So this was our second time here, March 2-19. Saw a few improvements as well as a few disappointing things. First off, Daniel at the front reception was fantastic! Friendly, knowledgeable and spoke great English. Dennis at the lobby bar is still my favourite as he remembered us and just is that bartender you see in the movies, friendly, speaks great English, remembers your favourite drink and can keep you entertained. Lizbeth our maid kept our room spotless and always had enough towels. Great job Lisbeth!! Omar, Rosalino, and Daniel at the pool bar...what can I say, you guys are all absolutely amazing! You work so hard and are always so friendly and give the best service! That being said, I agree with the previous review from oldbartho. There are some issues that need to be resolved at this resort. The privately owned condo/villas owners are creating problems that we also saw. And it not all the owners, its a few. Tesoro will have to decide which is more important, repeat hotel guests or villa/condo owners. One other issue is , the pool bar only opens at 11:30. We sat on the beach beside the Krystal Hotel guests and they would come from the bar with drinks at 10 AM. We had to wait until 11:30....? A few little things, the french fries at the Snack Bar were never fresh, not once in 17 days! No Guacamole at the snack bar ever, and rarely at the buffet. I would have thought this would be a staple menu item as we are in Mexico right! Buffet menu was pretty good and an improvement from last year, Buffets at night time not bad, but only had pasta show station twice. This was my favourite and wish this could be more often. No mint leaves to make mojito's at this resort for all you mojito lovers. No fresh french fries. No guacamole at the snack bar. Pool bar does not open until 11:30 Villa/Condo owners seem to run this place. Towels have numbers on them and it seems to be an issue when returning them as their system for keeping track needs to improve! All in all, 5/5 for service and cleanliness. Could improve some food items. Would I go back? Probably, I truly think the staff does their utmost with what they are given. Daniel at the front reception Dennis at the lobby bar Omar, Rosalio, Hector and Daniel at the pool bar (thank you for the ice every day Hector!) Lisbeth our maid Thank you!

Dennis at the lobby bar was amazing and gave us super service. He speaks good english and is very friendly. Our maid Laura was great and made the cutest towel animals. The beach was simply amazing and stretches for 2 miles. The pool was always clean. The food I hate to say was not for tourist that are not Mexican, It would have been nice to have some north american food, we ate out a lot.

I read the reviews for this resort that make it seem amazing and I can say that from the second we arrived we were not impressed with the service or facilities. We’ve both been to other areas of Mexico multiple times and this resort did not meet our expectations. There was no friendly arrival greeting. A good majority of the staff did not speak English and could not help you. It becomes very frustrating when every time you need something the staff laughs and walks away. There were line ups for every meal. Line ups at the bar. No pool side service. The food was mediocre at best. We ate off the resort multiple times which was delicious. The resort also stated all inclusive, for food. Beverages. Wifi. Etc. But when we arrived there was no wifi included. Premium cuts of meat and liquor were extra. Room service was extra. Specialty drinks were extra. We flew with Sunwing and the representative did not show up when he was supposed to do and we didn’t see him until three days before we left which makes it difficult to try and book anything. The beach was amazing. The local restaurants and shops were great. But I can Honestly say I would never return to this resort. It’s a lot of money to spend to be disappointed and having to spend extra to enjoy a meal.

    12 Times and still counting!

Just returned from a lovely 2 weeks at Tesoro Ixtapa! Thank-you Senor Ruben for a fabulous stay! The resort is very clean, the staff is amazing! They attend to your needs and they are always smiling and friendly. This is like my second home! I'd like to give a shout out to Dennis the lobby bartender our waitstaff Roselio,Omar, Andy, Mauricio and his brother,Armando, Jorge, Patsy,& Oliva. Thank-you to the bellboys for your hospitality. As always the pool is fantastic! I enjoyed the lunches in the main dining area but, thought there could be a bit more of a variety of food for the evening meal. Each year there have been very good improvements to the Tesoro! I can't wait to see what will be done for next year. I do however really miss the Bingo and Horse Races during the afternoon around the pool. I would love to see that come back! I know other returnees miss that as well. I will see my Tesoro family next year and thank-you for your warm welcome!!

This was our 12th year in a row that my wife and I, and travel companions, have stayed at Tesoro. General Manager Ruben has done a great job making improvements to the facilities over the years! The resort is immaculately clean and the hard working staff is very friendly and are very happy to welcome their guests. Travel seemed to be down this year and we noticed a few cut-backs that were likely due to fewer guests. The pool bar that used to open at 10 a.m., then began opening at 11 a.m. a few years ago, is now opening at 11:30 a.m. The food in the buffet area, while tasty, was quite repetitive and unimaginative (no foreign or special night menus). These may be cost cutting measures due to lower tourism. We ate out quite often to get a variety for our palates. The newly remodeled reservation restaurant, while very attractive, now requires that the gents wear long pants which I feel is a step in the wrong direction since many upscale restaurants allow men wearing dress shorts and shirts with collars. I haven't brought long pants to Mexico for many years and was able to work with Sr. Ruben to a happy conclusion. There is one issue that needs to be resolved at this resort. The hotel itself has a number of privately owned condos in it. There are also a number of privately owned villas on the resort property. Most of the owners are very nice but there are two onerous villa owners that have been creating problems for some times. Both men are wealthy and show traits of a sociopath in that they only care only about their own wishes and have no empathy for other paying guests. For example, one of these men sits by the pool daily. He claims to be allergic to smoke (altho he smokes cigars at times). Smokers now go to the adjoining beach about 75 yards and 10 feet below the pool area where he sits. This man claimed to be offended by their smoke and tried to bully the staff to force smokers farther out on the beach where the sand gets extremely hot. I am not a smoker and sit by the pool more closely than he does and have never smelled smoke. Shame on him! The other owner is also a bully. The music played by staff around the pool is kept at a lever that most people would consider pleasant and reasonable. One day that man bullied the staff to turn down the music to the point that it cannot be heard by all in the pool area. We were force to bring out our own musical device so the afternoon could be enjoyed. Tesoro corporate staff is going to have to decide who makes policy at the resort. It's either the resort manager or the owner bullies. If they allow the owners to rule, there likely will be fewer U.S. and Canadian guests coming there in the future!
