Divi Flamingo and Divi Dive
ACMAY (Panama City Beach, Florida) on Sep 25, 2023
We have been coming to Divi Flamingo for over 20 years and always stayed in the studio rooms. Our studio room had some issues (broken coffee pot, ceiling fan didn't work, microwave didn't work) that were addressed by maintenance, Pedro showed up and dealt with it with a smile. The pool by the studios has been redone, however, as of end of August, there are no umbrellas or any type of shade. Notice said there was a delay in getting supplies shipped I believe. Cruise ship schedule is posted on the board by the dive shop. They seem to leave at different times. One Friday early evening in town it was a zoo of people and cars, the cruise ship didn't leave until 10 PM. We had an unfortunate issue with the assistant dive shop manager that was addressed and dealt with Divi Corporate after our return. However, it was not the best way to start our vacation though. The dive boats still leave from the South dock, it's a bit of a treck from the studio rooms, about a 4 min walk. First week only two dive boats were scheduled, so not too crowded. Second week 3 boats scheduled to leave at the same time, it was congested and crowded. The divers on our boat always showed up early so we opted for an earlier departure time. It seems staggering departure times may be a good idea in general to avoid this problem. Also, the second week there was some work being done on the dock to provide shade for the lockers and tanks. Not sure why this was being done after all these months. Our Dive masters the first week were Ruud and Denise. As always, they gave detailed briefings and were exceptional in pointing out the beautiful creatures you can find under water. They made our first week of diving lots of fun and safe and it's nice to see Dive masters that are still enthusiastic about diving. The second week our crew was ET and Luis, ET proved to be a seahorse whisperer. We all know they are not easy to spot.... Again, another great week of diving. When we left Divi Flamingo they had started to work on dismantling the old dock. Maybe some later visitors can give an update on the status as it progresses.
After almost 20 years of excellent accommodations and diving, things are going downhill

Issues with the room - broken handheld piece in the shower; safe not working; broken sliding glass doors. Was told after I arrived that the hotel room I was assured I’d have wasn’t available. Some aspects of the dive operations were a big disappointment. After almost 20 years of excellent dives with excellent dive masters, one of the newer dive masters (Carlos) negatively affected our experience in a very significant way. He was late everyday leaving his partner dive master and, sometimes, the customers, to do his job. Completely disrespectful and inconsiderate. Not to mention, I’ve heard other customers talk about his disrespectful treatment of other dive masters and customers - racist, condescending, inappropriate remarks and just general mistreatment. I hope Divi Flamingo rectifies this situation before it loses their other, much more deserving, experienced, respectful dive masters and before customers start going elsewhere on the Island for their diving.
Paradise both above and below sea level!

This was our second trip to the Divi in BonAire! We travel with Rob Harris & Island Hoppers and it’s always an amazing trip. The management staff is so welcoming and they are easily accessible at all times. The resort is beautiful. The rooms were spacious and clean. The food is wonderful! Darinka made our breakfast for us every day at Divi and she is a true gem! The diving is why we come and it is absolutely phenomenal every time. Ruud & Denise, our weeks dive masters, go above and beyond and they make each and every dive awesome! We are looking forward to the new dive dock being put in place soon and hopefully will be ready when we plan to return in April 2024! We would highly recommend the Divi to any diver coming to BonAire!
Diving on the Sea Coral and two of the best dive masters

I was able to do three superb dives with two of the most capable, knowledgeable, veteran Dive Masters on Bonaire. Denise and Ruud on the good ship Sea Coral. The boat was clean, safe and comfortable and the vibe was upbeat. We left the dock right on time. A stickler about safety, Denise has a very easygoing style and there is an almost endless supply of smiles as she gives the detailed dive briefing. In the water she has the ability to see and point out some of the amazing sea life to be found. Ruud, the quiet man with a mischievous mind is super at keeping newer divers at ease and veteran divers interested. Together, they make a great team and are a real asset to the Divi dive team.
