Sandals Barbados: Very nice but…

Kevin P on Feb 04, 2025

Lovely resort on a lovely beach. Not perfect but still very good. We had a few service issues related to airport pick up and pre-ordered items birthday items for our room. Melissa, the Guest Experience Manager, was fantastic at addressing the issues and turned what could have been a disappointing week into a very enjoyable one.

3rd time. It's still excellent.

jont33 (Dartford, United Kingdom) on Feb 04, 2025

Here, now. It's excellent. 3rd time in 4 years. Food, pools, staff, grounds, rooms, reception, beach. All beautiful. Water choppy, the way I like it. Beach chairs towels moved at 1001 hrs by me. No problem at all. When the couple turned up at 1100 ish, I smiled, and pointed at their stuff, I smiled. Job done. If you're rude, you will receive rudeness. Don't be rude. Servers are minimum wage, hard workers. Talk to them. I don't understand the negativity. Enjoy it all. We are, & will return.

Beautiful Friendly place to stay. Highly recommend

JStockleyFam (Lisbon, New Hampshire) on Feb 03, 2025

The resort was beautiful! The room very comfortable, plenty of room, nice balcony. The staff was super friendly and always offer a good day or how can we help. Plenty of pools and chairs to sit at. You seem to find the one that fits your personality and stay there for the day or days. The beach was nice, water very warm and a nice place to swim. No snorkeling but lots of other ocean activities if you wanted to. Lots of variety for food. Once again I think personal preference is key in that area. We tried a different dinner place every night and were never disappointed. We preferred breakfast at the Spices buffet the couple we were with liked the American Buffet at Royal Barbados because it was inside. You could easily walk between resorts and enjoy all the amenities at both.

Anniversary trip - great stay!

Colin O (Indian Land, South Carolina) on Feb 02, 2025

This is the second time that my wife and I have stayed at a Sandals (first was 10 years ago at Halcyon in St. Lucia) and we probably enjoyed this trip a bit more. Don't really understand the overly negative reviews. It wasn't perfect and I get that people pay a lot of money to stay here, but we enjoyed our time. Positives: -There really was no difference between Sandals Barbados and Royal Barbados, it is basically just one big resort. Some of the restaurants on the Royal side were actually closer to our room and there's never really a point where it feels like you are crossing from one resort to the other. The map actually made things appear much bigger than they were, very easy to get around! -We liked the variety of restaurants here, particularly the breakfast options where I could just grab a quick doughnut or grab an iced coffee if I didn't want to sit down for a buffet. -We only had to wait once for any sit down restaurant (about 15 min) for the breakfast buffet one morning. And never had any issues with getting reservations to those that required it. -My wife and I are both primarily beer drinkers so it was nice to have Lovers Lane (about 10-12 craft beers) when we didn't want a fruity sugary cocktail at that time. -Really enjoyed meals at Portofino's (liked the open air dining and even went there twice in our 6 nights), Kimono's, Jerk Shack (great jerk sauce and incredibly quick service), Heart and Sol and Sweet and Salty's. -Tons of bars around and rarely a wait for a drink! I felt that the drinks were made pretty strong! -No bugs anywhere (we went late January so I can't speak to other times of the year) -Wifi worked great both in rooms and common areas (had to take a zoom call at one point and no issues at all) Negatives: -I didn't feel like the staff was overly friendly like I remember in St. Lucia. Of course, there were lots of friendly staff that we met, but just felt like some people didn't really want to be there. -Butch's (at Sandals Barbados) was incredibly slow, took 2 hours from sit down to finishing dessert. Our steaks were also cooked very close to well done rather than our requested medium. Didn't ruin our meal, but I think for some that may have. -Dino's pizza was incredibly slow at lunch time. Be prepared for a wait of around 30 minutes. Mariner is attached to it and significantly quicker. -Wouldn't recommend Merry Monkey pub unless you love English food. Very long wait (despite only a couple other guests there at the time) and the waitress was by far the unfriendliest person we encountered during our time there. -Waited on the bus for about 30 minutes after getting in from the airport, as they were waiting on more flights/guests to come in I am assuming. From then, we waited about 30 minutes at concierge for our room to be ready even though it was already past check in (didn't get to our room until around 4:50pm) Overall, I would recommend this hotel to others, don't worry about the negative comments. If you are looking for a quiet hotel to relax and with lots of food options, I think this is a good spot. Definitely a lot of older couples (not positive if that is always the case or had more to do with going in late January) so wouldn't go here expecting a ton of nightlife if you are into that. Didn't venture off the resort at all or do any excursions so can't speak to that.
