Please be advised that Loews Portofino Bay Hotel will be making repairs to the façade of the hotel from late-July 2023 – December 2024 to maintain the immersive experience of the Italian village.
The external façade of the buildings will be repaired, and new windows and doors will be installed.
Areas where repairs are in progress may be visible to guests, depending on the location of their room within the hotel. Most common areas of the hotel and food and beverage outlets will remain available for guest use. There may be modifications required in certain areas as work is being completed.
All work will be done during business hours 9am – 6pm. These repairs are being done one section at a time and may be visible to guests. Guests can expect noise from time to time.
All efforts will be made to minimize impact to guests.

All of these benefits are available from the moment you arrive until midnight on the day you check out. Even if your room won’t be ready until the afternoon, you can register at your hotel as early in the morning as you like, leaving your bags and retrieving your Express Passes (if eligible) in time for the Early Park Admission hour. Then linger at the resort after your checkout time, taking advantage of your pool privileges until late in the evening.

Beautiful hotel

To start, let me say that I was here for a conference so I paid a significantly lower rate than the standard rate. So some of my review may be skewed by people's impression of what they got "for the money." I thought the hotel was beautiful and very clean. It is a bit confusing with all the stairs but I eventually figured it out. The front desk staff and staff greeting me in the lobby were very attentive. They even gave us and the kids free gelato samples at check in. The beach and villa pools were gorgeous and very warm even though it was cold in Florida while we were there. At 8pm it was 55 degrees and kids were still swimming. The pool chairside service for drinks and food was also wonderful. I do wish the hotel had a full size "quick service" restaurant as an easier/cheaper food option. They have the little coffee shop and with a few options but it's not the same. Random tip: It's actually a very short walk to Hard Rock and a very short walk from Hard Rock to Universal Studios.
Huge disappointment

Have used Universal cheaper hotels on numerous occasions but booked in to their Premium as a special birthday celebration, which the hotel knew about. Unlike Disney and other Universal hotels - nothing one special at all. Hidden charges with parking even though you pay a fortune for hotel. Rooms were ok - nothing special. Toilet not separate from bathroom. Even though hotel is no smoking - corridors and areas stink of smoked Cannabis this appears to be Ignored by hotel staff. Lobby shop poor and tacky- not a lot of choice. Starbucks has the best menu on site. Our stays at Cabana Bay are more pleasant more facilities, better atmosphere, more choices and friendlier staff. On a plus - Housekeeping was fantastic. Water taxi and walk to Universal were the highlights.
