We had the most wonderful holiday, couldn't ask for better, swim up room was so clean and kept that all through our stay, mini bar & snack kept fully stocked, by wonderful extremely obliging courteous staff. Restaurant served the most delicious food again the staff were amazing; our favourites were the steak house ( Los Abrazos) and the Fish restaurant ( El Suspiro ) the was our lunch time favourite serving buffet style lots to choose from mainly fish but meat too. The breakfast buffet restaurant was awesome (Mercado 19) everything you could desire was served. The bars were well stocked with branded liquor again staff so obliging and fun. Beach area perfect soft white sand plenty of comfortable beach furniture, bars near and beach service all day, for drinks and food, plenty activities scuba diving snorkeling boat trips parasailing jet ski's beach ball just to mention a few. Pool areas, bars, food restaurants, pool service, entertainment all day and spotless, perfectly laid out. Lots of trips out exploring, we loved Isla Contoy a Caribbean beautiful island, Excaret adventure park awesome that is an all day excursion don't miss this either, cave snorkeling, quad biking, check these and more at beginning of holiday for planning you your time here. Staff I would to mention that served us well, El Suspiro Alvara, Irving, Weinely. Los Albrazos, Giovanni, Laura, Wearnley. Reception, Alexanda, Lina, Francisco. Reception Bar, Alfredo, Andmaria. These are just a few, but all staff were amazing, we do plan to return for our next winter holiday. Thank you for making our stay so memorable. X

Not sure how much to blame on the resort versus the booking company vs. fate.....

Let me first say that my booking company committed the bigger error. Due to a snowstorm, the airline delayed our flight so we missed the first of our 4 scheduled days at the resort. We spoke with our booking company to find out what to do--possibly use our trip insurance to cancel the whole thing, due to weather? It was a long way to fly and an awful lot of money to spend for just a 3-night trip, especially with more storms on the way. After spending hours on the phone that first day, the booking agent finally reported back and said that the resort was extremely easy to deal with, that they would give us the extra night at no cost, and waive the penalty for the first missed day. However, the booking agent employee wouldn't give us a new confirmation number, just his first name, "Robert". Of course, when we arrived at the resort at night on day 2, they had no knowledge of this arrangement. When we called the booking company, no one seemed to know who "Robert" was. In the end, we spent over 5 hours of our short trip sitting with check-in and with the concierge, trying to get some answers, and we had to reschedule our flight yet again to go home a day early. We ended up with a 3-night stay in Cancun and never even got a tan. Although the first concierge was worthless, we both agree that the 2nd concierge at Atelier was great--he spent hours on the phone, working on this issue on our behalf, and he was extremely patient with me and my tearfulness. After we learned that we were, ahem, 'screwed', he helped to reschedule the flights because we had to go home a day earlier. The poor guy had to try to pacify the tearful gringa, so he even had one of the restaurants take us in as priority diners for a surf-and-turf meal, and when we got back to our room, they had left champagne and strawberries for our 15th anniversary. The only fault I found with the hotel was that we didn't get what we had booked for. We were willing to pay the big bucks so that we could be somewhat pampered for a few days. My biggest reason for booking there was the swim-out room. How nice it would have been to be able to use that, to swim off of our private patio and to sip a pitcher of margaritas while sunning ourselves on our own private loungers in the water (see their resort photos about the room). We didn't care about a view of the ocean, just our own little semi-private spot in the sun. Little did we know that the entire side of the building we were in had NO SUN EXPOSURE, and I mean zero, even in the early AM. Therefore, the water was frigid and there was no way to tan. People in the same swim-out rooms on the OTHER side of the building were splashing around having a great time. (I wonder if they paid even more.) NO ONE in the rooms on our side felt able to enjoy their private pools--we heard them on their patios, saying all the same things that we were saying. We tried to enjoy the non-private swim areas, but the loungers by the pools were all reserved, and the giant Jacuzzi was unheated. My other issue was that they were supposed to be known for their gourmet food. We did actually have 2 very good meals while we were there. The others, in the cafeteria, were somewhat rustic and with limited choices. On the "pro" side, it was a beautiful property, and the employees were very friendly and accommodating. The bathrooms are gorgeous, with separate tub, shower, and commode. My advice: If your DO book at this property, be absolutely sure that you have it in writing exactly what type of room and sun exposure you'll have. Be sure to bring lots of $1 bills for tipping, because there is no where on the property to get change. Also, beware that it is a golf resort, and somewhat more geared toward men. There was plenty of beer and soda in the mini bar, some bottles of mescal and tequila in the room if you want shots, but no mixers, and very little wine.

