Great Experience

Emily A (Fifty Lakes, Minnesota) on Jan 18, 2025

What an amazing experience my husband and I had. First time in Cozumel and first time at a Iberostar. The food was fabulous. I had a medical emergency having Type 1 diabetes and the staff jumped right in and got me everything I needed( Thank you Alejandra). I was sent a bottle of Champagne because it was my birthday. They have a Tattoo artist right on site and I LOVE my tattoo. The rooms are a little smaller than we were expecting, but the bed was comfortable and we weren’t in our room other than to sleep

Grossly overrated - not worth half of what we paid - room was a DUMP!

LonelyCruiser (Houston, Texas) on Jan 18, 2025

We stayed for 7 nights and 8 days at Iberostar Cozumel in December 2024 through New Year’s. I booked a suite, which is not much of a suite – it’s a small room with a rustic looking futon that kind of folds into a bed and a separate bedroom and closet (one bathroom). The room was disgusting, and we paid $8k for it. I will state that we booked it late, so we had few options for a family friendly hotel; I relied on Trip Advisor to choose it – bad move. We left and went to another property when we checked out for an extra three days and had a far superior room at an all-inclusive hotel for a lot less money (the food was awesome too). So, what were the issues? First, the room was a DUMP. I will let you look at the pictures and judge for yourself. I am an in the casino/hotel business and cannot believe that we stayed in this room at the price point we paid. Our room needed to be gutted and renovated. And there was zero insulation between rooms, so we heard the young women who partied all night upstairs stomp around until about 2AM each day. My 11-year-old daughter complained incessantly about the noise from above. Next, the room’s advertised stocked mini bar was a joke. Each day, the maid would put one sparking water in it along with one coke, one sprite, one diet coke, and two beers. I called the front desk our first evening and asked for some extra sparkling waters and was told I would have to pay for those. Unbelievable. No snacks were offered at all. The restaurants were awful. The best one we found was the Asian cuisine. It was B-, but we made do. The breakfast buffet was the best meal of the day. We started going into town by the fourth day to eat. Now, the property itself is okay. I will state that it is maintained, and the staff is friendly. They really try to be hospitable and entertain the guests (there is a good rock and roll show they do at night). The few bars were also good, but I tipped handsomely to ensure we got attentive service. Note too, people show up on property from cruise ships, so some days it was really crowded at the one pool. BTW, you cannot swim after 6-7PM because the pool closes, which was also dumb (my daughter was crushed when we arrived the first day and went to the pool at 6:30PM and she was told to get out because it was closed). Also, the on-site hotel night manager less than helpful. At one point they left a note on our door saying they would be taking over our room the next day for 3-4 hours for routine AC maintenance. When I went to talk to the front desk about it, this person came out and pretended the staff was asking if they could enter (no, they were telling us – read it yourself in the photos). I told him they could do their maintenance two days later when we left. That was that – nobody came in the room. There is no way I would stay at this resort for $8K for a week. I would say it was worth about $3K for the week, and I am being generous (I would never go back). And do not forget, you can expect a timeshare pitch too – we avoided that repeatedly. Each time we tried to book an activity we were pressured. We started avoiding anyone at the front of the property. Oh yes, this place is a long ride from town too, so if you want to be in the city, this is a bad location. We are going back to Cozumel in March, but we are staying at another all-inclusive hotel with nice rooms and superior food at a far better price than this property (the hotel we found when we left Iberostar and booked an extra three days). Do yourself a favor and stay elsewhere. I wish I had listened to my spouse and raised enough hell to leave on the first day and demand a full refund. We were so disappointed with this hotel that IHG will never see a dollar from me when I travel.
