In the Sun at Sun Palace, Cancun

My wife and I spent a wonderful week at Sun Palace (SP). We monopolized the great Awe Spa and spent a lot of time at the pool. We played golf. We ate in flavorsome restaurants, indulging in great food and wine selections. It was a glorious, relaxing vacation. All the staff provided excellent service, and looked after all our needs. They made us feel special, and ensured we enjoyed our stay. We were assisted by Samuel Coronado in coordinating our schedule. Listed below is a summary of our experiences at the various facilities, and the great people who took care of us: There are four restaurants at SP. We enjoyed the varied menus of food from around the world: 1. La Trattoria – Upscale Italian Restaurant. We ate dinner here on two nights. The first night, our server Able assisted us making our dinner choices. Kevin, the Sommelier helped us pick the right wine to match our food choices. The Ossobuco melted in your mouth. The second night, Armando and Angel served us scrumptious dishes, and the Sommelier Kevin again picked out the wine for us. The manager, Monica and the hostess Ofelia helped us make other dinner reservations. 2. Thai – Asian Restaurant. – We ate dinner here on one night. Our server Ricardo and his assistant Lady helped us choose our different courses. The manager Edwardo made sure we had a wonderful evening. 3. Fuego – Steak and Sea Food Restaurant. We ate dinner here on three nights. On the first night, Santiago and Steven assisted us in selecting our menu for the evening and provided excellent service. The Chef, Orlando, came out to explain how the Beets Salad was prepared. On our second night, Gerardo provided excellent service. The manager Ingrid assisted in desert selections. On the third night Sandy and Samantha helped us enjoy scrumptious meals. 4. Aurora – Mexican Restaurant. We ate dinner here on one night. Marcos and Carlos provided stupendous service, while the Sommelier Kevin pick out a wonderful wine. Yurizi, the hostess, ensured we had a great evening. We also ate here for breakfasts and lunches. Our waiters for these meals, Eduardo, Renan, Jorge, and Jesus always provided excellent service and looked after our every need. 5. Riviera Maya- for Breakfast and Lunch. This restaurant is at the Moon Palace Golf Course. We ate there before and after a round of golf. The a-la-carte menu has many great choices. Carlos and Leonardo provided excellent service. 6. Room Service: We used Room Service every morning for breakfast. Every day our pre-ordered morning coffee/tea and pastries were delivered on time (and hot). We also frequently ordered a serving of eggs when we got up, which were delicious and delivered quickly. The Pools by the Auror Restaurant. – We spent time at these pools. Hector, Monica and Ricky, the Pool Concierge, made sure we had enough towels, and the right amount of sun and shade by the pool. Sara provided excellent waitress service. The Sweets and Coffee shop in the lobby had wonderful and tasteful selections. We played golf at the Moon Palace Golf Course. Luis, Ricardo, and Roe assisted us in getting our carts ready and stocked, and starting our rounds. The course was well groomed, and just a bit challenging. The Awe Spa at SP – we always look forward to the Spa treatments at Sun Palace. I had a relaxing Hot Stone Massage by Daisy, a delightful Deluxe Manicure and Pedi by Adriana, and a refreshing back and scalp massage by Monica. I also had a wonderful Aromatherapy massage by Valeria. I used the various spa facilities with help from the wonderful staff. My wife had a rejuvenating Hot Stone Massage by Monica Paulina and a Refreshing Facial and a leg massage by Paulina, and a back massage by Keyla. As normal, the Spa services and staff were wonderful, especially Alexandra. Our airport greeter Julio, our driver to the hotel Christian and the SP bellhop Eliezer helped us upon our arrival. Samuel helped us on our departure. Our housekeeper made sure our room was clean and neat each day. This was a wonderful, but short, weeks’ vacation, and we thank all the staff for their unending attention.

I’m going to review the sales pitch experience specifically.

I like sun palace. It was my second visit. It’s fun and suits my style of relaxed without too much intrusiveness. That said, I know there is always a temptation to want a little more than a visit will give. If you choose to join their “informational meeting,” yep - sales pitch. (off site - so you feel a little trapped) You will be subjected to *high pressure* sales tactics to join their club. It’s like a Costco membership (their words) with a year or two’s college tuition bill as a price tag. Just like in the old-school car dealerships “what can I do to get you to buy a membership today” practically fell out of their mouths. They’re wearing their nicest suits and dresses. We were just in shorts and flip flops. They won’t walk away to let you talk in private. They have the initial offer that smacks of sticker shock. They will make several significantly lower offers which brings the bill down to the price of a fairly new car. I think we were hit with 3-4 successive offers lower than the last after saying no. We even were hit with one last offer from a concierge while waiting for the cab to take us back to the resort. That last one more than anything has changed my view of the place. There are predatory sales tactics that live beneath the veneer of luxury here. If you’re tempted to buy a membership just do your research before you come and remember your financial power comes with the ability to say no or never engage in the first place.