We stayed at Atelier adults side, Jan 9-19. The rooms are gorgeous, and we had a good time. The check in was very slow. We booked a Junior Suite room and we try to upgrade to a higher floor but there were few conferences underway in the hotel and the hotel had no available rooms as we were told. The hotel tried to convince us to get an Inspira suite for $2,000 USD more and it is not worth the money in my opinion. However, there is no need for an upgrade. We had a partial ocean view room closer to the beach. The room that we originally got had a sewage smell. The entire building (first from the beach) has this issue as we talked with other people from the same building. I do not think the hotel can do anything about this. We changed the room for a similar one in the next building further from the beach (we were still able to have a partial ocean view). Be aware that the cleaning lady has a super key and can unlock your safe. You do not need reservations to the restaurants (only Inspira guests are able to do it). However due to the conferences, the restaurants were closed by rotation to accommodate larger groups. One night we were told that the waiting time for the Los Abrazos is one hour! Restaurants: our favourite was Los Abrazos (try the ribeye and the banana split) and our least favourite was Takeshi (Japanese). The food at Takeshi was extremely salty and overcooked. While we were there, they introduced Mexican night at El Suspiro and we enjoyed it. We also liked Cilento – yes the portions are small but very fulfilling if you get most courses. We had breakfast at Mercado few times and the service were not that great. Seating is aleatoric, we asked for water few times and by the times we finished breakfast we still haven’t got it. However, the food is very tasty and good. The best coffee at the coffee shop (Cafecito), good muesli and yummy croissants. We had a very nice surprise with the room service. It was the best room food we’ve ever had in all our travels. The steak was done perfectly, the service was prompt, and everything was great. I also loved the grill and salad lunch buffet at the Trompo. Everywhere the food was very good! Beach: it is a very nice, wide beach. There are 2 beach levels. One right close to the pool as you step outside the resort, and as an extension, going up a bit, one near to the water. There are enough beds and chairs. There is one beach bar shared with the Estudio side (kids side). The beach is not clear delimited between the adults side and the kids side. There weren’t many kids while we were in the resort however I can see this being an issue especially since the bar is shared. There is seaweed on the beach (it is the entire region and there were storms while we were there) and the hotel is working hard to remove them. Pool: it is large and there are enough chairs. However the day we left, in order to accommodate conferences events, they removed all the chairs and beds on one side of the pool. I was happy we were leaving but paying a lot of money for this resort, I do not think that I want to be restricted due to conferences (beach, restaurants etc.). In the morning they have a spa music on the PA system very nice. However, along the day they just had club music and it became very tiring after a couple of days. That’s why I think many people had their own music which it was even more annoying. I missed the Latin music such as salsa, bachata etc. Activities: it is a pretty quiet resort. They have some activities, but they are not very well advertised. I do not think there are enough people in their entertainment team. Alejandro and Danny Boy did an amazing job during the day (Zumba, volleyball, water polo, bingo etc). We loved the rock band and the magician at nighttime. They need to rethink the nightly entertainment and how they advertise it. Mosquitoes: they are trying very hard to keep the mosquitoes under control and they succeed most of the times. Just be careful after it rains before they spray it again. I am prone mosquito bites and I had no issues (few bites), just avoid walking around during the early morning and evening hours. Personnel is absolutely fantastic! Very nice, polite and always trying to help you. Jasmin at the welcoming desk (various restaurants) was very efficient and organized and she remembered our names and room number! At the Steakhouse Jimmy is awesome, Laura was very quick and efficient, Angel was very nice. OMG all the people at El Suspiro are amazing (sorry I do not remember all their names)! Alfonso, the manager, the guys from the bar etc.. They do not have octopus on the menu, and they made it special for us when we requested it. Thank you!! Romero and the other guys (sorry for not remembering all the names) at the pool are working so hard all day long. Always smiling, cracking jokes and always asking you if you need anything. Thanks to Alberto, one of the bell boys for helping us with the room and luggage. It was a great resort and we had a very relaxing time. They still have few things to fix, nothing major. I thought that being a Mexican chain, I would experience more of the Mexican culture which it gets lost on the Mayan Riviera. I suggest they would bring that in through music, food (great that they introduced the Mexican night), artisanal markets etc.

