Poor experience

Doug040652 (Norwich, United Kingdom) on Feb 25, 2024

Lack of trained staff No pool attendants (lifeguard) ever seen poolside as posted Spices restaurant never open for dinner as advertised online Some restaurants desperately needed their “aid conditioning” regulated On arrival there was no concierge available While relaxing at our pool beside "red lane" spar treatment clinic we had to endure staff riding bye on the three wheeled bike delivering to “portofino’s” restaurant and Most annoying of all was when again garden staff turned up very close to poolside, armed with their chainsaws to remove three palm trees and then proceed to carried all waste past those who were trying to relax poolside leaving debris behind. Also on more than one occasion gardening staff working close by using their petrol machined equipment including strimmers, blowers, generator for pressure washer, not the best smell while trying to relax in the “fresh Caribbean air” La Parisienne restaurant was by far the best on site While waiting in the Cafe de Paris there was a member of the gardening staff, in all his work clothes serving himself behind the bar, using the blender to make himself a soy milk blended drink. Hardly what you would expect to see in any cafe considering hygiene standards etc. While in portofino’s one evening for dinner clearly a staff member had no idea what she was doing when started to “top-up” my wine without asking with a different white wine that was already in there Our room was very comfortable and kept clean Some areas around the site need to have the path/walk ways inspected for repair and made safe

Beautiful Barbados Escape

Alesha W (Ashburn, Virginia) on Feb 24, 2024

We had a great time at Sandals Barbados and the Royal side too. Our room was on the Sandals Barbados but you really can walk through both resorts and not know which is which, they are side by side and completely open to each other. The beach is beautiful, the grounds are immaculately kept by the landscaping team. Every corner of the resort was beautiful thanks to that team. We enjoyed the food at every place that we tried, it was impossible to eat everywhere in 7 days since there are so many restaurants. Foodwise, the standouts to us were Bombay, Butch's Chophouse, the Jerk Shack, and Schooners. We had breakfast at Spices many mornings, once at Schooners, and once at the Greenhouse, all were good. I especially like the orange juice press machine at Spices and trying the local food they had on the buffet. The service at most places was great. Bombay, Butch's Chophouse, and Butch's Steak and Seafood had outstanding service. We found all of the employees to be friendly and kind. There were no negative staff encounters, the "worst" of our interactions were still polite and respectful, perhaps not enthusiastic which is fine. Sometimes employees are very busy, or tired, or having a not so great day but no one was ever rude or made us feel unwelcome. Special recognition to Joy, Cheneece, Josiah, Kemar, Nicola, Glory (housekeeping), Haldaine (loyalty office), Oral (infinity pool bar) Dwane (Spices bar), the entire Sky Bar staff, the Merry Monkey bar staff, Courtney (bus driver). There were a few employees where I failed to write down their name or they were not wearing a name tag but truly everyone was very nice and most went out of their way to be extra friendly and helpful. Our room category was 1B in the Bajan building. After reading reviews, I was a little worried but the room was very nice and everything was in working order and just fine. This was our 2nd Sandals and 3rd Sandals owned property as we have also been to Beaches Negril. We look forward to trying another Sandals next year.

Not a very good experience

I would first like to say that my wife and myself have been traveling with sandals for the past 23 years. Over these years we have seen a steady decline in the maintenance of the property And a very unfriendly staff. When we arrived at Sandals Barbados on the 12th of February 2024 and were given a room the air conditioning and the room did not work. After informing the front desk of the situation they indicated they would try and move me to another room by this time it was already 9:30 in the evening. I contacted the front desk to let them know that we would stay in the room for one night and that they would have to move us the next day. They finally did move us the next morning to a room that had air conditioning that worked. Sandals claims to be a five-star resort but it is far from that in our opinion at best it is no more than a three star resort. The furniture in the rooms are very old and outdated the bathroom sink had cracks in the porcelain and there was also mold at the base of the shower. Now I would like to tell you about the staff on the property in my wife's opinion and mine the majority of the staff at Barbados are very rude They will walk by you like you do not exist they and when they do look at you they look at you with contempt. If we say Good morning to them They would barely acknowledge you. When the original owner Butch Stewart of Sandals everything at sandals ran like a 5 star resort. After Butch Stewart passed away and his son has taken over in our opinion everything on all of their properties have continuously declined in maintenance and Cleanliness. I cannot emphasize enough how rude the majority of the staff at Barbados were also the resort does not provide any type of floating For the pools if you want a floaty you have to bring your own. It is unbelievable to me when sandals used to provide floaties at every pool that you now have to purchase your own and bring them with you to the resort. We would also like to bring attention to even in the tire they now allow their guests to come to the reservation restaurant with shorts and even wearing flip flops. They have a returning guest dinner for all the returning guests which used to be a very nice experience to attend but now when you go to this returning guest dinner they are allowed to wear shorts and sandals. And the majority of the guests that we spoke to indicated to us the biggest issue they had was how rude the staff was to them and other guests. Me and my wife truly do not Enjoy right in this type of review for sandals. But the upper level of Management need to understand what's going on with their properties. They truly need to focus on retraining the staff to be more guest friendly I do not believe there was one day that went by in the 10 days that we stayed there that I was not aggravated with a staff member.

Fun in the Sun

alanaM3208NS (North Bay, Canada) on Feb 23, 2024

We loved our time at Sandals Barbados and spent a lot of time at Sandals Royal Barbados. This is our 4th Sandals. The staff at both were amazing and very accommodating. Every request was fulfilled promptly. The entertainment was super- amazing dancing and singing. We were Club Class. The rooms definitely need upgrading and work. The drywall leaves something to be desired! Our room had a tub/ shower combo that was quite challenging to get into. I would definitely insist on a walk-in shower which is what our friends had. But our biggest complaint was the morning lounge chair issue- we were out at 5:45 each morning in order to get chairs with an umbrella. People who pay for Butler service had the Butlers out at 6:00 putting signs on all the chairs to reserve them. I guess paying for Butler service is the way to go unless you want to be up very early each day and it is a scramble! Shade is definitely needed as the sun is so intense. The food at the restaurants was super. We loved the breeze but it could make the ocean very rough to swim. Pools were amazing.
