Worst Management Staff Ever

Kim P on Apr 27, 2024

We were so excited about this trip and a friend of mine had stayed here as well. It will be the last time I ever stay at this resort!! The hotel is very outdated and most of the time only 1 elevator worked. Most of the time, there were only 2 restaurants open at a time. The food was awful at the places we did eat except for the buffet. We had to ask for washcloths as they were not provided, but housekeeping provided very quickly! The bartending staff was amazing, always attentive and kind. What made this trip horrible was the treatment from the management staff during a life threatening emergency. My husband became very ill and on the last day of trip, he became very disoriented to the point he could barely stand or walk. And no, he doesn’t drink. My first encounter with the staff was when my husband fell in the bathroom and broke the toilet tank cover. I immediately notified the management and understood we were responsible. They told us the charge would be $100 plus $35 to sweep the bathroom floor. There was nothing on the floor as I had already cleaned it up. The second encounter was when I notified them again as we needed to have the sheets changed due to my husband being sick! They charged me another $35 to change the sheets! The last encounter was when I had to call for EMTs. This is where the management staff had not regard to what was happening with my husband. The EMTs were trying to figure out what was going on and to get him to the hospital! They couldn’t take him on a stretcher as the elevator are not designed for an emergency on the 6th floor or any floor! But how the management staff treated me was the worse! They stood at my doorway with a credit card machine demanding that I pay for $160 before I left! They made me feel that this $160 was more important than my husband and that I couldn’t leave before paying. They had no empathy, no sympathy, no compassion that my husband was near death and needed to get to hospital ASAP! They could have handled it son much differently! Like say don’t worry about it or “we can charge it to your room” anything. But they didn’t. It was the most humiliating experience knowing my husband could die! I am not saying I should not had paid, but to stand there until I pay before we could leave is beyond words! Be very cautious if you ever fall into an emergency situation. Stay away from this resort for many reasons!!

Rollercoaster of a Honeymoon

Danny W on Apr 27, 2024

In all honesty, this could have been a 2 star review, but also a 5 star review. Such a strange, wonderful, but ran down place. Room - the rooms are so unbelievably outdated. It’s like staying in a European hostel in the 90’s. Everything is just old and whilst the cleaners were superb by the way, so so clean, the rooms are really outdated. Pillows were also terrible. Our toilet flooded and woke us up one morning which wasn’t great but not surprising, and the taps sometimes make the loudest humming/screeching noise throughout the night. Funnily enough as I’m writing this review the ceiling has just fell through in the lobby area due to a leak - says it all really. Food / Restaurants - you get given a schedule when you arrive of the opening days and times of each place to eat…..bin it, because it’s not true to practice. The “Shangra La” is their top level restaurant, opened once during our 2 week stay. The Old Barn, not great, service is slow and difficult to get on with. Pier 12 is okay, but the service is poor and the food is average. The day time back bar was really good, chicken wings, burgers chips etc. The buffet area was very good, lots of variety to choose from and the team on the stations were great! Cocktails are very good and with premium spirits on request. Bars - one bar, Sixties. In a sentence - avoid it all costs. Pool area - great pool area over looking the beach / sea, always very clean and well maintained. My advice if you want a parasol, get there early and don’t move as an episode of “Parasol Wars” just might happen! Enough sunbeds for everyone though. Day time entertainment were fantastic, Rosie and Martin keep the place alive during the day. Music is absolutely terrible though, more funeral home music than pool area music. Staff - the bar area staff, Octavio, Oscar and Jose to name a few were amazing. Treated like royalty and just an absolute pleasure to be served by, whether that is at breakfast of cocktails at the pool bar area. The staff make the state of the hotel more reasonable. The bellhops are incredibly annoying in all honesty, awkwardly want to carry your bags etc at every opportunity, actually running up towards you, and then standing there, with what feels like expecting a tip. Excursions - we approached the excursion people inside the hotel a couple of times, their prices were double the prices found on booking.com, although they priced matched every time, the audacity to charge double in the first place and then jump down to the quote you get online straight away is slightly embarrassing - but still I’d much rather give them cash than use an online global company in all honesty. Would just be nicer if they were honest with the prices in the first place. Overall - facilities wise , I’d say it was average in some areas and below average in the majority. The staff make this place what it is in my opinion, you can tell by the amount of returning customers who we’ve met over the past 2 weeks who say they come back for the people, not necessarily for the hotel. If the hotel had a refurb and an update it would be an incredibly amazing place.
