Easy, breezy, lovely family vacation spot

Carli B (Brooklyn, New York) on Apr 25, 2024

We had a lovely time at the Alexandra Resort. The word easy comes to mind, which is perfect for vacation. Visited with friends and family (Four adults, two kids: 7 & 10). We stayed a week in April - my first time visiting, but the group’s second time - and we were at the beach everyday enjoying paddle boarding, kayaking, and even a quick sail (included with your stay). I’m used to all inclusives being ok in the food department, but I was really impressed by Alexandra. Shout out to Sylvie at “Irie Bites” whose jerk chicken was enjoyed multiple times. Nice options for picky eaters and vegetarians. The staff were great, more shout outs - Ricar was a friendly face every morning at breakfast, Skyers a friendly face each night at the bar, Christina at the truck stop gave us fantastic service and attention, Kimron was the perfect activities director and emcee, ask Farrar at the beach bar for her special cocktail (I’m calling it the Island Auntie)…. And many more. Our two bedroom was spacious and hosted six people just fine (four adults and two kids taking the pull out sofa bed). Remember to ask for towels and water. As expected, there’s always a little dampness in the air, so pack a long sleeve shirt to sleep in if you get a chill. My friends already booked their visit for next year. Even at full capacity, the resort didn’t feel overcrowded. Admittedly, the activities were very family focused, even the evening ones, so if you’re looking for a resort for adults or families with older kids this might not be the best fit. That said, I didn’t find it a “kid resort” or just for kids. I don’t have kids and didn’t feel out of place. Other tips: - Leave tips. Come with cash ($5s are perfect or drop a $20 in the jar at the bar for the day) - Front row beach chairs are usually taken by 7:45 am. Get up early, put out a couple of bags to hold your seats, then go to breakfast (Pool chairs don’t go as fast; families hang out at the pool) - Beach towels get restocked a bit late (8:30 am). So, keep a few of your towels from the day before - Bring insulated water bottles and have your drinks poured into them. They will stay cooler and not get sandy - Bring a snorkel mask and floating waist belt and take the mile walk (30 minutes each way) down to the reef. The waist belt is great even when you’re not snorkeling. You can get these both on Amazon - Lunch can be ordered as carry out. Allow for 25 minutes to prep, typically - It’s an island, things are expensive. Taxi from the airport is $28. Taxi to shopping is $28. 15 minutes a tubbing on the ocean is $50/person. Honestly, you can just stay at the resort and feel great - Walk the mile to the reef for a nice morning activity. If the seashell guy is out near the resort, stop by. He’s super nice and will engrave a shell for you. Very affordable and a nice souvenir - Be prepared to wait an hour in the customs line upon arrival. The airport is small, so for departure try heading upstairs for a bit more space. Bring snacks. If not, you’ll pay $15 for Pringle’s and a water - You can honestly just wake up, throw on a bathing suit and cover up, roll into breakfast, and then go to the beach. You don’t need “day clothes.” At night, people were in shorts and tops or dresses. A pleasant casual or semi-casual vibe. I didn’t need a sweater, but I saw some women with a long sleeved shirt or wrap (pack one, not many). - Talk to Priscilla about booking your next stay
