F rating for the Iberostar Cozumel

Aaron B (Los Angeles, California) on May 04, 2024

If I could give this place zero Stars I would. DO NOT STAY HERE. The AC barely worked. Rooms were hot and humid. WiFi doesn’t work. Room smelt like SH**T. We checked in and checked out the same day. I don’t know how this place is even in business. The front desk person said they were upgrading us and we were so excited about that….until we got to the room. It was a double bed instead of a king bed. They said they could move us to a king bed the next day when we booked a king bed on our reservation. Anyways you get the point. Stay far away from this property.

Thank you Alexia and staff!!

Rob C on May 04, 2024

My only real complaint would be the sewer smell made it difficult to enjoy the shows. Our room had a flood one night, staff moved us very quickly. Our new room had problems with the tv (not a big deal really). The staff have been great, very friendly. Chef Alexia was amazing, my partner has gluten allergies and Alexia made sure that there were options at each meal. Even going as far as bringing her special plates at a few meals. Made a very big difference!

Relaxed vacation spot with great wildlife spotting in and out of the water

Ming H (Salt Lake City, Utah) on May 04, 2024

My 11 yo son and I came to relax and snorkel over spring break. Dressel Divers is right on site and Akatzin was an amazing guide for our day and night trips. The night snorkel was a unique way to see the reef that we highly recommend, saw different creatures than during the day. I also enjoyed the morning yoga and stretch sessions with Manolo, and it was great to see all sorts of wildlife (Morpho butterfly, macaw, coatis, iguanas) on our morning walks.

Great Resort!

70racer on May 01, 2024

Wonderful place to relax and unwind. The resort itself is well kept and has great landscaping. The food is great and there are plenty of choices from where to order drinks during the day. The beach is nice it is a bit rocky but they built a dock that you can walk down and then stairs off the sides of the dock to enjoy the sea without having to cross the underwater rocks. We preferred the pools when they did not have activities because it was quiter but when they do the activities you can always go down by the beach and relax seaside. The resort has plenty of activities for you to do as well both by the pool and other locations within the resort. The nightly activies were probably what I would rate the best the rock show/concert was really good. I would recommend this resort to anyone who asks. The only negative thing I could say is sometimes at night where they would perform the shows if the wind would shift in a certain direction you would smell sewage. By no means would you smell it during the day or anywhere on the grounds it was only at night and in that one location. Like I said though I would go back in a heartbeat it was a great vacation and stay!

5th time back

Vacation14010254374 (Ontario, Canada) on May 01, 2024

Just returned from my 5th visit to Iberostar Cozumel, and it didn't disappoint as usual. My family has been coming to the resort since 2010, and we keep coming back for the incredible food, people, and overall experience. To us, we consider the resort itself 4 stars while the staff make it 5 stars. Now for the specifics... STAR FRIENDS & ENTERTAINMENT The Star friends as always are the people that make our trip so memorable. They work long hours on the resort to bring guests games, sports, and events to keep people busy. They are very quick to learn your name and what activities you enjoy participating in. Special shoutout to Daniella in particular for her incredible energy and passion that she puts into her role. Whether it's 10 am or 10pm, Daniella puts her all into the role, even when she's tired. Max is another great star friend we met during our stay, and he was always very warm, welcoming, and eager to create positive experiences, despite being newer to the team. I will always remember Fabian as well for his sense of humor as he always made us crack up. We didn't get to see Monti as often with our schedule, but she also puts a lot of energy into her role. More credit should be granted towards this amazing crew and all they do for guests. We had lots of good laughs and great memories were made. DIVING & SNORKELING This is my 3rd time diving through dressel divers on resort and it was amazing as normal. Unfortunately it was the end of the spotted eagle ray season, so I didn't see any of them this trip; however, there were so many other neat creatures to spot instead and the divemasters put a lot of focus on pointing out everything for divers to see. If you're contemplating doing a night dive, %100 go for it. It is a completely different experience from daytime as all the sea life comes out to party. It feels like you're witnessing a totally different planet. Strong currents unfortunately closed a few dive sites over the week, but overall it was still a positive experience repeating the same sites as we saw something different every time. Special shoutout to the boat captains and hands, Koga, Francisco, Lauren, and Hector for making the dives great. As for snorkeling, DO NOT book through resorts lobby/front desk excursion option. Book directly through the dressel divers shop on resort. We heard many bad reviews of the off site tours booked through the iberostar lobby/excursion desk in terms of rushing people around, not visiting many sites, dropping people in crowded sites, and people getting kicked with fins often due to the lack of safety briefing and supervision. On the other hand, we booked a snorkeling tour online straight through dressel divers on site. This tour left straight from the resort with Lauren as our guide, and we visited 3 different sites- one with more of a reef to see different fish, a turtle populated site, a star fish area, and the boat stopped in a shallow spot to enjoy a drink in the water afterwards. Night snorkeling was also a unique experience offered. RESORT & HOSPITALITY From our first visit in 2010 until now, we have not noticed a lot of renovations being done. With the combination of the smaller rooms and some updating to be done, we consider the resort 4 stars in this case. As for the hospitality staff, they have been very friendly. Waitstaff Victor in particular was very attentive while serving us. We were disappointed though in the change of attitudes towards returning customers. In the past, there was no issue with requesting a room change to a certain side of the resort (not an upgrade or pool/ocean view request). With this trip, that was not the case as they now charge more money for this. The warm hospitality in the past towards returning guests is part of what made us feel welcomed, and to have the focus turned towards making more money instead was disappointing to say the least. The wildlife on the resort was also great. Lots of cotamundis, peacocks, flamingos, iguanas, and of course the local celebrity Pepe the parrot who hangs out in the lobby. FOOD The food was amazing and it had definitely improved from our previous trips. We are not picky eaters, and we definitely had many many options. It was a struggle to narrow them down. There seemed to be a good mix of food types as well as gluten free and vegetarian options. Vegan options seemed to be limiting though, which is room for improvement. We were impressed with the commitment staff were making to ensure expectations and needs were being met. We often saw Alexia chatting with guests about how to improve the offerings. Overall, we had a great time and we are looking forward to hopefully returning one day.
