Mediocre

nancook127 (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) on May 04, 2024

I read reviews for many months and have been to many all-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean. This resort is just mediocre. Little value for the money we spent. This was our first trip to Turks and Caicos and the weather was not good. We stayed late April 2024. T Positives We stayed in a standard garden room. It was not updated but very comfortable and clean. Resort was easy to navigate because it has a small footprint. The best food option is the Jerk Chicken from the lady cooking near the beach. The lady cooking does a great job and is very personable. Negatives Food for the most part was below average in quality. You need to follow the calendar that you are given at check in. It shows the days that the restaurants are open and closed. The buffet felt more like a cafeteria. I was unlucky our first night and got very sick after eating dinner at the buffet. At breakfast there was one cooking station. There were no made to order waffles or hot pancakes just an omelet station. If you had the waffles or pancakes from the self-serve, they were warm not hot. To get a reservation for the Black Rock, Fish Deck and Fire and Ice you must stay up until midnight or get up very early morning that day to reserve dinner at a decent time. We visited both Black Rock and the Fish Deck twice. Each time they were both a hit and a miss. Food quality and service was not consistent. I suggest you cut into your food before eating to make sure the food is cooked properly. We were also able to eat at Fire and Ice at the Blue Haven. Unfortunately, the dinner lasted more than 2.5 hrs. We happened to be seated near a party of sixteen. It was clear that the staff could not handle both regular tables and the small party. Almost every food place missed something that was ordered. Either the whole meal, part of the meal or a drink. There were a lot of crying babies and small children at both the beach, restaurants, and pool. Many more kids than we expected. There was nonexistent drink service at the beach. Chair cushions on the beach were in dire need of replacement. Very uncomfortable. The padding was shot, and the straps were no longer there to hold the pad. Off the beach there is one bathroom with two stalls for everyone. This bathroom also serves the buffet and the Black Rock restaurant. There is a second bathroom near the pool. If you have any type of mobility issues keep in mind that you must take steps to get to the beach. Very limited entertainment in the evenings. Taxi cost is expensive. We went from the resort to town and the cost was $7 per person plus tip for a five-minute ride. So, four of us spent $28 plus tip for a five-minute cab ride. I would rate the resort as a solid 3. Has potential with updates and training. We had an ok time. I am not sure how it gets so many glowing reviews. Would I return to this resort – No. Would I recommend this resort – No.

Solid Family Vacay - Could be better, could be worse

krilz213 (Seaford, New York) on May 03, 2024

We visited in April-May 2024 for a week with 7 adults, 2 toddlers and an infant and overall we had a great time. Although I gave this 4 stars it’s probably more of a 3.5 or so. While I’d recommend it, we probably would seek other options if we came back to the area just to see what else is out there. Food - overall the food was above average and it some cases really good. It’s an all inclusive so set your expectations accordingly. Black Rock steakhouse was pretty solid overall and the service was quick and didn’t feel slow/island timeish. Sushi was great! Food trucks, Asu buffet and the main lunch grill spot had some great bright spots but some underwhelming as well. Keep in mind with the all inclusive, portions tended to err on the smaller side but you could always order more. Undoubtedly the highlight for me was the nice lady cooking up jerk chicken/ribs platters right by the beach. Also, two in our party ate gluten free and there was enough for them but could have been more (gf bun for burgers was huge). Service - 1000% aligned with the other reviews in that it was hit and miss. Some were really friendly while others seemed bothered or completely glazed over. 5 specific callouts here - Keisha the bartender at the tiki bar place was awesome. The lady at the daycare was super nice. Fontilia our housekeeper was phenomenal!! With the kids we had, she did an amazing job and went above and beyond every single day! Spa ladies were very nice. Lastly on the down side, was the main pool bartender. She’d make what you wanted but seemed dismissive and checked out of life basically every day. Pool - def needs to be upgraded and cleaned better but overall we enjoyed our time there every day. Seriously don’t bring floats, there are plenty there. But bring kids swimmies if you need. My recommendations for this place which i think most guests would agree with: - paper towels in the rooms please - a dedicated coffee bar of some sort - improved options at snack station (self serve hot dog station??) - please clean the playground equipment better - more entertainment options - ice cream station! While they had a nice free selection of mini cups, def needs a dedicated station. Maybe something like they have on cruises. Our rooms were great (we had 2 br oceanfront suite, 1 br garden suite and a garden studio) and views were awesome. Like I said more 3.5 than 4 but it definitely was not a bad choice by any means. Could we have gotten more perks at a more pricey all inclusive (aka Beaches), perhaps but the price for us wouldn’t justify it. Overall a nice, smaller venue with some highs and lows but if you’ve never been to turks, definitely worth a shot.
