Pretty but it’s a scam

tracysV5966VO on Jan 26, 2023

The place is pretty. They have very aggressive salespeople trying to sell you memberships for exclusive benefits, like going first in line at the cafeteria, and sitting in a more secluded beach spot. This cost me $6,500 in 2018 for 10 years (plus an annual $200/ year). They don’t tell you that unless you use their specific Exclusive Traveler’s Club site you can’t get the benefits of membership, the biggest one being that the salespeople leave you alone. We booked through the resort’s website (the resort owned and run by the club), and we can’t get the nicer wristbands that tell the rude sales people to leave us alone. Food is fine, nothing special. There are too many rules about where you can go eat and when, and if you miss the cafeteria cut off time there is no option other than to go hungry until it opens again. And no one tells you this when you arrive. You have to search their specific infographics to figure out when and where things are, and twice we had issues with the door openers not working.

Just returned from two weeks

jimmieddd (British Columbia, Canada) on Jan 26, 2023

The staff is amazing...always staying hello to you as you walk around the resort, but other guests just ignore each other. As Canadians, we are used to greeting one another, but with this European based resort with 95% from Italy and France, you will not be able to communicate with them. They are very loud and not friendly and the pool activity personnel speak French only and the music there is so loud, one has to move to the beach and try to find a vacant chair..Good luck on finding a chair around the beach or pool after 10 am..will not find one as towels are left by guests and they just leave them there. Some guests even have saved chairs on the pool as well as the beach. Smoking ban is in effect but that does not detour guests from smoking as management simply ignores them. Now for the positives. Food is great. Lots of walking and the canopy leading to the pool/beach is a nice long walk and one feels like they are in a jungle. The 2 or 3 storey buildings which accommodate the guests are hidden amongst the jungle. There are hundreds of coatis in the resort, in the lobby, pool area, beach and the walkway to the pool. They are constantly looking for your food as they will steal it if you leave it on a table. Do no feed them and they can be aggressive. The food trucks on the right as you approach the pool has great food which are open from approx. 11 am to about 4 pm...hamburgers, tacos, fries, chicken wings...just be careful with your food around this area as the coatis will try to steal your food. So many of them there. There are two nice greenhouses on the right as you approach the front of the resort with butterflies and orchids. Tennis courts are not heavily used with tennis rackets provided. The freshly made fruit juice is hard to find...its on the left as you approach the beach past the pool. We went to a few a la carte restaurants and the food there as well as the buffet were very good, although we ate mostly at the buffets and they had a large variety of food and is very tasty...you will hot go hungry. You are not allowed to take food out of the buffet, but I have seen some taking food out in napkins especially guests who are checking out the next day in the morning hours before the buffet opens at 7 am. Lots of fruit, fresh juices, grill, eggs made the way you want. Remember to tip all personnel as they deserve it. If bringing pesos, as most of us Canadians do, bring small bills...20s, 50s and 100s for tips as they are hard to exchange at the resort although the bar tenders and bell hops can change a small amount. Most guests tip in US$ but prefer pesos. We took the USA transfer from the airport..$90 us$ return for the 30 minute drive as it is a van with only the two of us in it...saves time getting to the resort. There are several transfer companies but we found that this one provided great service and always sends e mails reminding you of the times they pick u up. We requested a pick up at 5 am for our 9 am flight to Vancouver and they arrived at 4:45 with an e mail two days before reminding us of our pickup. Great service. We took a 400 pesos taxi to the Cozumel ferry and took the 45 minute ferry and spent a few hours walking around the town. There are two ferry companies operating the service every hour on the hour alternating service. Live music is provided on board. When returning from Cozumel, do not get a taxi from the Vendors with taxi signs...instead go up to 10th ave or further and flag down a taxi...300 pesos or less to return to CPM. The best shopping is on 5th ave and 12th street area. Cerveza is around 60 pesos in Cozumel as well PDC. We bought some potato chips and other snacks at the 711 stores on 5th ave to take back to the resort as the shops at the resort dont always have a plentiful selection of treats. Bottles of liquor can be bought at the shop on the right side at the end before approaching the pool. Other shops offer clothing, sun lotions (very expensive) and other items. Would we return? Absolutely not. Music around pool too loud. Unfriendly Europeans and not too many Canadians or Americans to talk to. Lack of chairs due to chair huggers ignoring signs not to save chairs. It is impossible to find chairs after 10 am. Taxis are too expensive from the resort. Too many coatis trying to steal your food, even in the lobby.
