Safe and clean in a beautiful kept garden. I would recommend this resort. It is Cuba so there are some shortages at times, but the food is plentiful as well as the beverages. Served up by a fantastic staff. The staff is the best asset of this resort. Many who have been here for years. One of my particular favorites is Margarita (perfect name for a bar tender) she used to be at the pool bar, but now you can find her at the beach bar. She is fantastic, friendly, helpful and very professional and goes above and beyond to service her clients, make sure to stop and say hello to her and get one of her drinks. All in all this resort is a gem.

Almost all of the pictures and information on the website regarding this hotel are misleading, obscure or false. I am sharing this so others can have an accurate and truthful evaluation by someone with practical standards, and that has been in 4 different “grades” of rooms over her first 3 days there. We stayed here for 2 weeks and it was the worst "vacation" we've ever had! I4 days of our time, energy and money have been completely wasted. Standard room: Ants, centipedes, and spiders crawling everywhere. Wires coming out of the walls. Similar to a construction site. Dirt everywhere. Superior room: Ants everywhere. Damp and foul smelling bedsheets. Old rusted air-conditioning fixtures. Lack of towels, toilet paper and water. Bungalow “platinum”: Hole in the ceiling - water dripping on the floor from light fixtures. Mold surrounding the bathtub. Ants and mosquitoes inside. Old rusted fridge. Lack of towels, toilet paper and water. Reception, management, customer service, A’la cart restaurant, and bar staff are: Unqualified, incompetent, ignorant, inefficient, unproductive, and ineffective. Ignorant about professional hospitality services. Often mingles causally together having drinks at the bar and, or texting/having video calls with friends or relatives when supposed to be “on duty” or “working.” Gives preferential treatment to Spanish speaking customers. Barely speaks or understands English. Hotel’s facilities: Rarely has toilet paper or soap Foul smelling Flithy - pee & poo in the toilets and urinals No toilet seats in certain stalls Poor & bad quality coffee No milk most days for coffee/tea All liquor displayed in the bar are empty bottles for decoration purposes only, doesn’t carry many of the spirits displayed. Untrained bar staff - cannot prepare proper cocktails or other mixed drinks. Low quality alcohol available and a limited amount is carried for daily consumption - runs out quickly. And the ocean closes after sunset. (Literally. Someone will call you to get out of the ocean and tell you not to swim after sunset.) Pool closes at 6 P.M. Food: Low & poor grade food, cooking, service and staff. Lacks variety and flavour. Mosquitoes and flies everywhere, also on food. Not properly cooked or seasoned. Bad air-conditioning. Customers are given different wristbands to indicate the staff of: Where they come from. Their hotel status - how much “inclusive” treatment they get. Have dealt with a multitude of staff members at the reception desk, customer service office, as well as management and restaurant staff. On the whole, they are apathetic about the pitiful condition of their services and their hotel. They considered us an inconvenience to their playtime while they pretended to “work”. Cuban hotel standards are unacceptable in comparison with other resorts with the same rating in different locations around the world. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT BOOK any holidays or vacations through WestJet or Air Canada for Starfish Varadero or any other hotels in Cuba!

This is an amazing budget friendly resort, the food is pretty great with a good variety each day as well as your staples. They do grilling everyday for lunch fresh fish tasty pork and chicken. Make sure you book your restaurants in advance as they book kind of quickly but definitely worth it. The team is great very friendly, with great spirits. Lots of fun. My top recommendation is the masseuse. Mayelin Absolutely amazing massage for a great price, very thouhrough and sweet. She does reflexology full body and facial as well as other treatments all listed at very fair prices with plenty of experience she will take care of you. I received a special complentry treatment as I got burnt from the sun. Shes totally worth your visit. The rooms are kept clean water is brought daily . Great place to spend time with your partner or family. Also let's not forget the beach, spectacular.

—The pool tiles are falling off and dangerous. -Air conditioning in main building broken the entire week -Lack of any food due to poor management -Smelled of sewer -no drink options except warm beer -poorly cleaned, vomit on bed skirting, mold, cockroaches -staff not friendly or attentive
