Entering the Fairmont Grand Del Mar is like being transformed to an elegant Italian Palacio. Beautiful landscaped secure entry to the property. The Christmas decor is gorgeous. Outside is a Ferris wheel, ice skating rink, and other sites to entertain the whole family. Excellent service from the staff.

We make it to the fairmont around 3. Pull up to the drive way and ask valet where is self parking because the wife doesnt like people driving her tesla. The valet guy tells us their mini carnival winter wonderland is going on and there is none. I try to explain that we will pay the 40 dollars but we dont want others driving the car. He then comes back with a supervisor and tells us self parking is over the hill. Great! I make it to the front desk and they tell me my room is not ready and they dont have any other options avaible and check in is at 4. I explained that we had just spent 12 hours on the road and if they had any queens in the same rate that was ready, she replied yes. I agree to take the room then she tells me it will be 50 extra a night. I tell her I'll keep my king. She replies ill call you when your room is ready. We figured at most we wait a hour more or so we head back to the car. It is a wednesday afternoon pouring rain and the place is pretty vacant. I wonder why would they not just check me in. Turns out she never called but i got a text 10 minutes later from mia saying room is ready after we left. I didnt see the txt because of bad signals in the valley. Truth is we booked our 5 day stay through a 3rd party site and our not ready room was the one all the way to the back looking right out at a tree right next to the elevator, which i already expected. I was not in a great mood after being lied to multple times just tell the truth its ok. I feel bad for the next girl who tried to walk me to my room because at that point i just wanted to be left alone. I dont know why people rave about this place. Good hotel, bad service.

Horrifying Service and Terrible Experience on 2 separate stays.

This hotel is an embarassment to the Fairmont Brand. I had a poor experience a year ago, and when engaging the Director of Rooms that I was going to come back again this year, I was failed as the stay was even worse. The guest relations staff is poorly trained, and give incorrect information about the property that both disappoint and and seriously inconvenience the guests. The management team is so poor as they make countless promises to fix issues that are never resolved. There were countless housekeeping and service failures in the room and all over the property. I shouk dhave gotten paid by them as I spent my whole time managing issues and escalting defects and poor performance of teh staff, and still the managers were ineffective to resolve the issues. I even left the property a day early it sucked so bad, and it was so unfixable, Our bed was sqeeky too, and when we reported it it still wasnlt fixed correctly the next night. There is pretty architecture and design at many parts of teh property, but the service is undertrained, unqualified to serve guests, and rock bottom poor. They break many commitments, their senior leadership are like non existsent ghosts and I wish they would all be removed from their duties, as I believe they are failing epicly to have so many systemic issues all over the property. There is garbage left around the property for hours and instead of picking it up the staff stands around talking to each other right near the mess, It seems like they are trying to become a poorly ran amusement park, but not a luxury hotel. I left a day early and went to a real luxury property and we immediately became happy. This hotel sucked totally for us for 2 stays a year apart. Fairmont definitely does not stand for quality if they ruin properties and customer experiences this badly.

One of the finest hotels we've ever had the pleasure of staying in. Beautifully appointed with well cared for grounds. The food was delicious in all the outlets, the service was second to none. We really enjoyed ourselves here, I'd highly recommend this property to anyone coming to southern California, cheers

I've been to international hotels including The Ritz-Carlton Laguna Beach, The Montage in Laguna, Taj 51 in London to name a few and this Fairmont Grand Del Mar stands tall amongst its competitors. From the moment you step out of your car in valet to the reception with hot towels & an escort down the hall to your bellman to the wonderful top-notch service at the pool, you feel you are the only one at the hotel. I loved how it wasn't too crowded as you entered the lobby on a Friday night at 8pm. You are welcomed at the spa desk with a squirt of a beautiful scent only to be memorialized as you witness a clean and beautifully-kept spa facility in the details like the small herbs on top of the paper towels/tolled hot towels as well as the large outdoor terrace with ample lounge chairs that call you to them. It was a bit crowded at the adult pool but there was enough space between you and the rest of them to fall asleep. Like I said before, it's the customer service that is what sets apart the Fairmont Grand Del Mar. I even asked for my favorite Chinese dish at the concierge - they asked for my cell and they text me 2 local options that deliver! And guess what....Door Dash delivered and I got my favorite dish in the comfort of my own hotel room. It was the best birthday weekend with the service, facilities, and attention to detail. The gift shop was closed momentarily (probably a restroom break) when I needed to buy some sunglasses but I didn't mind because the chairs right outside in the hallway were super comfortable and, again, there weren't that many people to be distracted by. I so appreciated the quietness and stillness coming from this full-time working teacher who has 3 kids! Some gift shops have very little but this one was fully stocked! I loved perusing the kids section, book area, jewelry case, and sunglasses shelves. Finally, I can't say better things about the 600 sq ft King bedroom! Wow, it was lovely, large, and comfortable! Especially the L-shaped couch! We ordered in-room dining for breakfast and the service was impeccable! IN fact, there was a supervisor who was overseeing the server's service! Again, attention to detail....loved the bath salts, the weight scale, the large closet area and the deep bathtub that I got to use TWICE! Thanks Fairmont Staff for everything....we may have not been to Addison or Amaya, but we enjoyed the room, spa and pool. We will be back!
