    My husband and I just got back today from 4 nights at Portofino Bay. We visit Disney yearly and always stay at the Grand Floridian or the Polynesian. This year we decided to make a change and visit Universal instead. So we choose Portofino bay which is supposed to be a top tier hotel for this area. Honestly I am so happy to be home and out of that disgusting place. Hotel- front desk staff was just ok. Nothing at all like the service you receive from Disney. When we were assigned our room I truly though they made a mistake as we were walking to it. First impression should have proven to me a lot. Hallways looked like they were CLOSED. I really thought we were just lost and that we couldn’t possibly be walking to our room. Carpet was old dirty worn and just rundown. Walls had holes everywhere. This is why I thought we somehow were lost. But nope. Our room was in this hallway. First impression of the room was decent. It appeared large, extra spacious and maybe even pretty. However that ended immediately. Upon looking around we noticed shredded bedskirt, FILTHY FILTHY carpet. And I can’t say FILTHY enough!!! Stains everywhere!!!!!! When we moved the curtain 2 days into our 4 night stay we noticed Bright red stains by the window. Dark brown stains on the side of the bed, the desk had crumbs on it. The molding had layers and layers of dust. The sheets were paper thin. The shutters between the room and the bathroom had brown smear on them. By the next morning I texted the front desk and they did offer to move us. But I will admit I wasn’t convinced that we wouldn’t share the same experience in a different room. And to add the inconvenience with kids and moving rooms and taking park time away, we decided not too. We were then offered $100 credit. Ok. Fine. Additionally we were told someone would be up to shampoo the carpet first thing in the morning. We left for the parks early and came back on night 2 to the carpet with the same stains on it, unmade beds and replaced towels that as I opened them to use for my son had holes all over. In addition to wrappers that weren’t ours on the carpet. Once again I contact the front desk and since they failed to clean the room as promised they comped our dinner that night. Once again I was promised a deep clean of our room the following day. Next day we come back to the same wrapper on the floor and besides for the beds being made and giving us 20 bottles of toiletries the room was just as dirty. I never ever will recommend staying here. Portofino needs to take a lesson from nearby Disney hotels. To me cleanliness is the most important part of a hotel stay and if that can’t be delivered the resort has failed. Also the artificial smell that is pumped into the main lobby was atrocious. It smelled like old lady cheap perfume. We dined at BICE the first night and it was awful. I tried very hard to like the hotel but the unkept worn down old DIRTY rooms ruined it forever for me. I’m so upset Bc we probably should have checked out immediately. I will be contacting Costco travel in the morning (that’s who I booked this trip with ) as well as American Express. Stay away from this gross establishment. Trust me. I hardly write reviews but this one deserves it

    Everyone encountered at this facility was courteous and helpful! Highly recommend. Also, very convenient to Universal studios via water taxi. And, when you come back tired and hungry, hit up Sal's for some excellent food without fighting the crowd at City Walk.

    Outstanding Service and Beautiful Hotel

    We love, love, love this hotel. The staff is, if anything, overly friendly and helpful. Mama Della's is YUMMY! The singers on the balcony in the evening are fantastic. We had a Minion family room that overlooked the harbor and was directly above the boat dock. It was a perfect location and a fantastic room with a balcony. We loved it. Having a separate room for the kids was ideal since we were spending 6 nights there with a fair amount of down time in the room and at the pool. There was really nothing to complain about at this hotel. The rooms were well appointed and clean. Lots of fluffy towels for our family of 4 came in handy. We ate at Mama Della's, the Beach Pool and ordered pizza one night from Sal's. In all cases, we were pleased (although, the food really stood out as being delicious at Mama Dellas). The drinks were yummy by the pool, and wine was plentiful at other spots. We, of course, also got gelato one night, which was also very tasty. The boat service runs very regularly and is super easy to get back and forth from the parks. We also took the bus to the water park, which worked fine - although this does not run quite as often. I would absolutely stay at this hotel again. Kudos to the management at this hotel for having such a well-trained, helpful staff! They were all phenomenal! Also - if we hadn't have had our kids with us, we would have gladly joined into the 4 times a year - Harbor Nights Event that was going on while we were there. Instead, we enjoyed the festivities from our balcony. Looks great, though. We also spent a fair amount of time at the Beach Pool. With 2 hot tubs, comfy chairs with umbrellas, drink/food service at your seat and lots of kid activities, this was a hit for the whole family. I can highly recommend this hotel for your next visit to Universal.

    Construction was taking place during our stay. Made it impossible to relax and enjoy our room. The resort was average. Wish we had stayed at the Hard Rock because they at least had an area to wash your clothing.

    All of my days was amazing. Staff are very very kindly and helpful. The Mama's restaurant are awesome. The Taxi boat works very well. Business area are great, lunch is ok. The scenario of the Hotel is fantastic.
