Not quite 5 star!

Anthony S on Feb 04, 2023

We stayed here for 9 nights. Great location, lovely beach, good food and facilities. A bit hit and miss on supplies, service and attitude. Constantly running out of things, staff rolling eyes asking for a cappuccino, poor communication on where stuff is and the leaving process. 11am check out….4pm pick up….no spare rooms. Lugging stuff about the site to have showers and get changed. Another big pain was the restaurant booking process……one person making the bookings for all restaurants for all guests…..a tortuous procedure! Soo much potential to be truly 5 star but does not quite make it. Loved Barbados!

Great Resort, shame about the majority of the staff

welshlady1978 (Cardiff, United Kingdom) on Feb 03, 2023

We travelled as 2 couples in January 2023 and it was our 5th time at Sandals but our 1st time in Barbados. We had a butler suite and our butlers were great. Every restaurant we asked to go to they booked us in and got us beds by the pool but that is literally all we needed from them. Jack in the merry monkey was also great, friendly, fun and nothing was too much trouble The chef we had in kimonos - Christopher was also great, fantastic food and an entertaining chef. Most other staff were unfriendly and rude especially in Cafe de Paris On arrival we were collected from the airport in a 4 seater taxi (squashed in with another couple who we had never met!) Got to the resort, reception staff didn't want to check us in as they said 'the butler needed to do it' In the end someone did show us to our room after we had waited for 15 mins ( after a 9 hour flight and 90 min wait for luggage) but told us we needed to wait for the butler. We did wait for 30 mins but our friends (who we hadn't see for 3 years!) were waiting for us so we left the room and the butler had to come and find us, we were not wasting any more time. The resort is beautiful, beach is gorgeous although the local 'sellers' are annoying. Food is hit and miss, Kimonos was the best meal, butchs overcooked the steak on the 2 occasions we attended and the food at Soy was so salty - we were all ill the next day. Experience in cafe de Paris was awful, staff there are so rude but the Milkshakes and ice cream were tasty Vast majority of the staff are rude and everything is an effort for them, it's such a shame and a real dissapointment. It's definately not a 5 star service here and for the amount of money it costs it really should be a shining sample and a flag ship for Sandals. There were so many times we were spoken to rudely. We tried to be polite to every member of staff, smiling, saying please and thank you but this was just not reciprocated. My friend did complain via the App whilst at the resort and an immediate response was received where they asked if we wanted to meet with a manager. We said we did but they never came back to provide a time and dodged our request when we queried why they hadnt come back to us Would I go here again? Yes as the resort is lovely but Sandals really need to up their game at this resort it's not a patch on the friendly Jamaica resorts.

Save your money

EnglishTravellerCB on Feb 02, 2023

I travel to Barbados at least twice per year and have done so since 2016. I therefore consider myself to be a reasonable judge of what's good and what not out here and Sandals is firmly in the not good camp. Service is slow, inconsistent and often quite rude. Food is very average with small portions, albeit I guess this is symptomatic of all-inclusive? Trying to leave and enter the property via the front gate is like entering a prison camp as until you have given your room number you can't enter, ok I understand this, but equally you can't leave either. Far too big, far too impersonal and just not worth the money

Great beach front rooms but service was inconsistent

GCOMOM (Greeley, Colorado) on Feb 01, 2023

Our room with a view in the royal building was fantastic! Morning sunrise and sunset views from our patio. Enjoyed breakfast on our patio every morning! I am a bath tub person and having a tub on the patio was such a treat!! We signed up for the Butler service and a special shout out to Kittlecia who was part of our butler team. Although we enjoyed Jeremy and Archibald as well, hands down our favorite was Kittlecia. It is expensive to have the service but not worrying about getting a beach chair or a reservation was wonderful. I found the service from our butler team to be excellent. I could have used less walking me to restaurants but when I needed anything they were very responsive. I would rate our experience overall with the bar service to be average to sub par. I have never been at a resort where it seemed that the guests were an inconvenience to many bartenders. We also found that they were out of a lot of liquor items. It seemed like the bars were unstaffed and understocked. Considering what it costs to stay here that was very disappointing. the beach was wonderful! i walked it every day and was pleased by the shoreline and distance i could get in while walking. i felt very safe. No surprise to find weed offerings on the beach but they respected you said no. We had a couple's massage while we were here and it was wonderful. We also liked the hibatshi restaurant. The hot dogs at the beach were tasty, had to stand in line a long time but good. Pizza Dino’s at the beach was enjoyed twice by my husband. I was disappointed that there weren’t a lot of local vendors brought in to our hotel. There were a couple but not what I am use to seeing. We took the “city shopping experience” to Bridgetown and I would give that excursion a 3/10. Basically a taxi ride there and a pick up. No guide. We like to see the local culture but this excursion was a waste of time and money. The resort was very clean and so were our rooms, loved that! If it wasn’t for the service I would have given a 4 star for sure. Also, night entertainment wasn’t until 9 and after a full day on the beach we wished it could have started at 8. Or had an early entertainment option and a later option for those that prefer to eat later. It was nice that sandals and sandals royal are so close, we enjoyed the amenities at both locations. Much closer then other sandals that we have visited. In fact you really didn’t know you were leaving one and going to another. We preferred sandals Barbados because the rooms were beach front. Several pools on both properties although we are beach people. The weather was a 5/5!! 80-85 and no rain the entire time we were there. Fairly close to airport, free shuttle service. All and all a good trip because we wanted warm weather! We hope to try out Antiqua next and hope for better service.

Superb Barbadian Holiday

clarewG2209VR on Feb 01, 2023

Had a wonderful stay at Sandals Barbados, our trip was made special by our butlers, Tony, Tremayne and Raheyme who looked after us impeccably. Nothing was to much trouble, and they helped make our stay very enjoyable. There are a large numbers of restaurants, with a variety to meet everyone’s taste. We would also like to mention Annette in Spices, for her wonderful smile and great service.
