This was our 3rd time to Mexico staying at serenis and riu previously.
This hotel is very clean with lovely staff the only thing that lets it down is the buffet restaurant this was a big let down the food selection and display were very poor, we actually went to the Maya for buffet if we were not booked into the restaurants available (you get 6 choices for 2 weeks stay)as they had a better selection and was displayed much better.
Night time theatre the team worked really hard and put on some excellent shows but the theatre is not open plan but upstairs and very hot, again we went to Maya as open air theatre.
We had a lovely time the beach is beautiful

A family holiday to celebrate my Son’s 25th Birthday and we had a great time. First impression of the hotel was big, open and beautiful. Playacar is a gated area and felt secured. All staff and entrainment crew are super friendly and hardworking. Sea and white sandy beach was stunning.
Room was very specious, comfy bed and excellent AC. My only grumble with the room was there was no kettle to make tea and only teabags were available was camomile tea. I tried to explain to the housekeeping lady if I could have some normal tea, she didn’t understand.
Hotel entertainment crew are the credit to the hotel, they work tirelessly to keep guests entertained and engaged. Tried all 3 speciality restaurants, loved Bamboo and Italian one. Hotel app was super helpful and easy to use.
Main restaurant food was good, some dishes are repeated daily and some strange dish selections for breakfast, for example beef mince curry, or chicken curry, but one can find plenty to eat. All staff members of the restaurants were pleasant and helpful.
All bar staff works extremely hard and always pleasant. Some great selections of cocktails. Pool area was nice and I went in the pool first time in my life to get sone relief from the constant sweating. There were to fans in the pool bar and very little breeze from the sea.
Mexico is a hot country, but we are not new to the hot weather; it was extremely humid, which made it very uncomfortable at times. Apart from the bed rooms and two speciality restaurants, there was no AC in the common areas. Main restaurant can get extremely hot during the meal times, at times it was very uncomfortable to enjoy the food while you are sweating profusely. There were 2 large fans, however it didn’t manage to keep the heat down. Main bar area and the theatre had the same thyme. My husband and I only watched 2 evening shows, as the heat was very uncomfortable. Hotel have a lot of indoor plants and garden around, causing a lot of Mosquitoes and other insects. We were bitten all over, tried repellents and bite cream; nothing helped. Hotel should make some effort to control the mosquitoes. We went to playa del Carmen 5th Avenue couple of times, loved the beach, not the shopping strips. Loved chichen Itzá. Tulum, Coba and Isla Mujeres. We enjoyed our holiday to Mexico and the hotel. Made some great memories. We will come back someday. Thank you Viva Wyndham Azteca for the time we enjoyed with you all.
