restaurant, which means you have to exit the hotel and head to a nearby restaurant for buffet breakfast. The first morning (and every subsequent morning after) they didn’t have record of the breakfast included in our package. We had to explain every morning that it was included again. Not sure why this was so hard. No coffee machine available as it is broken. Having breakfast right next to a noisy scissor life every morning was overly pleasant, particularly for my construction working husband who is on vacation! We often for parking our own car while here. Weren’t given clear instructions on how to enter and exit so were often stuck with a room key that wouldn’t let us in or out of the parking garage. Saving graces were the view, phenomenal. Position is great in San Diego. Some of the staff were excellent, Serawit was amazing at breakfast, such a character, so kind to our family! Level 3 pool is excellent. Beautifully renovated. Painted floor gets a little slippery when wet, and having to get up and go to the bar for a drink is a bit of a disappointment. Overall an ok stay. Wouldn’t stay here again. Definitely expect better service for the premium price!!!
Poor check-in experience and lack of communication
Sigma Weihan C on Jun 19, 2026
We arrived at the hotel early in the morning and personally informed the front desk that our family was very tired from traveling and would greatly appreciate it if our room could be prioritized. We were told that we would receive a text message once the room was ready. However, no message was ever received. When we returned to the hotel at around 4:30 PM, we were informed that part of our suite (the living room) had already been ready, while the bedroom was still not prepared. At that time, when I expressed my concern about the lack of communication and the fact that we had already come in the morning to request assistance, the staff responded that the official check-in time is 4:00 PM and that room readiness cannot be guaranteed even when that time is reached. This response was particularly frustrating, as we had already made our situation clear much earlier in the day. We do understand that early check-in cannot always be guaranteed. However, what disappointed us was the lack of communication, follow-through, and consideration of our earlier request.
This Grand Hyatt made my conference trip much better.

The Grand Hyatt was a great experience. It has a fantastic location, close to many things that visitors would like to see. I actually saw 2 aircraft carriers out of my window, which was awesome. I highly recommend the hotel for both the room and the hotel experience.
Grand as its name indicates

The location is absolutely beautiful. It's within walking distance to several attractions -- food, grocery store, shops, comedy clubs, lots of downtown spots. The views are amazing! We had a room with a view of the water which also included cityscape views as well. It was great!
