Before we went, the reviews we looked at made us feel a little anxious, but having spent 2 weeks there, we all had a great time. We are from UK, 2 x adults and 2 x 10yr olds. We stayed in a standard room. They are pretty basic but did the job. The mini bar in room is restocked daily - 2 Modelos (lager) 1 x Pepsi/diet, sprite, Fanta orange equivalent and 1 x bottle of water per person. They had small iron and ironing board. I'd take a travel washing line with me if went again, as you cant hang clothes from the balcony. Also take some clothes wash, to wash clothes in sink, in a bottle, as the hotel laundry is expensive. Remember you are in mexico for the next bit, it's not going to be the same food you get in UK, so don't expect it!! The buffet was perfectly fine. Breakfast has plenty of fruit and cereal. You can get fried eggs and omelette to order , but there are scrambled eggs, sausages etc from main buffet. There are cold meats and cheeses, all sorts of bread and fruit juices. There are traditional Mexican dishes of course, tortillas, beans. Lunch was again fine, hot chicken, pork, fish, with vegetables, rice etc there are sandwiches made up (make your own if necessary) pasta, chips every other day (snack bar has them every day) Evening meals varied themes daily- mexican, fish, etc. Again, remember, buffet food for 2 weeks will get 'samey' wherever you go! The a la carte restaurant were all good. There is a fish one, bbq grill type one, mexican, and Italian. (Also a French but for adults only) You have to book the fish and bbq grill via a QR code you get on arrival. The rest just turn up for. You book from 0800, we had no issues booking at that time, if you book post 0830, may miss a slot or get a really early/late one. We ate in one of these 7 nights out of 14 through choice, not because couldn't get in. There is bar by pool, and one in lobby. All serve branded spirits and modelo beer, with normal soft drinks. They do a selection of go to cocktails or order what you like. Snack bar by pool also, serves burgers, hot dogs, chips, tortilla crisps, salad, chicken nuggets. There is a swim up, adults only pool also. Entertainment team tried so hard and were generally funny and good. The shows are a bit of fun - don't expect West End! Pool games and stretching, aqua fit were good. Could probably do with a bit more for my kids age range...... they cater for younger with separate pool but as they grow up and get too 'cool' for kids pools, they need something else! The air con in rooms is fine, often very cold. The restaurants are all lovely and cool - lobby can get warn and humid but again, it's mexico do what do you expect!! Sea is quite choppy all the time, small sandy beaches (used to be wider but recent hurricanes changed it all) but lovely to walk up. Get the Uber App for travelling around. These Taxis are far cheaper and although there are some political issues between private hire /Uber (much like UK) We used them lots and had no issues. We also used buses a lot. They are $20mx ($1us) per person. The hotel zone is marked every 500mts and the marker forms part of address. Example, Crown Paradise is 18.5km marker. You can get bus to marker 1km for same price. Then pay again to come back. As example, The boat trips harbour to Isle Mujares is marker 6km. You just stick arm up to get a bus and they stop!! We did trips to Xcaret (expensive but a great day out) Isle Mujares - catamaran trip to island. Ventura Park- just up the road via Uber. Great water park, with Go Ape type activities, and other stuff. Things I'd do if went again: Take more Mexican $ (pesos) Instead of all US $. You get better value with pesos as dollar exchange rates vary in shops etc. Take more clothes wash and wash line. Use the local supermarkets more than hotel shops. They are short Uber ride/bus for best supermarkets (in main old town). To summarise, we had a great 2 weeks there. Staff were all very friendly, whether you tipped or not. Doesn't have to be loads if tipping, $1us/$20mx seemed perfectly fine.
