    Mixed bag

    My sister and I stayed at this hotel for a week in October. I booked our stay directly at Barcelo.com for a premium level room. This hotel was a mixed bag. Having stayed at 4 other Barcelo’s in the last 5 years I felt we had a good idea of what to expect from their product. This hotel was a letdown. I will start with the good. Staff is absolutely incredible! My sister and I are limited meat eaters and certain staff members went above and beyond to accommodate our somewhat nitpicky palates. There were 3 individuals in particular who were OUTSTANDING! Gerardo who was our waiter at all three of the specialty restaurants. He made sure that our meals excluded fish, meat, etc.; Israel Piedra who was our breakfast waiter and our pool waiter in the afternoon. He brought us limes and pico de gallo every morning after the first day and would bring us the drinks we liked without even asking. Such a wonderful man!; lastly, Eduardo who is the onsite water sports activity guy. He would stop by and visit with us everyday and help us with our Spanish as well as share his love of Manzanillo. These gentleman are true assets to the hotel. The diligence at which the hotel was practicing safety protocols due to covid were impressive. Our temperature was taken upon entry into every restaurant every time. Masks were worn by both staff and guests and social distancing was practiced. Tables and chairs were completely disinfected between seatings. Even upholstered chairs were sprayed down. Good job Barcelo! Now for the not so good. No premium lounge. We love the lounge and all that it provides but sadly it was closed with no explanation as to why and no notification prior that it would be closed. If we had known this prior we would have booked a regular room and saved ourselves a few hundred bucks. Our room was subpar. Black mold growing in the shower, sewer smell from the sink and shower drain, and leaky air conditioning. Maintenance was called and they said they had fixed it but it still dripped. We just threw a towel on the ground so we wouldn’t slip. Mini bar was bad. No little bottles of booze or chips, cookies. Only one bag of peanuts each, water, soda, and a couple of bars. Completely different than previous Barcelo premium stays. Room service was only offered from 1p-10p daily and you had to call to get the menu which was impossible as we speak extremely limited spanish. I personally would not come back here based on our experience. The major redeeming quality of the hotel is their staff. We are heading to Barcelo Maya Riviera in a non premium room here soon. Hopefully it will be a better experience.

    The Barcelo Karmina currently does not have the same level of amenities as usual, but they deserve the 5 stars for keeping us safe during this pandemic. We were there at the end of September 2020. They went out of their way to make sure everyone was wearing their masks and everything was constantly being cleaned in all the public areas and restaurants. A lot of the activities were not available yet, but we still enjoyed the beach, the pool areas, and the restaurants. The Club Premium room was closed which was very disappointing since this was not explained when we made our reservations through the Barcelo website. We complained to the manager, Ernesto, and he apologized that the website does not explain this. He allowed us to check in early and made sure we got the type of room we requested. This was very minor though. The wonderful staff went out of their way to make sure everything was perfect. We had the Mexican, Japanese, and Italian dinners and they were all amazing and very authentic! Keep up the good work Ernesto and Crew, we will definitely be back and hope your Club Premium room will be open next time!

    What a fabulous vacation spot! We enjoyed ourselves immensely! Great food and outstanding service especially by Daniel and Armando! Awesome snorkeling in the bay, saw a sea turtle. We will definitely go back!

    Highly recommend!

    My partner and I were booked in for 2 nights and immediately booked an additional night. The staff are friendly and helpful and the facilities are beautiful! I would recommend going for a "premium level suite" to get the full experience and extra discounts :)

    Still a great place to take a vacation

    Holiday Feb21 to Mar05. excellent room and maid service room 4213. Food at the buffet and al la carte were great. The buffet was ever changing, never got tired of the wondrous variety, Ibania the concierage was very personable and helpful. The pool area wait staff were all great but Daniel and Emmanual stood out. Eduardo and aquatic activity guy and personable and friendly even though we did not partake in any of his adtivities. He made a daily circuit to welcome all and say buenos dias to all the customers. probably come back for a third visit