Excellent Staff, Inconsistent Execution

We recently returned from another wonderful stay at Sun Palace as Diamond/Residence members. This resort continues to be one of our favorites thanks to its exceptional staff, beautiful setting, and consistently welcoming atmosphere. Rooms & Resort: The **standard rooms on the 8th floor are excellent. All rooms offer an ocean view—some more expansive than others—and face either the activity pool or the **quiet pool**, making it easy to choose the vibe you prefer. The resort was spotlessly clean throughout our stay, and the signature Palace fragrance is fantastic and instantly sets a relaxing, upscale tone. Dining & Entertainment Highlights: Trattoria remains a standout; our Diamond dinner was flawless, with special thanks to **Miriam, Abel, and the Chef**. Aurora’s new dinner menu is a great update, and **Juan** brings such genuine warmth and energy to the experience. Poolside ceviche is always a favorite, and the bar delivered excellent espresso martinis along with enjoyable live entertainment. The Rock of Ages show was outstanding and a must-see. Service That Truly Shines: The staff is the heart of this resort. **Guillermo** (Wine Sommelier), **Andres** (Minibar Concierge), **Dani and Ricky** (Pool Concierges), and **Jose Luis** (Diamond Concierge) all went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. Their professionalism and dedication are exactly why we continue to return. A Few Constructive Notes: While most dining experiences were excellent, Fuego felt inconsistent this visit and could benefit from closer attention to execution. Additionally, a few in-room details—such as towel quality, satellite TV reliability, and more flexibility with in-room beverage options for top-tier members—would further elevate the experience. Pool chair monitoring could also be handled in a more guest-friendly way to maintain the resort’s relaxed atmosphere. Final Thoughts: Sun Palace continues to deliver a beautiful, clean, and service-driven experience that keeps us coming back year after year. With a bit of fine-tuning in a few areas, this resort easily remains a 5-star choice, and we look forward to our next visit.

Sun Palace is home

I absolutely love Sun Palace. My husband and I have been 4 times. When deciding on our honeymoon we definitely on Sun Palace because we knew we would have no worries and we would feel at home. The food is always delicious. The service is top notch! Juan at the buffet and Fuego for breakfast is very attentive and kind. Manny who works in the lobby is always incredible. He made us feel amazing a welcoming us back for our honeymoon as soon as we walked into the lobby saying Mrs. & Mrs Harrington, welcome home!” Most likely we will be going back for our 1 year anniversary. Awesome Trip

Though we are not members we have been visiting Palace hotels for a number of years, the Sun Palace has been our go to for some time now. I don’t always write a review but this year’s experience was exceptional. We have worked with many concierges and Alex by far has been the most outstanding. He is warm, knowledgeable and his follow up is impressive. His check in’s were always so friendly, making sure we were enjoying our stay and never felt intrusive . When my husband lost an item he was informed by guest services and though the item seemed lost for a day for two he personally returned it to us. When he had a day off we’re were surprised that he even had a colleague check in with us. Vacation Planner Alejandro helped us schedule our activities including a wonderful KULKUCAN massage which was a terrific as he described. Thank you massues Virgina Fernando and Yadira .As always we looked forward to breakfast and lunch with Jesus in Aurora , despite having a bustling breakfast or lunch crowd his service was always friendly and we were never rushed. I have allergies, Jesus fulfilled requests for anything with kitchen by assuring me he would make style food was free from allergens. We were happy to see Daniel at the pool. The pool and gym staff are very hard word working , loved the yoga, and gym training with Jesus and water aerobics with the team. Our room was always spotless , one evening we found rose petals on our bed and flower , such a lovely touch, though work for housekeeping. We had the pleasure of having Wilfredo as our waiter two nights, excellent service. I was delighted to see Ladey at the Asian restaurant and though not assigned our table she spent a few pleasant minutes with us. Alfredo made our dinner at both the Italian and Mexican the restaurants special. Many thanks to Monica ( manger of Italian restaurant) for the special birthday treat. We enjoyed all of the restaurants except the smokehouse . Neither the brisket or the ribs were edible , the brisket looked very unappetizing as plated . We did appreciate the evening manager’s quick follow up with us, the salmon was very good . The Halloween party is lots of fun, the Day of the Dead celebration was a new format. We have been many many beautiful celebrations, this year’s allowed us to enjoy many delicious foods served in manner that allowed us to learn about the foods from the staff , the entertainment was great and the Catrina’s were beautiful. Looking forward to our visit!