    Top Notch Hotel

My spouse and I went to the Atelier Playa Mujeres Hotel the week of January 10th to 17th and had an amazing time. We go to 5-star, all-inclusive, adults only resorts every year and this place ranks in the top 3 for sure. The resort does an excellent job of keeping the families to the other side of the resort and adhering to the adults only vacation set-up. Here are the highlights from our week: Check-In: Fast and friendly with a welcome drink of course. The hotel is completely automated through their APP so if you need room service, have a question for the concierge, want to know what the entertainment is, it's all at your finger tips. The only downside to the check-in process is that they try to sell you their elite package for future vacations, but the guy we had eased off as soon as we said we were not interested. Room: We had a pool/ocean view room which was spectacular. The ceiling heights, decor and bed were all amazing. One of the nicest rooms we've stayed in. Service: We had amazing service from the moment we walked in the door, All staff said good morning/night and were all very engaging. The morning breakfast service was awesome thanks to Estevan and the omelette station cooks! "Little Oscar" (as there are 2 Oscar's) and Francisco at the pool were so quick to bring us drinks and food and were super friendly. Alejandro and Edson who ran the activities were a lot of fun and didn't push you to participate...and were VERY entertaining and interesting guys to chat with. Lastly, Hugo at the sports bar was one of the best bartenders I've ever seen (and I've been to a lot of bars). He knew what you were drinking from your 1st order and never let your drink run dry...it was like this magic gnome would come by when I wasn't looking! Food:The breakfast buffet and coffee shop were excellent and had no shortage of choices. Lunch options were great...even the pool side food was decent! Dinner was excellent...from the steakhouse, to the Japanese, to the sushi bar, and the Italian restaurant, all were excellent and you never left hungry! Facilities: The gym was very clean and had everything a good gym back home would have. The grounds of the resort were clean and well maintained. The common areas were very well decorated and comfortable. The disco/theater was pretty cool and different from a lot of other resorts...it's just too bad that hardly anyone goes. It got busy a couple of nights for the shows but otherwise very under utilized. Negatives: Keeping in mind this is just being nit-picky but here goes - the resort could advertise their entertainment better and encourage guests to go (as the shows were a lot of fun). Once this resort gets more popular (and it will) there will be a shortage of pool chairs (something to consider as they get busier. We never had an issue getting chairs but come the afternoon all were taken and they were only 60-70% full). Lastly, the resort should update the APP with the restaurants that are open each night as some are closed certain nights. Overall we would highly recommend this resort. Hurry now as the prices will go up I'm sure as it starts to get busier! You will not be disappointed.

I think this is a luxury resort. It has all the makings - good food, good rooms, great staff, wonderful! Luxury is subjective, that's for sure. We were a group of 2 couples and 1 single. (single by the way had a great time). We were greeted by the bellboys who swiftly took our luggage, welcomed us and escorted us into the reception area. I always say that the first moments in a hotel, these simple greetings, how you are treated and getting the rooms that you requested is so important. It really sets the stage on how you will feel for the rest of your stay. If it does not turn out well, you will get over it but it takes a few days and your approach to the whole resort can be clouded by first impressions. I am happy to say we were greeted warmly, got rooms to our liking and concierge was capable and competent. Our rooms were not ready, but that's ok, it was early... we left our luggage and wandered off for FOOD and to explore. Within no time we were escorted to swimout rooms that were gorgeous! lots of lotion, bath salts, hair shampoo and conditioner, body wash - we were replenished as much as we required throughout our week. The room as you can see from pictures was comfortable, private when you wanted it to be private and open when you wanted it more open. In our room bar we requested things that we would like and it was generously filled every day. We loved this room and you will too. Morning room service was a bit earlier than the time we requested, but whatever, no worries, we were in paradise! The coffee was hot and the donuts delectable! Morning buffet was good. Ample food, just like other 5 star resorts that we have been to in Mexico and we have been to a lot. The a la carte restaurants - top notch. As others have mentioned, the food and drinks are what you make of it, what you ask for, and how you request your food. Be thankful and appreciative and you will be rewarded. If you have an issue, gently explain and it will most certainly be rectified. The pool you will love but it was a bit cold for me, thankfully our swim out room temp was perfect! The food at the pool bar area is yummy and you must try everything! There was a BBQ here and there and the grill has experts taking care of your meals. You will be happy with the food there. If you love smoothies and healthy food options you will be very pleased with this resort. I could go on and on but others have said much the same. I see lots of food postings and so you know the food is beautiful and tasty. I just want to reiterate that if you look around, ask questions, approach the staff they will happily find you the entertainment, your exercise, great food and the fun that you are looking for. The staff aim to please. Please tip them your appreciation. They work so hard for your happiness and they were all very grateful. My only complaint and it is minor that there was a day when there was a group of drunken people in the swim out room near us. There were rude to women walking by and yelling and swearing, playing music too loud. I think if they wanted to do that they should leave the small swim out pools and head to the fun at the main pool where that is a bit more tolerated. Thankfully the group left the next day and the rest of the week in our swim out was quiet and uneventful, chatting with a few neighbours. If it had gone on any longer we would have called the front desk. I do hope the management keep an eye on this as this can really turn people off the swim out rooms. We had a great time, I hope you do too. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask. We will be returning to the resort in March and we can't wait to get there.
