    Best location, old unit

We stayed in a garden unit( #89) for 8 days. The location of this property is sublime, although this unit is in the very back. On a nice beach, good for kids to learn to surf and amazing views. It has a very well manicured garden where you can sit under the shade of the palms and easily bring snacks from your condo. They provide you with beach chairs, towels and chaise longues for free. That's it. Back to the unit, it needs a lot of update. There are not even 3 mugs! Everything in the kitchen is very basic and old. The bedroom has no privacy at all, it is only an internal division. No AC... They charge you for changing your towels ($27), taking out the trash or having the apartment cleaned. Keep that in mind. It's not included! I would not go back, at least not to this particular unit. The pool is on the other side of the main road, so a good long walk.

As we sit at the airport, we are sad that we have to leave this beautiful island once again. We were pleasantly surprised by how much we loved Kiahuna! The grounds were impeccable, the staff was amazing, our condo was spectacular with amazing views and we will definitely be back to this place. Our condo was up to date and it was a beautiful looking beach feel. It was very humid this week so at times the family was a bit warm, but it soon cooled off. Mahalo Kiahuna! ????

Beach condo with the best view and best beach in Poipu

We stayed at Kiahuna Plantation with Outrigger for a few times over past 5 years. It is a beautiful plantation, the ground is absolutely gorgeous! The beach at the hotel is adjacent to the famous Poipu Beach, but I like it even better than Poipu Beach since it’s more private and less people. Staff are very friendly and helpful. We have stayed at building 29, 20 and 28. Building 29 and 28 are partial ocean view and 20 is ocean view. Both building 29 and 28 have exceptional ocean view, right at the beach, and all the rooms we have stayed in, both upstairs and downstairs are amazing. Building 20 is actually further away from the ocean and won’t be worth the price of ocean view room, though the inside of the room we stayed was as good as the other rooms. However, considering the hotel is right at the beach, any room you have is no more than a few minutes from the best beach in Poipu!

    Tropical resort it isn't

This resort has nice furniture and has a nice garden, but it is far from a tropical resort. Since the locales have told us the tradewinds have changed and are non existant a good deal of time, our stay was uncomfortable. We goofed in booking here. Open shutters and fans don't cut it when it is hot and humid. NO A/C. The pool is pretty, but across a busy street, so drive there if you have kids. We are seasoned world travelers-Fiji, Kenya, Tanzania, the Outback of Australia to name a few and this place doesn't compare to our accommodations in any of those places. The unit we stayed in besides not having A/C, it also didn't have a washer/dryer in our unit. We were told the plantation is older and there are electrical problems. That is an understatement. Since my husband is an electrical engineer we know what is wired correctly. Light switches on some walls are in the wrong locations. Window A/C units could be put in, like the Turtle Bay units on Oahu and stackable washer/dryer units could be in the double closet that backs up to the bathroom area. Oh well, a four day mistake out of two weeks to 3 Hawaiian Islands I guess isn't bad.

KIAHUNA PLANTATION #142- JUST AS FABULOUS THE 2ND TIME!

June 4-13, 2019 My family of four (kids age 10/14) just spent our second summer vacation (stayed last year also) in #142. The kids were excited to "be home" again and loved knowing what to expect before we arrived. This is a great unit for a family. There is plenty of space with the two bedrooms and bathrooms. The location of the unit (building 21) cannot be beat. Great lawn area off of the balcony/patio and BBQ's (which are kept impeccably clean) are nearby. The only negative I have is that the bedroom doors are not solid and have louvers. This can be an issue when the adults are wanting some private time. We got creative with a blanket over the door so at least eyes couldn't see! The kitchen has all one needs to make a decent meal. I like having a toaster oven and not having to use the large one for small items. There is a coffee pot with filters and a starter pack for a pot. I have rented another unit in the complex and there were items that were left behind by other renters (plastic baggies, salt / pepper etc) but this unit has not had any. I do not know if it is the policy of the owner or the resort itself that takes/throws away items left (assuming some is left, we always leave those type of items in the drawer). There are some board games and old puzzles in the entertainment center that could could be cleaned out (puzzle pieces all mixed up for different puzzles). The beach supplies are in the closet off the back balcony or in the downstairs hall closet and it is a hodge podge of items. There were a couple boogie boards, cooler, a (broken) umbrella, some sand toys and flippers. Last year there were a couple beach chairs but those seemed to have disappeared. As for the property itself. It is absolutely beautiful. The grounds are well taken care of, the lawn is lush and the flowers are gorgeous. It is a nice place just to walk around. It was not crowded at all and at times I was the only one on the lawn area next to the unit. The beach is small but SO CLOSE Once again we had a meal at the Plantation Gardens. It was delicious and the drinks were great. We also walked across the street and ate at Keoki's Paradise. The laundry facilities now take credit cards for your laundry! The price has gone up 50 cents (per wash and dry) but I like the convenience of not having to have quarters. Much has been said about the cleaning fee- we knew up front. A mid week cleaning fee is included if staying a week or longer. There is no AC but the fans and the winds do a good job keeping the unit cool, it was never an issue for us. Yes, the pool is across the street but it is a quick walk. The pool service was great as usual! I rented directly through the owner, Gordon who responded to emails quickly. I was able to secure a late check out (1/2 of the nights rent) since we had a late flight out. It is nice to go through him and save on VRBO fees. If we come back to Kauai with kids we will stay in this unit again. If we come back with no kids we will stay on the property but a smaller unit. No where else comes close to Kiahuna Plantation!
